You define good wrestling as having a healthy balance between the entertainment side of wrestling and actual wrestling skill. You seem to look at wrestling matches like your reading a good book, not as some sort of sport as some other people do. Just because the women on the indy circuit and Japan (yes I define Japan as the indy circuit) don't put on matches that are designed to entertain a crowd of thousands doesn't mean that their matches are pure garbage.
Wrestling skill is ALL about entertainment ability. The two are the same.

As long as professional wrestling is created for the sole purpose of creating money, then the best wrestling is going to be that which draws the most money.

Now, if you want to get down to it, and run off the various things needed for good wrestling, we can. We can talk about storytelling, we can talk psychology, we can talk about workrate, we can talk about selling, we can talk about charisma...we can talk about all those things. But, in the end, the best wrestlers, male or female, are the ones that can do all of those things. Because, through the highest possible combination of those things, the most entertainment value is reached, which means that the best wrestling is presented.

Can wrestling be entertaining without being good? Sure, although it's generally for reasons unrelated to quality wrestling. Can it be good without being entertaining? Not a chance.

It amazes me how people seem to think that wrestling can be good if it's not entertaining.

SlyFox is the rear view mirror of intelligence - objects may appear smarter than they are. That's not a knock on Sly - the man is damn smart, but his debate skills are so polished I don't know how much of what he says is intelligence and how much is pure communication skills. He is able to totally dissect somebody's arguement, even if it takes the points out of context, and obliterate each point calmly. Plus, unlike some less-successful debators, he doesn't blow his load on the first arguement - he asks you questions about your point in an attempt to get you to say something that you'll end up paying for. The result is the inevitable surrender of "well, that's just your opinion, Sly."
I will be laughing about this one for days to come.

Great post.

My top 5, for as little as I've been here, would be-

1. Slyfox- He could beat most people in a debate after one post, I don't want to be one of those people. After reading his posts my IQ seems to go up a few points.
2. xfearbefore- His temper may get the best of him sometimes, but he does have some very good points.
3. Shockmaster- He doesn't boast about his knowledge, but we all know he has a lot of it.
4. IrishCanadian25- He got Vader to the Final Four of the WZ wrestling tournament. Need I say more?
5. TheOneBigWill- I might be one of the few people who enjoys reading his essays on almost whatever he types, knows a lot on a couple of topics.

After that, I'm not sure, as I'm not on here a lot.

Quick question, how do feel about the Japanese Womens wrestlers, as many of those women were immensely popular in the promotions that they competed for. The matches that I have watched show that the crowds were very much committed to the womens wrestling that they paid to see and were even more commented to the women that put on a show for them, as many of the crowds gave the wrestlers a standing ovation after their matches. Even though the matches may not have fitted your criteria of what an entertaining match should have been, the women did reach the crowd and "entertain" them enough to warrant there respect via the appluase they received after their matches.

I couldn't tell ya.

I haven't watch enough of Japanese wrestling to understand the culture, and necessary requirements for entertaining those crowds.

I'm talking about US based wrestling, because I don't really venture out much. However, in the end, good wrestling is going to incorporate the same elements into a match. However, the way those elements are incorporated may be different, depending upon the culture of the potential audience.

So what happens when women from the US go over to Japan and are successfully able to entertain the crowds there. Does that mean those women are considered good wrestlers in Japan but not in the US because their style is different from the entertainment based style presented by the WWE or another major US wrestling promotion?

Yeah, there was a reason for that.

I mean, I don't really understand what point you are trying to prove there.

Meh, I don't care about cars.

Tell me, if you're trying to create an up-tempo basketball game, which full court press do you prefer?

The Blue one?

I'm only a casual fan of basketball, I don't know enough about it to answer the question

Now, apply that to women's and Japanese wrestler, and you'll understand what I'm saying.

2-1-2, or 100 as my team liked to call it. We forced a turnover about 60% of the time.
A 2-1-2 can be beaten by a team of ******ed monkeys. The only way that creates up-tempo game is by you giving up layups.

Trap, then rotate. FACT.
Wears your front guys out too fast. By the end of the game, you'll be playing 7 on 5 because you're so tired.

Not if you were on my team. Granted, those teams were pretty bad, but we still forced them to play our style, not theirs. Ours was up-tempo.

EDIT: Actually, now that I remember, it was a 2-1-2/trap. We started out in 2-1-2, but after they started moving we trapped. Like I said it worked pretty well.

For whoever voted for me as smartest poster you must be on crack.

Am I smart? Yeah. I'm a freakin' genius. But you wouldn't know it from how or what I post on this forum.

I do smoke crack, but thats not why I said Jake was the smartest WZ member. I said it becuase he proves people worng and makes so much sense with such little effort

both. all the above I do belive. Although I did say if I wanted someone to be my lifeline if I was on who wants to be a millionaire, I said Ech, then Sly.

If it's wrestling, it's not me.

If it's general knowledge then none of you would know. I don't make serious posts for the most part.

Agreed.

I know a lot of American wrestling since 1984, but outside of that, my knowledge is very limited, but I'm trying to learn. I bought "The Heels" and I'll tell you what, none of us are nearly as smart as we're made out to be. I plan on buying "The Heroes" when that is released. I plan on expanding my knowledge back to the NWA title formation.

General Knowledge, who knows, my little secret.
