Wimbledon LD

It's pretty cool seeing the crowd so behind him. It's not a massive deal like it would have been if the football team had done well this summer, but there's some real hype around it. It's a really significant achievement because Murray is the best Brit in the game by a country mile.

Murray really seems to be putting him through the grinder. Anyone outside of the top three would not be able to keep up with Murray on this form.

For me the problem with tennis is that only the Worlds' top ten are really entertaining. The women don't do anything so it's only worth watching if the men are playing.

I have historically never given a shit, but hasn't the consensus traditionally been the other way around? That the men were nothing but serve and volley, and the woman's game was more entertaining?

I'll be honest, I'm not sure. At the moment, both are very power based though I can't imagine anyone in the womens game playing anything like this. Federer is a genius and Murray is one of the best ever not to win a major tournament.

The men's side has become much more entertaining since there have been a few different guys on top. Now that Federer and Nadal have been joined by Djokovic, it makes things much more interesting. And on the women's side, there just isn't the same caliber amongst the top players. Serena Williams has been great, but...meh.

Murray played very well those first 2 sets, but Roger was just grabbing the momentum. This rain delay is very fortunate for Murray.

I'm not really the patriotic type, but when it comes to Tennis I've always backed the Americans (not including the women; I can't stand Serena Williams), and since Roddick lost Wimbledon in 2009, he nor the sport has been the same for me with him getting eliminated so early in every Grand Slam tournament.

I was able to get into this though with Murray trying to overcome that hump of finally winning a Grand Slam. Plus it being a somewhat hometown affair only makes it that much more exciting.

If Murray was competing against anyone else, I'd be supporting him 100%. But I've always been a big Federer supporter and even I have to admit he won't have too many more opportunities at Slams. He likely wouldn't beat Nadal if he was still around. So I'm cheering for Federer, but won't be devastated if Murray wins.

Man, Murray losing that point has to be gut-wrenching. I know it's still early, but I don't see him coming back from that.

That 20 minute game was really fun to watch. Except I really had to go to the bathroom and didn't want to miss a point.

Murray is actually gaining my respect for this. I've always felt he was a bottler before and gave up too easily but he's really trying and standing firm.

Murray played his heart out and like a true champion, but nobody could have beaten Roger Federer today. What a magnificent athlete that dude is.

Murray should be disappointed, but there's no need for him to hang his head. There's no shame in losing to the best of all time, and representing yourself and your country extremely well in the process.

A few different guys on top is about right. There hasn't been a final of a grand slam between two players outside the current top four in two years. Longer since someone not named Federer, Nadal or Djockovic won one. In men's tennis there's the Top 3, Andy Murray and everyone else and that's uninteresting to me. In the Women's game there's no single dominant force that wins every damn thing... Except Serena, but I dislike her for exactly the same reason I dislike that nobody outside the top 4 is winning a male Slam other than the top 3 for the foreseeable future.

Had to miss the match an I'm pissed. I'm glad Fed won, with Rafa out I wouldn't have it any other way, but I'm mad I missed a great match and history being made. Roger is #1 again!!!!

Murray showed a lot of heart but he never really had a chance of beating Federer. I don't think he will ever win Wimbledon but after today i feel he will win one of the other slams.

Federer forced Murray to play on the very edge throughout the match. From the outset, Murray was having to serve hard and return as deep as he could, trying to hit the baseline with every shot in an attempt to cramp

Unfortunately, being able to do such a thing for 3-5 sets is very, very rare. Even then, it took two stupendous points from Federer to break and win the second set. From then on, everything that Murray tried, Roger had an answer for - his overhead smash was Sampras-esque, his slice backhand down the line was almost unplayable in the third set, and the way he is able to skip around a forcefully driven shot from the likes of Djokovic or Murray and play it with his devastating forehand with seemingly very little effort is just sensational. At times like today, when he was hitting the corners with it, he becomes virtually impossible to play against.

Lastly, I see a lot of English attempting to find some way of criticsing Murray for his performance on the court and off it today, even going as far as to say that he was trying to steal the spotlight from Federer by crying AFTER HE LOST THE BIGGEST GAME OF HIS LIFE. How fucking dare he!

Is it any wonder the British do not win that much when spewing that kind of garbage is the first thing that a loud portion of the public think about?
