Anyway, I'd just like to put out there that at the end of the day we all have different opinions and feelings on what makes a good RP, or at least what we feel is the best way to put it together. Not everyone's going to be on the same page, and it would be boring if we were. This applies not only to agree with Gelgarin that you shouldn't just use color because everyone else is, but also to agree with Kermit that if everything was black and white and formatted in the same way reading them all would feel like a chore.

There is no way around it other than to say it out aloud: colour is necessary in every single RP produced because it looks pretty. If your RP doesn't have any pizazz, why are you even bothering writing an RP at all? This is why I never read books because the writers are too stupid to include some pretty colours.

Gelgarin makes some excellent points. I've used colour in all of my RPs save for the most recent one (which was because I wanted it to resemble a magazine article), and I've never questioned why. I used it because everyone else does - which is stupid.
Use colour if you feel it adds to your RP. If it doesn't, then why bother? If you do, however, make sure it looks good. There's nothing worse than clashing colours in an RP.

Now, see, Gelgarin talks a lot about not using color and having left-aligned text. I use color and center align my RPs because I legitimately find it easier to read that way. He doesn't seem to realize that reading a book is VERY, VERY different from reading on a computer screen. I read a ton of books, but really have trouble processing large black blocks of text on a forum like this.
But that's just me.

I know, I'm in the clear in that case, but on the other hand he might view my use of color as superfluous.
Reading a book is different to reading on a computer screen? Why did nobody ever tell me this?
Legitimate question: Why don't you centralise all the rest of your posts as well? Surely the exact same logic would apply there.
Or alternately: rubbish. 95% of everything published for an on screen medium is formatted in exactly the same way. You might not like it, but almost every newspaper, information depository, repository for fiction or other website that is going to be publishing large blocks of text does so with a mono-colour font aligned down the left margin. You might legitimately prefer text centralised (although there is scientific reasoning behind why most people don't) and might find every other post anyone makes anywhere on this or any other forum to be a tedium to read, but you're in the definite minority. Books produced for Kindle, which are now beginning to outsell their paper based counterparts, are formatted exactly as they would be when produced for paper - with the text aligned with the left side of the page. Being on a screen does not make a HUGE HUGE difference.
There is actually some science behind aligning text with the margin of the page. When reading text the eye functions much like an old fashioned type writer. It starts focused on the beginning of a line and works its way across the page. When it gets to the end of the line it resets at the start of the next one. If text is aligned with the side of the page then the eye is resetting to the same point at the end of every line, whereas with centralised text the eye is constantly having to scan back and forth because no two lines start in the same place. This leads to a more straining reading experience. I don't know if you've ever tried centralising text on a typewriter, but it's a fucking nightmare. As a matter of fact (although I can't back this assertion up) I would imagine that the additional strain of centralised text would typically be exacerbated when reading off of a screen, since the eyes are generally not keen on that to begin with.
My principle is sound. How much anybody gives a shit is going to vary from person to person, but when people ask me for advice they are shockingly going to hear on the subject that I give a moderately large shit about.
So yeah; I do recognise that this stuff goes on a screen, I just don't recognise why that makes very much difference.
If the house show doesn't have a creative member writing it, I would like to try my hand at it if of course creative doesn't mind?
House Shows don't normally get written because it's more a test of putting people in the field of writing RPs. House shows are the stuff that doesn't add to wins and losses and seeing the match is meaningless when a victory doesn't mean the loser doesn't get in.
I also advise not publicly announcing an intention to writing a match when you should PM Ty first. It's easier for him to nip it in the bud than shoot you down public and make both of you look bad. Not to mention there's a number of people who have been in the fed longer who have wanted to write a match and have not gone over Creative's head to do it.
That's just my two cents.
The Kindle's screen and computer screens are different. The Kindle isn't blacklit and shiny. It uses totally different technology from a computer screen in order to simulate the printed page. I should know; the Kindle is how I read most books nowadays. The computer screen doesn't simulate a printed page, it's a computer screen.

Yeah, I find those pretty hard to read as well unless they consist of short paragraphs. I despise writing research papers, because I can never concentrate on the articles. I told you, it's not the writing but the screen. Color or large font helps me a lot, but even just large font is iffy.
Ah yes the dark days of WZCW, at least from when I debuted in WZCW as I bet there were plenty of darker days prior. Meltdown 23 quick results and it's one sentence or two description of matches. We spoil you guys now

I actually almost quit WZCW due to the poor quality of matches written during the next few shows, particularily my matches. Fortunatly the match writing improved and I stayed on. The rest in history.

I do remember. A tag match sticks in the mind for me where Anoki's entire contribution was to give somebody an arm drag, and a few other competitors never even entered the ring. Things are a lot better these days.
I was actually referring to when I launched Black Dragon though. I had to do quite a few dark matches and contract battle royals and whatnot, and I was really quite disappointed not to be given any information on what happened. Heck, the match where Dragon, Masters and Ale earned their contracts was a battle royal that nobody was prepared to tell us who won. Quite an embuggerance when you're trying to build a written continuity.
That was one of the main reasons why I reinvented my character after my first RP in the battle royale where Saboteur, Scumm, and Skinner won contracts (Three S's and no R's? Conspiracy!) I didn't want to bang my head against the wall writing how upset my character was from losing a match that never really happened. I would have loved being able to continue on off the surprise battle royale Dragon won at Apocalypse.
We dont write contract matches because it's draining writing 2-3 matches a show for MD & AS. That will continue because while we appreciate the offer, contract matches are often irrelevant and unimportant. It is just a case of seeing who can write, seeing where everybody's capabilities are at. Everyone is different,
My memory is Gelg's recent contract match in particular is that we had ten or twelve new apps, a pretty massive influx by our standards. Writing a battle royal is much tougher than single or multi man matches. It's not like the old days where they had to ask for volunteers to write MD & AS matches. Plus when we did offer match and show writing to the masses, it was the All Stars show and I still had to drag out as much as help as possible.
We ask for your thoughts on everything else. The guys can vouch for us that we consider every idea that we have PM'd to us. And even then, it doesn't always seem enough.

Ah, I remember my "dark match" debut. It was a Battle Royal at Redemption last year, I believe. I heard back from Creative later on that it was close between myself and some other dude, and had they known other dude was gonna disappear they'd have given it to me. I remember wishing I had match to read, but I've never really thought of it since then. It just wasn't important.
I think I've been a part of a conversation like this before. Dark Matches are tryouts. They are like tests. It's for Creative to feel out where you're at, and to see if you can cut the mustard. I can see an argument for have Contract Matches written up; I know mine was and it is still one of my favorites. But Dark Matches don't need that.
Also, for a real world comparison, note how most modern day dark matches are rather non-canonical in nature. They don't get talked about, they don't mean anything, and they aren't important (even when it's a Tag Team Title match at Wrestlemania!). Why should they be?
