Why Did Soccer Never Catch On In America?

Because Americans suck at it. Simple as that. Football is awesome, real Football, not padded douchebags throwing a ball and stopping the game every ten seconds. Football isn't popular in the US because people in the US aren't very good at it.

Really? Wouldn't Chris Johnson be very good at soccer??

Americans play sports than actually utilize talents.

I don't think it's America bashing, more so the generally held view on Americans point of view of things they didn't create which IDR and TwistofRKO have kind of re-enforced (with TwistofRKO going so far as to red rep me with the words "Soccer blows. You swallow")

I only red-repped you because you did so to me. Grow up.

We aren't even disagreeing. Football is the best sport.

I stand by that football is the most amazing game in the world in that it does what religion politics music or anything else can't...it unites people in a common thread. North America apart (in general) you go to any country in the world and you'll always find someone that has a passion for football.

I AGREE 100%!!!! I knew you'd come around.

Football is the most amazing game. 4th quarter comebacks, game-winning drives, the Super Bowl.. its great.

2. Physicality - There is pleanty of physicality in football, but it is done in a more subtle way then American football (or rugby). You watch someone like Drogba getting into a jostle for control of the ball against a top defender like Vidic and tell me there isn't an intense physical battle going on there. Same goes with Midfielders and they way they have to harass people to win the ball. If you choose not to see the physical side of the sport, then you wont see it, but it is there, in abundance. Hell sometimes you get blokes like Roy Keane who introduce American Football style tackles as well, not nice to see, but you see them.

So you argue guys getting jacked up and run over with an argument about footsies?

Tiwist of RKO you do know that when harry talks about football he is really talking about soccer here in America because from your last post it didn't seem that way.

Also, Harry I'm talking about the people who post shit like: Americans blow at the only real sport so why would they like it.

I consider that bashing me as he is trying to say that where he lives is better because soccer (your football) is better. No, there are plenty of good soccer talents in America, they just don't get the exposure because of other sports.

God why does football have to be on in the winter. Show us big ten wrestling (folkstyle) or the Dominican Winter League (Baseball).

Americans play sports than actually utilize talents.

They do indeed, which is why they also have a football team (I refuse to call it soccer)

I only red-repped you because you did so to me. Grow up.

You do realise how childish your whole I only did it because you did it first idea is, right? I red repped you because you insulted something I'm passionate about, and all those that like it.

We aren't even disagreeing. Football is the best sport.

Just two very different forms of football. Or are you reverting to the childish way of thinking that "because he called soccer football he means the football I like"

I AGREE 100%!!!! I knew you'd come around.

Football is the most amazing game. 4th quarter comebacks, game-winning drives, the Super Bowl.. its great.

I really hope you're naively assuming I meant your version of football. Around the rest of the world soccer is called football.

And I actually enjoy the superbowl, all the glitz that came with it etc. It just feels, to me, that the actual football is kind of the advert breaks between all the showbiz glam.

So you argue guys getting jacked up and run over with an argument about footsies?

Again I suggest you try getting in a crunch tackle with someone, with only a little shin-pad to protect your leg. None of the cups, none of the padding, just a shin-pad. Then, after that, try saying it's a game of footsie.

You're either a wind-up merchant or the worst example of American that results in the majority of the world not liking your country. I really hope you never travel outside of the states as you'd probably explode that very few others see things from your narrow-mind and, with billions to back me up on this point of view, wrong opinion of football and the countries that have taken it to heart as.

Wow. Gotta love the amazing replies about how Soccer is "boring", "un-enertaining" and "talentless". Yet somehow nobody calls Chess and Poker boring. Or Bowling. How about that Golf? He just nailed that ball 100 feet away and into a hole. After staring at it for 2 and a half minutes. Truly great stuff there.

What I see is an incredible case of biase by our ever-glorified U.S. Americans. "Kings of the World". "Anime is shit!" Why? Because it's it's not from the U.S! "The Central-American Games are shit!" Why? Because the U.S. isn't in it.

Notice how all the predominat sports in the U.S. were sanctioned by the U.S.? Yet any sport that doesn't, is completely marred from U.S. society and otherwise, talked at as... You guessed it. "Shit". Martial Arts are shit. It ain't U.S. MMA is awesome. UFC is U.S. made. Cricket is shit. It's British. Baseball is awesome. It's from the US.

Just admit it. U.S. Americans don't accept Soccer for a very simple reason. It's not made in the U.S. Patriotism clearly and easily clouds people's judgment. Funny part is, I'm an American too.

Wow Riaku I think its a mix. I think that the uneducated that try to be patriotic are the ones that you are talking about that give people a bad name. Hell I watch cricket when its on here (maybe 2 a year).

Also, golf isn't as popular as you make it out to be and I know a lot of people who love anime and martial arts. So I think its really just the people whom you happen to be around.

WTF? are you talking about when your talking about the Pan-American games and its for all nations of the Americas which I believe the United States of America is part of. Hell I follow it when it happens (right before the olympics) because of my two favorite sports Wrestling (orginated in GREECE) and Baseball.

The main reasons are that American sports are based on A-Leauges mainly that smaller teams do not mix with the Franchises... Leauges have a fixed number of slots and each city has a team that covers a whole "nearest" area... The lower level teams at town level are not on the same radar... those larger teams don't play the little ones, or risk being demoted out of the NFL or NHL each season...

In England, we have the Premier Leauge as one entity, that has a seperate agreement with the football leauge that has 3 divisions. Below that is a Conference and a North and South division below them... teams are promoted and relegated based on their performance... It has happened as recently as Hull City 2 seasons ago, where a club gets successive promotions from the bottom to the top... Football is based on local rivalries, London has Chelsea v Fulham, Arsenal v Tottenham and West Ham... 5 teams in one city in the top flight, Manchester has 2 teams, Liverpool has 2 Teams, in the Midlands there is Aston Villa, Birmingham, West Brom and Wolves... Where are the local rivalries in the NFL, you might have New York v Boston... but they're hardly local rivalries... Football is very tribal, it really can be that the team you follow is the place you were born... whatever leauge they are in... thats the appeal... you might be a fan of the lowest team or the highest but each game really matters cos its YOUR team...

How people can get into the game and make a living from it also makes a difference...The US sports system is based on college, young prospects play in the college system before being drafted... in Football, contracts are signed as young as 8 in some cases... kids are trained from a young age to be footballers, my brother included... In theory, any kid with talent can start at their local, low level team and end up at a World Cup... With American sports, its often about being scouted, scolarships and which school you go to... Even those in the club system who don't get to the "major leauge" can still be professional footballers as the number of teams ensures a market for their talents... some of the "non-leauge" teams use part timers... with 96 "leauge teams" in the main 4 divisions it beats any American leauge for diversity...

These reasons are why Football doesn't take... it doesn't fit the traditions of American sport... even the MLS has drafts and the like... its a lot of effort to make for "a girls game" lol...

Wow Riaku I think its a mix. I think that the uneducated that try to be patriotic are the ones that you are talking about that give people a bad name. Hell I watch cricket when its on here (maybe 2 a year).
Precisely. Problem is that the more uneducated ones happen to be the outspoken ones as well.

Also, golf isn't as popular as you make it out to be and I know a lot of people who love anime and martial arts. So I think its really just the people whom you happen to be around.
Minority groups in my opinion. People who dislike it or look down on their fans are more predominant and more outspoken. As for Golf, it may not be that popular but it is a very highlighted sport. I can't a go a day without hearing about it.
WTF? are you talking about when your talking about the Pan-American games and its for all nations of the Americas which I believe the United States of America is part of. Hell I follow it when it happens (right before the olympics) because of my two favorite sports Wrestling (orginated in GREECE) and Baseball.
I apologize. Central American games is what I meant. People here seem too lazy to roll the official name in the news.

Nah, pretty sure it is associated with boring. Bad try.

Our economy proves this incorrect. We buy a bunch of cheap plastic made in other countries.

You're speaking more about culture now. Did China like the NBA until Yao came over?

Just admit it. U.S. Americans don't accept Soccer for a very simple reason. It's not made in the U.S. Patriotism clearly and easily clouds people's judgment. Funny part is, I'm an American too.

Stupid points lead to an incorrect conclusion. Funny how that works.

The topic has been addressed, and you failed to counter the real reasons, because had you done that you would have been rendered incapable of puking out this mess of a post.

Really? Wouldn't Chris Johnson be very good at soccer??

Americans play sports than actually utilize talents.

Just accept it, Americans pretend that anything they suck at is non-existent. You invented the NFL because you weren't any good at real football, you weren't even good at Rugby, so you created some half-assed sport that stops every few seconds, it's like an even worse version of Rugby League. Americans suck at Football so you don't play it because on a global scale you can't win.

Not any good at 'real football'? Pretty sure USA got just as far as England did in this past WC? And I think it's safe to say our best athletes DON'T play soccer. Lebron, Johnson, Kobe. All great athletes, but don't play soccer. Landon Donovan is probably our best soccer player, and he's not even close to the physical specimen of even the average NFL, NHL, NBA, or MLB player. The game is just too slow, with low action. When you can't even get a combined 20 shots in 90+ minutes, a shot every 5 minutes or so, that's slow.

Just accept it, Americans pretend that anything they suck at is non-existent. You invented the NFL because you weren't any good at real football, you weren't even good at Rugby, so you created some half-assed sport that stops every few seconds, it's like an even worse version of Rugby League. Whoa, hold on there that's not true. Only iggnorant people like RKO do that. I do not want to be put in that category hell he doesn't know soccer is football and football is soccer everywhere else.

Okay now thats out. Thats not very true. If I know I'm not good at something I just don't do it. I'll still watch it and appreciate it for the skill and athleticism involved. For example, bowling, I am the worst bowler in universe, yet when it comes on T.V. I'll sit down and watch it because I an appreciate that these are athletes who are very proficent in their sport.

It may just be that I'm one of the few Americans who just enjoy watching a sporting event no mattter what sport it is. Or I was just taught right when I was growing up. Your pick?

No, we invented football to use our entire skill-set. You know, throw, catch, hit, block, all in addition to only running and kicking.

I'd rather watch top shape athletes hit each other in 15 second intervals, than to watch 5'5 120 lbs fairies prance around the field for 3 hours, when they only manage 5 shots on goal.

Believe me, if our best athletes played we'd win it. We have our 20th string athletes in the world cup and they still win a few games. There's a reason we dominate in every other sport.

Nah, pretty sure it is associated with boring. Bad try.
Nah? You just proved my point.
Our economy proves this incorrect. We buy a bunch of cheap plastic made in other countries.
What the hell does the economy have to do with this? Marketing doesn't relate to one's taste in sports.

You're speaking more aout culture now. Did China like the NBA until Yao came over?
So Football isn't part of American culture. Yao Ming is just one guy.

Stupid points lead to an incorrect conclusion. Funny how that works.

What? That I'm not an ignorant self-centered prick like you? Who is incapable of accepting other people's point of view. That I'm mentally capable of accepting the fact that there are other cultures with other tastes? That even though I'm American I don't parade around proclaiming that the world centers around us? Gee forgive me for thinking about others and not being patriotic.
The topic has been addressed, and you failed to counter the real reasons, because had you done that you would have been rendered incapable of puking out this mess of a post.

The real reason. That Soccer is boring. Contact Steven Hawkins, your a fucking genious.

I say the same thing about foreplay. Get to the action now, dammit.

American's like american sports, and thats fine, I dont see what the big deal is, I find American Football to be kinda entertaining when they are actually playing and not standing around being given orders. It's basically rugby and I love rugby, but 2 hours long because of all the stoppages. Baseball and Basketball I find boring, but I dont feel the need to shout about it.

American's like sport with physicality, well, except for Baseball and Basketball, gotta wonder why actual rugby never caught on though, physical sport, no padding at all, large men kicking the shit out of each other, egg shaped ball. Someone once mentioned it was because it was a lack of tactics? Obviously never watched rugby then, lots of tactics, but we have the cheak and the nerve to let a game actually game flow and not constantly stop it to bring on our forward line and our defensive line yadda yadda yadda.

On the other hand, if you like American Football, then good for you, I think cricket is boring as fuck, but I get sick and tired of everybody telling me it is.

I can see why rest of World Football can be considered boring, 22 pansies running around a pitch kicking a ball, midfeild, to defence, to midfeild etc etc. . . On the other hand, to those who like it (like myself) awesome stuff. Lots of skill involved, I think Christiano Ronaldo's a cunt but the things he can do with a football are amazing.

If you want physicality from it then I am truly sorry, Leeds United havent played like that for years. 10 to 20 years ago you could've just watched the English Football Hooligans in the stands or in Italy. Sadly they are mostly retired now, only to come out when Polish or German fans start getting rowdy and we need to show them how it's done properly. The South Americans and Eastern Europeans still try but they are tame by our standards. So in short all physicality from the sport is exiting in favour of diving and more polite fans.

This has by far become the worst argued thread I've seen this year. And it's been a terrible year.

First of all, you're a fool if you even try to argue using the Football/Soccer getting them mixed up arguement. In the event that you are a fool, then I will use Football for the american version and Soccer for the international favourite for the duration of this posts. As a side note, refusing to call it Soccer is also foolish. The British actually came up with that name. It isn't detrimental in the slightest.

By saying things like 'Football is a bunch of 5"5 120lbs pansies prancing around" and then comparing them to your enormous athletes who play American Football is nonsense. Just because you are built.

Lets use one of your guys. Chris Johnson was mentioned earlier as someone who could play soccer. His size? Well Wikipedia says 5"11, 200lbs. What can you really use from those facts that prove that he could play Soccer? How about another of your favourites. Terrell Owens. 6"3, 224lbs. Doesn't really make any sense to judge it on size. Besides, I play soccer regularly. I'm 6"0 and weigh 222lbs. Technically, because T.O. has 3 inches on me, I work out as a heavier guy. Yet I'm a soccer guy. Hardly a pansy now am I. The size of a guy has nothing to do with how well he can play sports. NFL guys may be in amazing shape but put them in an MMA fight and they'd get knocked out. Soccer guys would hardly be certain winners in Golf would they? Point has been mooted.

Americans seem to see Soccer as slow, dull, low scoring, boring and lacking of any obvious skill. Well, a typical British POV of American Football is that you stand around for up to five minutes discussing the best way to throw a ball across a field and catch it. You then run and cross a finishing line. This is essentially a game of British Bulldog with a ball. School children play that game.

That isn't my opinion, while I dislike the sport. I understand there is a lot of conditioning and skill involved. Throwing the ball that far is something I could only dream of. One point I did notice was that the kicking in football is far better than the use of kicking in Soccer. I'd love you to explain that one. Free Kicks, Corners, Volleys, Curlers, Chips. There are so many different skills used in Soccer. In football, you generally kick an egg shaped ball either along the floor, up and over or far and high to score. The egg shaped ball is uncontrollable when played along the floor. It's the same as rugby, the bounce is unpredictable and unnatural. In Soccer, the usage of spin can effect how the ball runs along the grass. This is much more technical.

Soccer is all about rioting. Well, welcome to the 1980's apparantly. 20 years later, that has been all but abolished. There is the occasional fight but you show me a sport that doesn't have that. Hell, Ice Hockey has it on the ice by the players. Their punishment? 5 mins in the Sin Bin. Don't talk to me about fighting.

Soccer is low scoring. To be honest, I doubt it is any different to Football really. You just get more points for your touchdowns and conversions. Seriously, someone answer me this in a typical NFL game... use the last Superbowl as the example... how many touchdowns were there in the full match? Don't include Conversions as there is no Soccer counterpart for them.

Actually, I've done it myself. There were 4 Touchdowns and 4 Field goals. I'm not going to count Field goals on par with Touchdowns so I will consider those 4 = to 1 Soccer goal. So 5 goals in a Superbowl. That would be considered a high scoring game in Soccer.

This theory of high scoring/ low scoring is complete crap. Basketball is the next argument but take a look at the length of the court. It's expected that there will be more shots and baskets, resulting in more points. A long pass is the difference between defence and attack. A counter attack can happen in 3-4 seconds. In Soccer, a fast counter is closer to 10-15 seconds. The success of a long end to end pass in Basketball is much more likely to be successful than it is in Soccer and Football. The Boston/Lakers series that has just taken place ended with a seventh game score of 83-79. My maths works that out for every 15 points scored = 1 soccer goal. That's based on if you go 15 points down, you begin to worry. Any more than that and it's really looking bad. 1-0 in football gives you the same feeling. That would make the soccer score 6-5. 11 Goals. Take into account the smaller playing area, the inability to play backcourt and the smaller amount of players and you need to half that score. That works out 3-3... no half points. No more high scoring that a good game of soccer.

That isn't a perfect science and I'm sure many of you wont agree with the maths I've used but that's how I see it. It just points out to me that Americans love as much excitement as possible. A reason to cheer and celebrate. Brits are much more relaxed and laid back than Americans culturally. It's how we are raised. We can appreciate the build up and the defensive display and it's those things we will talk about after the game. With most American sports, it's the moments that make the lights change on the scoreboard that are the reasons to watch sports. You see football as a great passtime. We see soccer as a religion.

I wouldn't say football as a pastime.

That's Baseball and no one and can say anything about that and in baseball games people are more in awe about defense than offense, although seeing a homerun always get people riled up, its usually more defense.

Honestly CJ I can't argue anything you said but I'd rather watch soccer than football (American Football) or basketball anyday.

I'd say its the way that it is portrayed in the media that decides whether or not something becomes popular and in the earlier days of the Americas (the 1800's). Americans were doing whatever it took to seperate themselves from their European counterparts in anyway they saw fit as they were often seen as the "barbarians" or "the bastard child" of different parts of the world (mainly England).

Though no one can argue that soccer (your football) is the fastest growing youth sport in America. It's just how we were raised and taught that makes us appreciate different skills or aspects in sports. Even though I'd rather see a low scoring sporting event than a high scoring event.
Nah? You just proved my point.
"Nah" = disagreeing with you. People do say chess, etc, is boring. Catch up.

What the hell does the economy have to do with this? Marketing doesn't relate to one's taste in sports.

Its not marketing, its American vs non-American, and apparently we don't shun non-American items.

So Football isn't part of American culture. Yao Ming is just one guy.

*Soccer.

And exactly. They never cared about the NBA until Yao came over. Self-centered pricks.

The real reason. That Soccer is boring. Contact Steven Hawkins, your a fucking genious.
And you're not a genius.

Oh no! A joke in this serious thread?!!! Call the police.

RKO SHUT THE HELL UP!!!!

Your posts are why the rest of the world hate us!!!

Dude how many times do I have to tell you. When they say football they mean soccer. Football in the rest of the Universe is just soccer like in the rest of Universe everyone uses the metric system because its simply better. Also, I don't see you making a case for why it isn't. Your just trying to bash people because of where they come from and that's just not cool no matter who you are.

Alright, now back on the topic.

People do say chess, etc, is boring. Catch up.
I believe he said it was boring also. (I find chess enjoyable....when I'm really bored)

Its not marketing, its American vs non-American, and apparently we don't shun non-American items.

What the F*** does this even mean???

Economy is about buying the cheapest labor/materials/ or whatever it may be that one needs. For example if a place in American sells a piece of pipe I need for a project for $100 USD a sq ft and a place in Sweeden sells the same piece of pipe I need for $60 USD (this includes all tariffs and taxes when it reaches the U.S.A). Then of course I'm buying it from Sweeden and vice versa.

*Soccer.

And exactly. They never cared about the NBA until Yao came over. Self-centered pricks.

Look at my rant about names in other countries for sports at the beginning of this post.

The Chinese never had a reason to care for the NBA until Yao came over. Alright, would you root for a South African cricket league that was filled with people from South Africa. NO! and I wouldn't blame you for you have no reason. However, if they would pick someone up from the U.S.A then that would peak my interest and I'd start to pay attention to cricket. Same exact thing happened in China.

Did I say the rest of the world can't continue to enjoy this waste of time? No. You're going all emo on me here. Finish the debate. The question was why it hasn't caught on in the US, and its been answered. Nothing with it being non-American.

What??? This post is one of the most illogical post I have ever seen. Are you past pre-school???

And you're not a genius.

I'm not sure if your serious when saying this or not. What he said was sarcasm and I'm wondering if your not in a mental institute at the moment. Your post really wish I wasn't in America and make me wish I was president so I could make a law that stated everyone under a certain I.Q. would be sent to Canada. Wait no I like Canada maybe Antartica.

No, we invented football to use our entire skill-set. You know, throw, catch, hit, block, all in addition to only running and kicking.
Let's just ignore the existence of goal keepers who use their hands and all. But there were already 3 sports that used that skill set before American's invented Gridiron. Let's take a look;

Rugby Union

Rugby League

Gaelic football

And the funny thing, is none of those sports require pads, nor do they require you stop every ten seconds. They use that "full skill set" you were talking about, so how come America sucks so much at those games? The rest of the world seemed to manage.

I'd rather watch top shape athletes hit each other in 15 second intervals, than to watch 5'5 120 lbs fairies prance around the field for 3 hours, when they only manage 5 shots on goal.
This is more proof of how little you know about football. BTW call Vinnie Jones a fairy. And see how much prancing he does while he breaks every bone in your body.

Believe me, if our best athletes played we'd win it. We have our 20th string athletes in the world cup and they still win a few games. There's a reason we dominate in every other sport.
And again, bullshit the US team in the world cup was their top players. How come America is so badly ranked in Rugby? Why can't you win at cricket? Yeah, your shit. Same with football you don't play it because you can't win. You made up a pussy version of a sport that already existed, but just to make sure you didn't get hurt too much you decided they need to wear 4 tons of protective gear just to survive. Wouldn't want them breaking a nail during their 15 second plays.

There's a reason football is the world game, it's because everyone in the world competes in it. Gridiron on the other hand is a very American game, based on a game that already existed and was played world over as well. Face facts, American's can't win at football so they don't play it.

RKO SHUT THE HELL UP!!!!
After dissecting this atrocious post, I'll show you why you should be the one who shuts up.

Your posts are why the rest of the world hate us!!!

Wahhh.

Good for them. Its called soccer. I cant go around calling cheese puffs Corvettes and expect everyone to catch on, right?

The first post I made was my reason. Everyone responded to that, I'm not re-stating everyone who didn't read page #1.

How did I bash anyone? Read my boy. I explained why Americans, as a majority, are disinterested in soccer. The only negative feedback is from non-Americans, and you. How are non-Americans supposed to give a portrait of how we view it? They can't. They haven't. Everyone is busy complaining how soccer isn't boring or something, which is NOT the topic.
Alright, now back on the topic.

I believe he said it was boring also. (I find chess enjoyable....when I'm really bored)

Yes, he also said most people don't think/say it is. False.
What the F*** does this even mean???

Here's what you do. Read his post, then my reply. If you dont understand the words, look them up.

Thanks for the lesson. Point is people here buy as much non-American as they do American, main example being cars. So obviously, as a whole, we don't despise the rest of the world's products.

But keep pointing out common knowledge.

Look at my rant about names in other countries for sports at the beginning of this post.

Is it as bad as this post?
The Chinese never had a reason to care for the NBA until Yao came over. Alright, would you root for a South African cricket league that was filled with people from South Africa. NO! and I wouldn't blame you for you have no reason. However, if they would pick someone up from the U.S.A then that would peak my interest and I'd start to pay attention to cricket. Same exact thing happened in China.
That's why I said it. I'm glad you worked your way through that jungle of a thought.

Now that you've caught up with us, would you apply bigotry and judgmental to the Chinese because of this? Of course not. Now take that idea, and apply it to this subject. You're almost there!

What??? This post is one of the most illogical post I have ever seen. Are you past pre-school???

Obviously someone who can understand words needs to sit at the computer with you. It made perfect sense.

Was he joking? Wow. Missed that.

:disappointed:

Let's just ignore the existence of goal keepers who use their hands and all. But there were already 3 sports that used that skill set before American's invented Gridiron. Let's take a look;

Rugby Union

And the funny thing, is none of those sports require pads, nor do they require you stop every ten seconds. They use that "full skill set" you were talking about, so how come America sucks so much at those games? The rest of the world seemed to manage.

This is more proof of how little you know about football. BTW call Vinnie Jones a fairy. And see how much prancing he does while he breaks every bone in your body.

Their top SOCCER players, not the best athletes in the United States. Its not that difficult of a concept.

The reason we don't win at cricket? The rest of the world evolved and plays BASEBALL. Are you joking with this post?

The reason everyone plays soccer is because all you need is a freaking round ball. Like Ghana could send us a slew of NFL players. We pick and choose our sports.

This is so decisive I shouldn't even continue posting. I gave 100% correct reasons why Americans don't like soccer, you're whiny opinion doesn't matter in this regard. Now that you'll go ahead and twist that around, I'll clarify even more, again explaining that you're opinion of football, pads etc, has nothing to do with the topic, making it obvious that you are speaking from the wrong perspective.

The only people I know that play soccer play it to cross-train for another sport. Because that's all soccer is. Glorified Cross-Country. Gets you in shape for another sport. Nobody here grows up pretending to be a soccer player in the back yard. Everyone wants to be Peyton Manning or Ray Lewis. Deal with it. That's how it is.

So your opinion is, if a person is good at one sport they're inherently going to be good at another. How'd Michael Jordan's baseball career work out again?

The reason we don't win at cricket? The rest of the world evolved and plays BASEBALL. Are you joking with this post?
Cricket is more widespread than baseball and requires far more money and larger ovals then Baseball. So what exactly about baseball is "evolved"? It's more like a devolution if anything.

The reason everyone plays soccer is because all you need is a freaking round ball. Like Ghana could send us a slew of NFL players. We pick and choose our sports.
I'm sorry did they suddenly stop having hands in Ghana?

This is so decisive I shouldn't even continue posting. I gave 100% correct reasons why Americans don't like soccer, you're whiny opinion doesn't matter in this regard.
So your correct reasons are... because you can't use your hands in Football? All you've provided is proof of your ignorance of the rest of the world and your stupidity by claiming that a top NFL player could beat every top Football player in the world. That's the sort of ******ed argument you'd expect from James Toney.

Now that you'll go ahead and twist that around, I'll clarify even more, again explaining that you're opinion of football, pads etc, has nothing to do with the topic, making it obvious that you are speaking from the wrong perspective.
And I'm still trying to work out what your perspective is, all you've done so far is belittle football and try to talk up some sort of US superiority. You haven't actually said anything that explains why the US doesn't acknowledge football.

You still aren't saying anything of value. The question was "why didn't it catch on" Years before the NFL was a major promotion, someone sat back and said, lets play this instead and so far the only logical reason I can see is because that person sucked at Football.

Your posts scream "Not getting it"

Michael Jordan failed at baseball because he was too old. His hand-eye coordination was developed enough for a professional baseball player. He was very good at a younger age. Think David Beckham could play Shortstop? That's not what I said. If our top athletes are trained at other sports, they'd do very well in them. Try stopping 6'8 275lbs LeBron James on a soccer field, you know, freakishly fast for his height.

It is not more widespread than baseball. The entire world plays baseball.

I'm sorry, are you going to continue with non-sense posts? Did I say they have no hands? You are not very bright. They have supplied maybe 2-3 NFL players, ever.

You obviously haven't read my points then. If that's all you got out of it you need to finish 4th grade before returning to the thread.

First post I made in this thread little guy.

Logical thing YOU can see, I can believe. Logical to you isn't very useful to many others though.

Michael Jordan failed at baseball because he sucked at it. Simply put, HE SUCKED at baseball. Not because he was old, just because every sport takes a different set of skills. Also, if David Beckham trained at shortstop he could play it. Like you said if top athletes are trained at other sports, they MIGHT do very well in them.

It is not more widespread than baseball. The entire world plays baseball.

You do know there's a reason soccer is called the world's game. Its not baseball. Baseball is primarily restricted to those countries of the America shpere of influence during the early live ball era. A.K.A Japan, Chinese Taipai, Samoan Islands, South America and Central America. However, go to almost any other place and baseball isn't that big. It's soccer. Hell there soccer stadiums put our football stadiums to shame.

I'm sorry, are you going to continue with non-sense posts? Did I say they have no hands? You are not very bright. They have supplied maybe 2-3 NFL players, ever.

He was stating that since you posted they cannot produce NFL players and must play soccer then they must have no hands according to your logic.

Then you don't know much about Michael Jordan. He was once a VERY good baseball player. Simply you saying that he sucks doesn't make it true. He wouldn't have even been signed by a MAJOR LEAGUE FRANCHISE.

The point is, the majority of top American athletes don't play soccer, and would probably do very well if they did. There's a reason the US always dominates the olympics. We have better athletes, and play games that utilize every talent.

I don't care what poverty stricken nations play, all of the top countries play baseball. You see world championships in baseball, not so in cricket. You have a bunch of Euro teams, calling it a big deal.

And no, soccer stadiums do not put NFL stadiums to shame.

He was stating that since you posted they cannot produce NFL players and must play soccer then they must have no hands according to your logic.

I know what he was TRYING to do. However, he failed to actual apply my logic, leading to another non-sense post.
