I read in the rules "don't respond directly to someone else's RP unless given permission." I believe I understand that as a "he said a lot of things about you in his RP (like you smell or something) so don't directly counter his RP with a rebuttal (like the only reason I smell is because your shit ass won't leave me alone)." Correct?
Yeah, replying to your opponent's RP has become a big "no no" in WZCW. Quite rightly to. It reeks of desperation and in fact is technically stealing the ideas of your opponent to fill out your RP. On top of that, it can also demonstrate a lack of time-keeping on your part.
I have however, with some of the RPs I've read, am somewhat lost on... what exactly they have to do with the match. I won't point out anyone but I was confused, quite literally, as to how a certain scene really had any actual link to how to win a match.
This is a more contentious issue. You should try to approach your opponent in your RP but there are times when character development is far more important - my RP this round just about mentions the names of my prospective opponents, focusing heavily on my character's reaction to his becoming champion, his relationship with his long-term tag team partner and potential problems going forward with the new #1 Contender and the new owner of WZCW.
And really, there are only so many ways you can tell an opponent how you are going to beat them - having been on Creative, I know that having to read 30+ RPs that all follow the same method is just horrifyingly boring.
As a new character, I think you should be focusing more on establishing and developing your character and only in the course of doing that, tie in your opponent without shoehorning them in.
Really, you should almost not be worrying all that much about winning.
I'm also somewhat fuzzy, maybe I didn't catch it, on how the storylines go. Do the mods/creative team sit down and talk with the talent about the direction they'd like to go in and how it could be accomplished, or do you just go "here, you're facing this guy... make something up"?
Creative are responsible for booking of your character based on how they see it going forward. Once you have established your character and had a few matches, they might be able to plug you into a short feud and move on from there. You certainly should not be expecting an extended feud right off the bat.
That said, they are more than willing to listen to good ideas from ordinary members.
