2/12/10 Smackdown: Why did Batista waste so much time doing nothing in the segment?

this segment was BRILLIANT! he didnt need to say anything just by standing there saying nothin touting the crowd got him more heat than he would have got if he would have said anything

its a great idea. If he were to explain why and lashed out at cena, the fued would be built too fast. it is nice to keep the next step of the fued unpredictable and they did it with some serious heel heat. But I would agree that it took too much time but it was still a good segment

Batista came on in to the promo a generic heel. He came out looking like the biggest douche bag on earth i personally loved how he broke the mold of most promos. Now his fued with Cena will have a better build up that simple. Though he could of shortened it and still get the same messege across.

It was incredibly annoying, I thought that once he went back to the ring he was going to speak but I was wrong. The positive of this however is it keeps us wanting to know what he'll have to say next week if he does speak. Why did he attack Cena? Why did he walk out on the chance to become World Champ? Something he was obsessed with and is the reason why he turned on Rey. He got tremendous heel heat however over it which is always a plus for a heel.

If the point of the segment was to get Batista more over as a heel, Sid was right: Don't have him come on screen. It would have been best to just start his music about 6 times, and have him no show. Later in the program, they can show him walking out, bags in tow, with Matthews giving chase, trying to find out what happened, with Batista maintaining his silence.

He pissed me off by wasting all that time, and I changed the channel about 5 times. What was the point of randomly sitting on the turnbuckle for 5 seconds? What was the point of having a segment where he "says nothing", but yells at the fans "You want an explanation?".

It was stupid. I don't hate Batista more for it, I hate WWE more.

except that was done so many times before with people. WWE shows a little bit of originality, and you are actually complaining?

I personally thought it drug on about 5 minutes too long. BUT, that said, i think it was a great spot.

Batista requests time to "explain" himself. He comes out, chases Josh out of the ring and then stands there. No words, no speech, certainly no explanation. He's saying to EVERYONE that he doesn't have to explain himself. You can kiss his ass, go to hell, etc., but he owes you nothing. He's portraying a self-assured, self-important, better-than-you Heel.

Why'd he bother? To waste YOUR time looking at him, that's why. He's important enough, in his own mind, that he can do that to you. You'll pay good money to simply SEE him. That's pure arrogance and narcissism if you ask me.

Why'd he go back and forth with that Cena fan? Because he can. Apparently that guy looked at him wrong. That's in his character. Ever read his book? I'm going to paraphrase...

"I'm not looking for a fight. I'm a big guy. Get in my face and I'll kick your ass, but otherwise we're not going to have a problem".

It's all in character. If it pisses you off that he wasted your time, then he accomplished EXACTLY what he set out to do. How many heels have made promises over the years, just to do the exact opposite to elicit a fan reaction? That's all Batista truly did with this segment.

I say rock on Batista....keep pissing off EVERYONE you can.

Now I'm sure many were annoyed by Batista's actions the other week. However, I thought it was funny as hell. Most wrestlers could not get away with something like that. But it served it's purpose, it drew alot of heat from the crowd. It's common pratice for a heel to go out insult the fans, the city, and the face for feud build up. It get's to the point where you know what's going to happen. It was no doubt the night Batista was the monster heel in this feud. What I mean by that is Cena usually gets a mixed reaction no matter who he's facing . Batista did almost nothing and drew massive heat in that segment. Sometimes, silence goes a long way.

This segment annoyed me to no end because I found it to be a second-rate attempt to duplicate a GREAT moment from the past. Now I'm surprised that nobody mentioned this.....remember a few years back when Eddie Guerrero delivered a brain buster to Rey Mysterio outside the ring on the steel steps to close Smackdown? I forget if that was his heel turn or if he had turned the week prior, but he came out the next week on Smackdown to "explain his actions" and pulled off what Batista tried to do MASTERFULLY!!! Ohhh, this was a great, great Eddie Guerrero moment of all time. RIP Eddie we miss you!!!!

But on a side note, seeing how Batista has been booked since then, with what he was able to do this past week on Raw, I totally forgive him. I think his heel turn is going great!

I must say I feel the segment dragged and in a world where promos are king I feel the time could have been better utilized. But if it had run for 5 minutes instead of 10...then maybe I could have forgiven it for what it was.

I just think it was way too freaking long

Just My Opinion.
