Losing Cool

UNCASVILLE, Connecticut – With their Money in the Bank match looming, Christian did his best to get under the skin of World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton all night long. By the end of the main event, The Viper finally snapped.

Kane def. World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton by Disqualification in a Non-Title Match
A night of Christian’s taunting of Randy Orton culminated during the main event between Kane and Orton. When Christian came to ringside, Kane used the distraction to clothesline Orton out of the ring. The momentum also sent Kane careening onto the arena floor. But while Kane smartly climbed back into the ring, Orton decided to pursue Christian, which resulted in him getting doused with water by Christian and counted out of the bout. That’s when the chaos began. As a furious Orton chased Christian around and into the ring, The Viper found himself the victim of a vicious 2-on-1 assault at the hands of both Kane and Christian. But when Kane turned his attention to Christian, The Viper blasted Kane with an RKO. Then just seconds after, Christian charged and speared Orton. After pummeling Orton with blows, Christian armed himself with a steel chair. But before Christian could use the chair, Orton kicked Christian in the gut and wrested control of the chair. Then, seething with anger, Orton erupted and unloaded on Kane with multiple, brutal chair shots while Christian looked on. After the display, can Orton possibly contain his temper and avoid being disqualified and losing his title at Money in the Bank? What surprises does Christian have left in store for Orton? The fate of the World Title will be determined this Sunday.

Justin Gabriel def. Heath Slater
Together, Justin Gabriel and Health Slater were three-time WWE Tag Team Champions. And they worked together from the beginning of The Nexus to the end of The Corre. But that’s all in the past, and Slater made that clear with his words before the match against his former ally. But in the end it was Gabriel who reigned supreme in a competitive bout, defeating Slater with an impressive 450 Splash.

Divas Champion Kelly Kelly def. Rosa Mendes
After driving Rosa Mendes' head to the canvas, Kelly Kelly picked up the win. At Money in the Bank, Kelly Kelly puts her title on the line against Brie Bella.

Big Show and Mark Henry faced off
With Big Show and Mark Henry prepared to face off, there was potential for chaos … and SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long knew it. If there was any physicality between the two, Long would cancel their Money in the Bank match. As both behemoths traded emotional words, Big Show claimed his actions against Henry as of late have actually done him a favor by lighting a fire within him. Henry’s take was that being stronger and meaner is better than being big. Who will prevail when the two finally collide in the ring at Money in the Bank?

Sin Cara def. Sheamus
In their first match ever, Sin Cara stunned Sheamus by countering the Celtic Cross and rolling him up for a pinfall victory. With Sheamus frustrated by the loss, Wade Barrett leapt up from the announce table to gain a measure of retribution for Sheamus smashing him with a steel chair last week. After dropping Sheamus with a Brogue Kick, Barrett finished him off with Wasteland.

Cody Rhodes def. Daniel Bryan
With no love lost between the two, Cody Rhodes and Daniel Bryan slugged it out in an evenly matched bout. While battling in the corner, Rhodes tossed Bryan to the side, causing him to land precariously with the top rope between his legs. Rhodes capitalized on the vulnerable position and dropped Bryan from the ropes with a well-targeted kick to the head, leading to a pinfall victory.

Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson def. Ted DiBiase
With Cody Rhodes preparing for his match with Bryan, Ted DiBiase was on his own against big Ezekiel Jackson. Despite an impressive effort from DiBiase, he was forced to submit to Jackson’s punishing backbreaker. After the match, Rhodes warned DiBiase about the paper bag implications of losing another match in the future.

Christian taunted World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton
What started with Christian taunting Randy Orton with a picture of him with the World Title escalated as the night progressed. First, he vowed to find out who vandalized Randy Orton’s tour bus. Then, he lost a bunch of Orton’s money at the roulette wheel. Finally, he offered his thoughts on Orton in That’s What I Am.

Christian def. Randy Orton (New World Heavyweight Champion)

If at first you don’t succeed, hire a legal team … and fight dirty. That’s exactly what Christian did to help him finally regain the World Heavyweight Championship from Randy Orton. During a tooth-and-nail battle that could have gone either way, Christian spit right in the face of the champion. The dastardly deed caused Orton to snap and deliver a blatant low blow to Christian. The move earned Orton an immediate disqualification. And, as per the special match stipulation put in place by Christian’s legal team, Orton lost his title. Afterward, The Viper launched a brutal assault on the new champion, first smashing him in the head with a TV monitor, then RKO-ing him onto the announce table. But that wasn’t enough for the furious WWE Apex Predator. As he walked away from the ring, he hesitated, then headed back to deliver one more vicious RKO to Christian onto the announce table for good measure. Christian’s victory in Chicago was the culmination of a long, twisted road. Although Christian captured his first World Championship in his 17-year career at Extreme Rules 2011, he lost it to Randy Orton just five days later. After that heart-breaking night, he mounted a relentless quest to regain the title. But the results were the same each time. At WWE Capitol Punishment and Over the Limit, Christian failed to dethrone Orton. How will the seething Viper respond to being spit in the face and having his title taken from him all because of a contract clause? Can Christian hold onto the World Title for more than five days this time?

Daniel Bryan won the SmackDown Money in the Bank Ladder Match

Eight of SmackDown’s most gifted Superstars entered The Windy City’s Allstate Arena tonight with aspirations of snagging the coveted Money in the Bank briefcase and claiming a guaranteed World Title Match contract good at any time, any place over the next year. They brutalized each other for the opportunity, driving steel into flesh and bone onto concrete, but, in the end, a tenacious Daniel Bryan was the man who walked away — just barely — with the future in the palm of his hands. Bryan’s journey to the top of the ladder was a harrowing one for the young Superstar. Plagued by monsters like Kane, rogues like Wade Barrett, Sheamus and Cody Rhodes and daredevils like Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater and Sin Cara, the submission specialist repeatedly came within a fingertip of snatching the elusive briefcase only to be smashed from the top of the ladder again and again. Still, no matter how many times he was knocked down, Bryan got up and kept on climbing. The former United States Champion wasn’t the only competitor who took his lumps during the evil encounter. The thrilling Sin Cara — pegged by many as a favorite to win the bout — was taken out of action early after being viciously powerbombed through a steel ladder by the aggressive Sheamus. The impact was so devastating, the masked marvel had to be stretchered away by EMTs. For all the bumps and bruises that were suffered in this bout, no competitor dished out more punishment than the vicious Kane. The most experienced Superstar in the match, The Big Red Monster grabbed the briefcase at last year’s Money in the Bank and cashed it in that very same night, beating Rey Mysterio to win the World Heavyweight Championship. That trademark dominance was on display tonight as Kane ran roughshod over the competition and nearly won the match again before being stopped by a determined Daniel Bryan. In fact, at different times throughout the contest, every Superstar looked to be inches away from victory. Former Corre allies Wade Barrett, Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater tried to recreate their broken trust in an attempt to dominant the competition, but their personal quests to win quickly deteriorated the alliance. The Celtic Warrior climbed as close to the briefcase as anyone, but the Irishman’s ascension came to a sudden end when Kane ruthlessly chokeslammed him onto a ladder. Brutality like this went on for nearly thirty minutes until Barrett, Rhodes and Bryan all found themselves jockeying for position on the top of a ladder. It was almost a disaster for all three Superstars, but the submission specialist somehow held on, knocking his bitter rival and the former Nexus leader off of the peak before grabbing the coveted Money in the Bank briefcase for himself. It was a huge moment for the young Superstar, but the bigger moment still awaits him. Can Daniel Bryan successfully “cash in” his contract like every other Money in the Bank winner has done before him? Or will he become the first man to come up short in his quest for World Title glory? Either way, the next 365 days will be very interesting for this would-be World Champion.

Mark Henry def. Big Show

The fury that has built within Mark Henry over recent weeks was fully unleashed in the Windy City at the expense of Big Show. There was no doubt that the WWE Universe would witness a colossal collision in Chi-Town, but no one could have predicted the two Earth-shattering World’s Strongest Slams, two big splashes and brutal attack after the match on Big Show’s ankle, with a steel chair, that would put down The World’s Largest Athlete at Money in the Bank. Though enough for the win, two devastating slams weren’t enough to satisfy The World Strongest Man’s rage. He continued to attack Big Show, targeting his ankle and causing enough damage to prevent the fallen giant from being able to stand up on his own, having to be taken out of the arena on a stretcher. The WWE Universe inside the Allstate Arena gripped their souvenir cups tight, knowing that when either enormous Superstar hit the other, it could very well result in shockwaves felt all over Chicago. Big Show was out for retribution after weeks of powerful attacks by Mark Henry, and hoped to find it in the form of delivering his mighty right hook to Henry’s jaw. The Second City witnessed Big Show and Mark Henry put enormous force into trying to take the other down and gain an upper hand throughout the match. As the behemoths traded thunderous blows and Henry attacked Big Show’s knee, one thing became abundantly clear: There would only be enough room in WWE for one of these massive Superstars when the dust settled. Clearly, SmackDown could not contain a reborn Mark Henry and he put everyone from Raw and the blue brand on notice, making Big Show his first target. However, The World’s Largest Athlete may have created his own problem as Henry’s recent path of destruction was ignited when Big Show attacked him before WWE Capitol Punishment. Henry sought revenge at the event in our nation’s capital by attacking The World’s Largest Athlete and putting him through a table with the World’s Strongest Slam, allowing Alberto Del Rio to pick up a victory. But The World’s Strongest Man wasn’t finished, at Raw Roulette he shocked the WWE Universe by sending Big Show crashing through a steel cage, a feat he followed weeks later by sacrificing his own body to push Big Show off the entrance area. Along the way, Henry left destruction, debris and fear in the WWE locker roon, including the production staff when he attacked a WWE audio technician on SmackDown when Big Show’s music was mysterious played during a match, costing him a World Title opportunity. Knowing that The World’s Strongest Man would do nearly anything to decimate him, and fully aware that Big Show may have created his predicament, the giant certainly came into Money in the Bank ready for the battle of his career. Big Show was confident he could suppress the fire that he started, but Henry proved to the WWE Universe that he is both the irresistible force and the immovable object. The World’s Strongest Man managed to overpower The World’s Largest Athlete and make his ultimate statement in his conquest of the 7-foot former World Champion.

YOU... SPIT... IN MY FACE...!

Kicking him to the groin was definitely a much better solution than an RKO.

Wasn't there a Cody Rhodes vs Ezekial Jackson IC title match scheduled tonight? Did I just imagine reading that somewhere?

I'll go with A. He needs Zeke to hand him his ass before he can leave.

Just started watching, so I'm behind by like 20 minutes. Figure I got to start watching Smackdown live, because I'm going to start doing the 411 Report for the show each week starting in like 2 weeks. I love me some Smackdown though, so let's see what's in for us tonight.

I remember when I opened my morning paper to see the headline...

"Disfigured Cody Rhodes"

It must have been a REALLY slow news day.
