Two very different games, two very different eras. Both you must have played, surely? Who wins? You decide!

Anyone who voted for pong is either doing it because of the fact pong is the first major video game success (which is stupid), or to spite GTA IV (which is also stupid). I say this because there is no sane person born after 1960 that would honestly rather play a game where you hit a tiny white dot back and forth between two thin white lines for hours over a game where you get to drive over a realistic New York City landscape in any sort of car you could imagine, fire guns at whoever gets in your path, fly over the skyscrapers in helicopters... fuck man, you can do ANYTHING in GTA IV. Even the minigames in GTA IV (pool, bowling, darts, QWEBED) are more entertaining than Pong.

Not to mention that Niko Belic is one of the most interesting video game characters of all time. For the first time GTA is given a protaganist that would much rather be in a legitimate line of work, but unfortunately for him doing errands for gang lords seems to be the only work he can get. He deeply cares about his cousin and his friends, and sacrifices his life on a regular basis to try to help them. For the first time ever, the main character of a Grand Theft Auto game is sympathetic.

And above all else, the missions in this game are awesome. You have your heist mission (which blows the previous heist missions out of the water), a shoot out at a museum, chasing down a mob boss to an abandoned casino, and countless other epic missions that are some of the best missions in the entire series, if not entire genre.

I'm voting for the obvious choice here, GTA 4.

I know that Pong did pioneer in gaming, and maybe GTA IV wouldnt be here if Pong didnt bring gaming to the heights, well it started one of the largest industrys today!

But GTA IV has stood out against other games in its genre for a very long time, and still hasnt gotten stale. And the best part is that even the older versions of GTA are still enjoyable and very playable. GTA wins it.

I don't get it, what are people voting on? JGlass said, "Who would want to play Pong over GTA IV?" No one would, but is that really the criteria we should be using? Why the fuck even bother having Pong in the tournament? Why not take out everything pre-1995 because it's likely not even going to stand the test of time. The original zelda is a great game, but I wouldn't play it over something new today, it's apples to oranges, they come from different eras. If I played original Zelda with the context of today, I would think the game is fucking awful, but if I play it within the context of the mid 80's, then it's badass.

People cna vote on whatever they want to vote for. If you don't like it don't play along, but I'm not having bitching because Pong was beaten by the 35th top seed.

I actually get to vote in this tournament as I've played both of these. So let's get to it.

This really is a fantastic match-up. Possibly the most rudimentary video game in history vs. one of the most detailed and life-like games ever made.

If you were to judge them on their own terms, this would be a lot closer. However, because of extenuating circumstances (primarily my age), I can only call this by looking at them from the same point of view. And... GTA IV demolishes Pong in every conceivable way. I'm not big on video games, so you'll have to excuse me while I heap praise on what I consider the best game I've ever played.

The game itself, is beautiful. From the animation, the dialogue, the cut scenes, it's faultless. And then there is the gameplay. The remarkable gameplay. Everthing feels great. Everything feels real. From driving a car to jumping off a building. The story is superb and contains a nice variety of missions to accomplish. The game takes hours and hours to finish. And that's not taking into account the hours you can spend getting lost in the beautifully animated Liberty City. Something which I've done countless times.

GTA IV contains a vast, limitless landscape where you can do anything and be anyone as Niko Bellic. Pong is a couple of white rectangles and a square.
