WWE Council of War

Yea, I was confused by that. Why would they wait until AFTER the height of popularity in wrestling to go back to the stadium shows?

It was good timing. Wrestlemania 14 was too soon. Wrestlemania 15 too soon as well and with that poor card, wouldn't have sold out. Wrestlemania 16 was in Los Angeles, but I doubt they would have been able to sell out a big stadium. The timing just worked out well for 17.

No way for 15 unless either McMahon or Big Show was going to go against Austin. Most people didn't think the Rock was a credible opponent at the time, I tend to be one of them.

16 was certainly possible, but obviously the WWE didn't trust that show with the way it was booked. No Austin or no Taker had them worried big time.

Shocky is totally right. Mania XV would not have sold out in a big stadium. The Rock was still too fresh and not a mega-star yet.

I'm actually kind of wondering if WWE will have to go back to non-MSG arenas for Mania in the coming years.

The WWE has done a good job of marketing Wrestlemania as a huge event. No matter if the product slows down now, people will go because of the hype. Hell, cities are lining up and getting into semi-bidding wars to have the show come to their town.

I think WWE was doing well enough to sell out 15 and 16 a big stadiums. Too bad both were awful. I have both in my bottom three. 17 was obviously awesome but looks even better after coming off back to back busts.

15 and 16 aren't nearly as bad as you're making them out to be. 15 had the excellent Rock-Austin main event, while 16 had the underrated triangle ladder match, a damn good 2/3 falls triple threat with Benoit/Jericho/Angle, and a relatively fun main event. Both of them are way better than most of the early 'Manias, 1-5 especially.

Copyright issues with Nirvana maybe?

Dude, you need to check out the match listing for the best of nitro. Damn thing looks awesome beyond words.

I was disappointed only because most of the matches on there have already been released on other WWE DVDs before. There are something like only 2-3 new matches on the thing.

Why the fuck does everyone hate on WM 18 so much? This is a damn good show

I think if Hogan vs. The Rock was the last match on the show besides HHH/Jericho, not only would the quality of the show gone up heavily (since the crowd would have been much more into Jericho/HHH than they ended up being), but people who be more fond of the show as well.

But I agree... Wrestlemania 18 is damn underrated at this point. Great opener with RVD winning the IC title, Ric Flair vs. 'Taker doesn't get nearly the recognition it deserves, HHH vs. Jericho was actually pretty damn good even with the dead crowd, and of course Hogan vs. Rock was fucking awesome.

I dont get how the crowd is sooooo so dead? They popped hard for the entrances, reacted to the big spots...

it was a limb phsycology match. Which, unless it involves Bret hart, will always put a crowd to sleep. They were just as lively as could be for a match of that booking.

Booking the match that way to follow Rock Vs Hogan was the real downfall.

But yea, the only other Mania ive seen which didnt have an absolute shit match on it, besides 24 and 26, im actually VERY impressed. Maven Vs Goldust wasnt very good, but it wasnt horrible.

RVD vs Regal, Christian Vs DDP, Edge Vs Booker T, were all good matches

Kane vs Angle, Flair Vs Undertaker were both DAMN good, Flair vs Taker was crazy entertaining.

Damn fine show, truly.

Why the fuck do the Harvey Boyz NEVER win at wrestlemania? lulz

Like, honestly, there is something I am truly not getting???

Im gonna watch it again, but im well prepared to put it in the top 5.

24
26
19
17
18

I mean honestly....How can the same thing not be said about 19? the crowd really WAS fucking asleep for the ME on that one

I think the problem is that there was potential for the biggest main event of all time and it didn't happen. That always got on my nerves about that show.

Which should have zero bearing on judging the quality of the show or its deserved spot in history based upon that quality.

Its a damn fine wrestling show, with a fucking BADASS set, and great looking stadium. Top 5.

Blame Austin, not the show

This is true, but we had Austin vs. Hogan on the same show. You pay them whatever they ask for the match. Also the main event thing hurts it a lot.
