What would you think about bringing back a Eugene-like character?

By that I mean someone who steals other wrestlers' trademarks. Maybe even steal a move from who he is competing against. But of course he would have his own finisher/signature and yadda yadda yadda.

Someone who is a wrestling Mimic, you'd would have to have a really skilled performer that could do most of those moves while not having a discernible unique style of his own. Which would be interesting if someone could totally mimic like say the Rock's Punches. Would be headache of a character to make in SD vs Raw, since his Finisher's could never been singled out depending on what wrestler he has taken the persona of. Which would be the crowning touch, he not only mimic the wrestling moves, but the mannerisms dress and personality of the wrestler...Shifting back and forth from personality to personality maybe every couple of weeks..

And the ironic part would be if he was compelled to be just himself, to have him out looking like some vanilla wrestler, unsure of himself and no style almost complete jobber like...when he is not assuming another character

Only to team with Santino or someone like that. Something for the kids to watch and have fun with. Not as a serious role, but if the character came back, he needs team with the jobbers instead of making a fine, decorated veteren wrestler like Regal feud/team with this type person. If the character is brought back,, it only needs to be for a Santino/comedy type roles.
As for a stealing trademark deal, no. You see wrestlers steal or use other wrestler's moves all the time. But the wrestlers who steal the moves, would never actually get the pin. What makes this Eugene type character so special. Charlie Haas kinda made it funny, but no. Stop with the jokes and focus on writing great storylines...

They could have done it with Charlie Haas, and it would have been amazing had they decided to give him a wrestling push instead of keeping him only in the comedy skits.

This would have to take a really cocky character saying he's better then everyone at what they do and have him copy the style of the wrestler he's facing or just copy moves of past wrestlers say stone cold or the rock. This would take a really athletic superstar.

I could see Darren young doing that. Someone said that he may become literally, black cena, where he wares cena's clothes and does his moves.

I wish they had fleshed that part of Eugene out a bit more. Colt Cabana has done something like that once or twice...it could be entertaining as a lower card wrestler, maybe occasionally to show up a guy like Edge (who would then decimate the guy the next week, and lead to a feud with whoever came to help him out, most likely). He'd have to be good at the imitation (Jey Lethal comes to mind), and have some charisma and good writing to pull it off, but I think it could be done and entertaining.

Actually I can think of a current-roster WWE star that could pull that off: Goldust. Anyone remember the trading places match with him and Regal? Goldust played the part to the hilt, right down to KOing Regal with the knucks!

Genius isn't it? So yeah I'd like to see Goldust take on this type of role. It would get him out the Goldust gimmick (mostly!) and gives a guy who's done almost everything a guy can do in the ring a chance to stay fresh.

It's not a bad idea, really. The fact is that the WWE already had that chance post-Eugene and pretty much blew it. That chance was Charlie Haas. Anybody else remember all those impressions that he did a couple of years ago. If the WWE had gone ahead with it and made the mimicry into a "legit" gimmick instead of making him job all the time, then what you say might just have happened. Haas could have done it, too. He's among the most versatile of wrestlers.

If the WWE actually wanted to do this (which I doubt) they'd have to entice him back from ROH and he seems happy there.

Good idea, though. Perhaps one day they'll try it again and do it right this time.

I always wanted to see a chameleon type wrestler. One that mimics their opponent and be seen as an actual threat because of that very reason. For example like Shang-Tsung.You could be fighting him but then he could turn into you at anytime which could throw you off because he knows all your moves. I was hoping they would do it with Haas..but as you can see they turned it into a joke..I think they should try this gimmick tho.

now see this is some funny shit. i thought of this idea for myself many years ago if i was to go into wrestling. but my idea was to be called mr. personality, where i would basically rip off a different wrestlers gimmick persay evry so often. or maybe even change personalities in the middle of a match.example-(using wrestlers from whe i thought of the idea) imitating jake roberts, then maybe after getting my finisher reversed or hit with my opponants finisher, morph into the ultimate warrior and start shaking the roipes and beating on my chest on so on and so on. i was to wear a mask to conceil my identity and therefore, u never knew if i was a trainer or announcer or what when i didnt have a match. hell i could have been a member of the tag chanmps at the time. i think given the right wrestler today, this concept could be fun and still at least make it to a midcard run at the least if taken seriously enough. hell santino could even do it, gregory helms had the hurricane, why couldnt santino have mr personality? and by the way, thank you for this thread cause it brought up something i havent thought of for years

Stupid. It won't draw a dime. No one wants to watch a ****** steal others moves for cheap pops. You want Santino, Goldust, Hornswaggle, Regal, and on TOP of that EUGENE in there? Too many comedy characters with no purpose of being on the show. The gimmick was done years ago and doesn't need to come back. Period.

People are smarter than that nowadays.

Really? It's all down to the booking buddy. Those of us who're for the gimmick are mostly for it ONLY if the gimmick isn't booked as one of those comedy characters you're mentioning (though I'll give you props for Hornswoggle bashing!). Keep in mind that Goldust/Regal have been in the business so long that there really isn't much left for them to accomplish seeing as they'll never be world champion. Not to mention that anyone that does this type of character would have to be talented enough to incorporate just about anyone's moveset into their arsenal.

Besides, the move stealing doesn't have to be for cheap pops. If I were booking it, I'd have this move/personality-stealing gimmick as a heel seeing as typically swiping your opponent's finisher (or signature moves) a heel tactic of humiliation. And one final note: I'd rather watch a "ring chameleon" than some of the lovely gimmicks that I'm surprised got over for any period of time: Charlie Haas the Impersonator, Eugene (the first run), Doink the Clown (ever), Khali as the Punjabi Playboy, the Boogeyman, Santino and his current thing with the Cobra (he's far better as a heel IMO), and John Morrison as a face, among others.

How about ...

NO!!!

What good is this type of person? A nostalgia act? Do you think anyone would pop for a Rock Bottom done by some random douche? This week on RAW Jericho mentioned some of the most legendary and "over" wrestlers ever, and the crowd barely popped for their names like they used to. 'Member the old days when just mentioning the town they're at would draw a bigger pop than Cena at Wrestlemania coming down from the skies with a jetpack, throwing bags of money in the crowd, singing the national anthem WHILST working on a cure for Cancer AND succeeding at it? It's like fans these days are just random people passing by. No idea when to pop, no idea when to sit down and shut up.

Such a character would be a waste of time. I hate Santino, I hate Goldust, I hate any comedy jobber. They're not funny, they're not interesting in the ring - they are useless.

Pandering to the kids should be the last thing WWE wants to do. Give 'em Cena. Cena's enough. Dress him up in bright colors, make him smile all the time, kiss babies, resurrect people. He's more than enough.
