WZCW Discussion Thread

Slightly late, but I disagree with this sentiment almost entirely.

In a way I used to share your emotion, except my distaste always got turned towards the people running the more ridiculous characters - though for almost exactly the same reason.

Someone trying to tell a believable story grounded in reality has what they are trying to do undermined just as much (actually considerably more - but whatever) by having to incorporate someone like S.H.I.T as S.H.I.T might by having to compete against somebody operating exclusively in the real world.
It's the same when I had to write roleplays against Celeste Crimson - I was trying to write a believable real world character, and in the real world decent grown men do not kick the ever loving shit out of women - so every match any of my characters ever completes in against her instantly becomes all about explaining away that discrepancy with reality. (my general recourse when I didn't want to do this was to just ignore me opponent all together, but for some reason you tend to get punished for doing that).

Of course the solution to this is to either ban all the women, robots, aliens and whatever the fuck else is competing these days - or to force everyone to operate in some inconsistent parallel dimension where realistic drama is impossible. Either way I think the fed ends up poorer for it.

Some opponents and some writing styles are going to clash with your character, I think that's just something everyone has to live with. Drama is good, but you're going to have to devote time to explaining away the idiosyncrasies of the wrestling business - it's not everyone else's responsibility to line up with your story. Similarly if you want to take a ridiculous concept and play it straight then more power to you, but it's not at all fair to expect everyone else to play it straight as well.

I don't necessarily disagree with this; I think there's a line between serious character, and breaking kayfabe, and I felt Dave's RP did that. And in a fed where kayfabe seems important to the success of just about every character, mine included, I can't see myself working with that

As Barbosa said, traditionally, anyone who does well enough in a contract battle royale is welcomed into the fed regardless of whether they win or not.

Ahh, so like a version of Gut Check that works?

Basically. When we did them back in the day it was really "Part 2" of your application, because sample RPs are weird and it's really hard to figure out what you're doing there. Given an opponent / opponents, you get a way better chance to produce a representative RP.

The fed's gotten away from doing them for the most part but we had the perfect opportunity to do a return this round.

They also used to be house show matches, which means we didn't write them. I'm sort of glad we're writing the match now, though. We don't do a lot of battle royales so it'll be fun for someone to write.

I can see where people can have problems with identifying where the line is regarding WZCW's kayfabe.

There are characters here where it is clear that there is a person behind the gimmick - Hunter Kravinoff was really a man called Andrew Morgan. Blade is really called Ian Lynch - but on the other side we have characters like Barbosa and SHIT who do not have that same sort of origin so that when I am writing them, I see Barbosa as exactly what his gimmick is - a man with a dangerous split personality and I see SHIT as a man who thinks he is a robot. There is no 'actor' behind Barbosa and there is no man playing a man who thinks he is a robot.

They are the characters.

I think one of the first matches I wrote was a Contract Battle Royale. If I recall correctly, I had Wasabi Toyota belly-to-belly someone over the top and out of teh match. I don't think he won though.

Gordito won. Holmes was in that match as well.

As far as breaking kayfabe discussion goes you have to read the Big Dave RP about Andrew Morgan

I'm enjoying that line with analyst Ty Burna right now. For my KC preview it was all non kayfabe kayfabe Ty except when reviewing Titus/KO when I had Ty jump into character suddenly. I like Ty being an analyst right now because he can still be involved and adds a bit more humanity to him. When/if I brought him back it'd be easy for him to start in his human role which would add a new dynamic to the character.

You should talk to Creative about Ty Burna being a guest commentator on a show. In fact, he should've been a guest commentator for WZ Weekend.

I think if I remember correctly (I haven't got a PM from Harthan yet if you're wondering) I threw Phoenix a bone because before I voted it was already decided he was losing and Barbosa was winning so I tried to make him feel better by voting for him.

I'm kind of afraid of what I did. That was my first PPV on Creative.
