Will Randy Orton surpass the Rock?

Randy Orton is an amazing wrestler, and has the ability to further stories in his matches, and is pretty damn good on the mic, but the rock, I think, Has one think that randy orton does not have. The Rock had amazing Star Quality. He was an actor, gave some of the best performance's I've ever seen in wrestling, and the simple fact of the matter is, at the peak of the rocks popularity, he was EVERYWHERE. He was in movies, making guest appearances on TV shows.

Now Randy Orton does have his movie project coming out soon, but this is a WWE film, which are generally not that good, and they don't do well at the box office. Can Randy Orton surpass the Rocks popularity, no. Equal it? Maybe, But only time will tell, and I see great things coming from Randy Orton in the near future.

okay Cena mark.. i gave a Rock video a few posts ago, now give one example of Orton cutting a more entertaining one? one that the crowd got behind just as much?

i think it's hard to compare the Rock and Orton when only comparing in terms of entertaining a crowd through a promo

my personal opinion is that the Rock does an awesome job on a mic and cutting promo's but Orton is a much better loyal company man and according to reports, does a great job mentoring his fellow newcomer wrestlers ..i also think Orton knows how to keep the electricity of a match very well and his ability to portray a character is amazing but the Rock is as well, i just don't think Rock does it better than Orton in that aspect

i don't think either one is surpassing each other overall -- they just surpass each other in different aspects, but overall are at that top-notch legendary level

Personally, I love Orton, but there is no way that he can ever reach the level of the Rock. The Rock could entertain like no one else could I would argue to say that when it comes to promos he is the greatest of all time. No one comes close to him. While Orton might be better in the ring, he's no where near the level of the Great one. Rock was the most charismatic man in WWF/E. Orton can't ever hope to have the crowd in the palm of his hand like Rocky did.

this thread is a joke, how can you compare the drone that is randy orton to the great one? the rock was NEVER boring, watchin orton is like watching paint dry. i swear randy orton has the most annoying fans. they complain about john cena being boring but root for the most predictable and monotonous guy on raw.

well cutting a great promo is part of being a Face of the company, and one of the big names when talked about as "one of the greats"

the second paragraph you talked about everything that goes on backstage. yeah orton may help out a lot, but that aint seen on camera, and this is all about the character. will Orton surpass the Rock. and the answer is no.

i respect your decision to get behind your favorite wrestler, but you have to be able to give some proof to your statement. when has Orton Electifyed the crowd better then Rock? or has his character been more over with the fans? now im not going to say the Rock was the most over either, Austin obviously gets that title, but without a shadow of a doubt Randy has never got the same reaction Rocky did, even on a bad night.

Orton will never be as big as The Rock. Probably a better Wrestler than The Rock but then again so was Chris Benoit, Owen Hart, Eddie Guerrero. It doesnt mean alot to be better in the ring.

Orton lacks charisma - 5 of the biggest names ever to enter the squared circle are: Hogan, Austin, Rock, Michaels, Flair. They could all cut an excellent promo! Orton cant IMO.

I like Orton, I love his work but he wont come close to surpassing the popularity and the legacy The Rock left behind!!!

My answer is yes. Not for mic skills by a long shot, but the Rock, with all he's done, wrestled for about 7 years in the WWE. Orton can, and possibly will surpass his greatness through longevity.


Even if he never gets a pop the way the Great One did, Even if he never has has the crowd chanting his name whenever he says so, Orton has the advantage of still being young. He's 30. To put that in perspective, Triple H is 41, Undertaker is 45. He has the "potential" to last another 10 to 15 (stretching it) years. If he plays his cards right, he can go down the path the Undertaker is going down right now(Does anyone here have the balls to say The Rock is STILL better than Taker).

He'll have to be in some amazing fueds, and he'll have to get better on the stick, but Orton has the potential to surpase the Rock.- Just by sticking around in the main event long enough.
