What's the point of stoppage time?

I believe it is the time the ref adds on at the end of the half to compensate for the stoppages during the half.

So all this time spent on attending to Howard will be put on to the end of the half.

Yeah an approximate addition of time to make up for the loss where they have to get the ball for a throw in, or a free kick etc.
