What's Next For Cody Rhodes?

Since losing the Intercontinential Championship, Cody hasn't had a feud! This makes me pretty mad, because once again, they are wasting a good talent! He just lost to Sin Cara on Smackdown! That is a HUGE step down.

So what is next for Cody Rhodes?

I believe that Rhodes, Chistian, Rey Mysterio, and Miz could have a great 4-way feud! I know that this probably won't happen, but it would be awesome to see. They could just do this, until a spot opens up in the main event scene.

Well yeah, it's a step down in our eyes, but tbh, Sin Cara, though he gets a lot of flack from the IWC, is a pretty big deal to the kids and in Mexico, so in reality he's probably on the border of upper midcarder regardless of what the marks think.(he was on the cover of a video game within his first year... that's a pretty big statement)

But yeah, I see Cody feuding with Cara for a good while before they decide what to do with him. You gotta admit though, it was pretty easy to lose him in the shuffle once he lost the IC title: Brock is headlining Summerslam, Wade is coming back, Orton and Mysterio returned, Ambrose might debut soon, ADR is getting another push and WWE are building up guys like Sandow, Ryback, and the aforementioned Sin Cara. Cody is at least on TV with something to do now, so I'm at least somewhat grateful for that. It could've been worse: he could've dropped down to Jack Thwagger levels of burial right about now

There was speculation months ago that he was possibly busted for juicing. Every time I think of how far he's fallin since losing the IC title, my mind keeps going to that.

Since he took off the mask, he just has another generic heel look, and it seems like he gets a lesser reaction. I've never been extremely high on rhodes to begin with, the dude can wrestle. Put him with a pure wrestler and they could light it up ala CM Punk vs Daniel Bryan. Maybe even a lengthy feud with Orton will help both of them get back on track. Without something soon, I feel he could end up just like his old tag team partner.

I don't see him loosing to Cara as a step down for Cody, I see it as a step up for Cara. Sin Cara's only feud since joining WWE was against himself. The fact that Cody focused on Sin Cara's mask for the duration of their match tells me that WWE is going somewhere with this.

IMO Rhodes will feud with Cara trying to unmask him, trying to get Sin Cara to stop hiding. Hopefully this somehow leads to the stupid mood lights disappearing. Also I'm hoping once he inevitably looses to Cara, Rhodes dawns a mask once again. Not a dumb plastic mask, but a Mick Foley/Abyss type mask.

Bottom Line, since loosing his mask, Rhodes is boring. There is nothing special about him. He dosen't have a great look, his mic skills are mediocre, and his ring skills are nothing special. Rhodes needs a character to be relevant. I compare him to Jay Lethal, both men are good at imitating/portraying a character, but they can't cut it without one. I see Rhodes in any feud as a step up.

I think it would be interesting to see Cody Rhodes paired with a girlfriend/valet and it would make sense seeing as his whole "Dashing" gimmick first started when he supposedly was "voted the best-looking male superstar" by the WWE Divas. He could then get into a feud with a midcard/upper midcard babyface who his girlfriend/valet ends up leaving him for, because she realizes Cody is just an arrogant prick who never really treated her that well. However, Cody would think she left him because she thought he was ugly or that the other guy was simply better looking, which would drive him crazy because he's so obsessed with his physical appearance and "dashing" good looks. This would drive him to put his old mask back on (or to wear a new version of it), hiding his face from the world again, and bring a much more demented side to his character. He'd essentially be a narcissist driven over the edge.

It might not be the best idea in the world, but at least it's a storyline with a clear direction and some character development that would make Rhodes a much more compelling superstar to watch. People seem to be a fan of when he wore the mask and was kind of nuts, so this is an interesting way to get back to that character.

This maybe a horrible idea, but, I would make Cody Rhodes the new Goldust. Where he needs a more interesting gimmick why not have him loose his marbles from going on a major loosing streak. Have him sinking into a dark state of mind. Then have him come out in the Goldust costume. He could say he is the new and improved Goldust and that he is going to do what is older brother couldn't do and become a world champion. I would team him with A.J. keeping her in her crazy character. He don't have to look exactly like his brother, but have a costume and face paint similar to his brother. Maybe even a Joker like character, sorta like Sting in TNA. I think this twisted type character would work for Cody. He's not the biggest guy in the business so he needs a strong angle that he can flurrish with and the mentally unstable character seems to be a good fit for him.IMO.

Situations like this raises an argument that a new hard brand split (ie 2003/2004) needs to happen again. At weak roster the brand split makes no sense but over the recent years the WWE has developed a pool of up and coming superstars like Barrett, The Miz, Ziggler, Otunga, Cara, Rhodes, Sandow, Kingston, Swagger, Marella and has a pool of established upper mid carders like Mysterio and Christian.

Problem now is, its becoming harder for these guys to break through since top stars can be seen on both shows and PPV's are shared by both RAW and Smackdown!

If we still had a brand split and let's say Rhodes is in the SD brand we could see him get more focused TV time while being part of major angles for the the SD Brand Exclusive PPV.

With the format now PPV's will surely have the established top guys as the focus of each show, the slots given to the younger guys is just too limited.

The dude is only 27 for Christ sake! He has years left to build himself up. WWE just have nothing for him right now, because the mid card is practically non existent right now. His intercontinentle title reign was forgettable and then he lost it to Christian, who, no offense, isn't exactly the most compelling of characters on television.

Give him time just like you gave ziggler time and he will become a major star. Give him next year, this coming WrestleMania, a worthy opponent. Let him season and moisturize a little and by this time next year, he could be in run for a money in the bank win. Hopefully WWE have money in the bank at WrestleMania and Rhodes wins.

His character just isn't compelling enough to breakthrough yet. He needs some thing more to add.

It depends what WWE has in mind for Cody's future. When Miz and Dolph Ziggler were removed from main event matches and forced to endure jobber streaks, I thought their pushes had ended, that management had decided these two guys weren't worth keeping at the top. Yet, look what happened; Miz is IC champion and being featured again while Dolph is thrown at us on every episode of Raw and Smackdown. I believe WWE has decided to renew their pushes and views them as the future of the company.

The same probably applies to Cody Rhodes. For a long time, he was in Dolph's position, wrestling on every card and being handed gimmick after gimmick to run with. No matter how bland he appeared when he spoke, the company couldn't do enough for him. I'll never figure what the company sees in this guy that I don't see.

Why? I couldn't say.......I like Cody as a mid-card worker but definitely don't see him as "star" material. Therefore, my guess is that Cody will be enduring a down period for awhile, after which he'll be bounced right up to the top.....viewed as a WWE golden boy for years to come.

I don't know, Cody has so much potential, but WWE seems to not know what do with him. Maybe having him feud for a while will give him something to do while they look for something long term for him. I'm not saying this is a bad idea, pretty similar to when he was feuding with Rey Mysterio.

I don't know, it seems like they are confused since they are busy focusing on pushing people like The Miz and Dolph Ziggler. Maybe they have no freakin idea what to do with him and they are just trying to kill two birds with one stone by giving both Sin Cara and Cody a program. Maybe they have something in mind for him but they are trying to bid their time until the time is right.

The immediate answer is Sin Cara. With the way their match played out last week on Smakdown it is obvious the WWE is going somewhere with this story. The timing of it kinda sucks though because I think it started too late to add to a SummerSlam card that already includes:

WWE title match
WHC match
IC title match
Tag title match
Brock v Trips
Daniel Bryan v Kane
Chirs Jericho v Dolph Ziggler
some sort of divas match

That's 7 confirmed matches, with a good chance that the 8th match is going to be a divas match makes this a complete card. So with that I doubt Cody and Sin Cara can find their way on this card and they wouldn't be at the next ppv since its Night of Champions. I would then expect their fued to play out on Smackdown and hopefully some on Raw and end around the beginning of the Fall.

Once he's done with Sin Cara, Cody can go in any direction. What is known is that whatever is in store for him would involve the midcard. Now my hope is that by the time the Rumble comes around he is featured heavily in promos leading up to the Rumble and has a good showing. That should be what puts him back on the upper midcard track and gets him a singles match at Mania against an established star for Cody to win and continue his push. He could ride that momentum over another fued or 2 to get him by until MITB where he would hopefully win a breifcase to start his main event push.

Rhodes should NOT put the mask back on. Talk about a backtrack. However he needs to 'relapse' to the point where he can make a logical move the Dashing-Demented-Psycho (i.e. Hannibal Lecter/Patrick Bateman gimmick). The first step of that is to get back to demented which is possible in a feud with Sin Cara. Cody's going to have to do a lot of good promos though seeing as he will single-handedly be carrying the mic work of the feud, if it goes anywhere that is.

About Cody Rhodes, i always said that he's a modern day Owen Hart, he's very good in the ring and he can keep up with just about anyone, but i don't see him going to the main event, he's a solid mid card talent with the ocational WHC or WWE title match, and the reason we haven't seen him in a feud yet is because the WWE does not know what to do with the mid card guys, he might be starting a feud with Sin Cara, but at the moment no one knows where this is going, i don't think that the WWE will put him in a feud with Cena, Punk, Orton, or Daniel Bryan soon, they are probably saving that for Barret when he returns, unfortunatly for Cody, he's stuck in the mid card for years to come, i like the guy, so i hope i' wrong........
