What Would You Do To Make WWE (Wrestling) More Realistic?

A very simple yet effective way of doing it would be post-match in-ring interviews for important PPV matches.

It can get across the turning points and important parts of a match with the winner and loser going over where they won or lost the match and selling the after-effects, as well as giving a good chance to get their characters over with the audience and advance storylines.

On top of that, it will add some realism to the whole match situation as well as getting the importance of wins and losses over.

Yeah??

Pro wrestling should be seen as an ESCAPE from reality. There isn't really a lot you could do to make it more realistic when everybody knows that it's a scripted show and the outcomes are predetermined. Sorry brah

The only thing I can think of is having some sort of rankings system like TNA had going for a while. It would make EVERY match mean something again if we knew that somebody who consistently wins will have some sort of payoff in the near future.

Well i was thinking about this a while ago and i think if tey did something along the lines of 24/7 (the hbo boxing/mayweather thing) where we can get a in depth look on how they train for big matches sorta like what they did for Bret vs Shawn at Mania where you saw them train for their match

After watching the best of Monday Nitro, I think that the WWE's goal should be to make wrestling LESS realistic. Let's go back to storylines that were unpredictable and shock us. Look, fans know wrestling is scripted...it's not a surprise anymore. So, why try to make the product as real as MMA? Let's have quality matches, enjoyable feuds, and do things that seem outlandish. As far as realism, let's make it more like a "sport" again. Remember when Gorilla Monsoon or even WCW's announcers would talk about strategy during the matches and the reasoning behind certain moves instead of promoting that night's main event (ala Cole)? It made it seem more realistic...it made the matches more meaningful knowing that they could be in line for a WCW Television Title match if they won this one. That's one thing I like about TNA is that Tazz actually treats wrestling like it's still a sport and not "entertainment." If WWE wants to make their product better, move away from realism in some spots and give us that feel that it's a sport again. It'll make for more believable television.

This.

When people today here 'more realism in wrestling' for some reason they immediately think that means making wrestling more like MMA. That's not what it means at all.

Wrestling should be treated as a sport. A flamboyant sport, but it's overall logic should be based in the fact that it is a sport.

That's the fault of the people who use the word "realism" when they clearly mean something else. Besides, when has Mcmahon land not been cartoony?

For starters, backstage segments need addressing. If I was getting changed in a locker room I wouldn't let a camera man and boom mic man in. At the moment its always Wrestler A is getting ready when Wrestler B walks in and talks to him. Wrestler A should not allow camera and boom mic man in his locker room, that’s stupid.

A way to resolve this could be to have interviews in the locker room with Wrestler A, then have Wrestler B interrupt. Or have camera and boom mic man just in the corridor, then see Wrestler B walk in Wrestler A's locker room and then follow in.

The backstage segments should look like they haven't just happened when there is no match on. More segments should be segments that happened 'Moments Ago' or 'During the Break'. It just says to me that wrestlers only say anything worthwhile to each other when nothing is happening in the ring.

That’s my main unrealistic gripe.

I'd like to see the WWE get back to having blood and using of cuss words. It just seems bland to me now a days with the non violence type action. When people cuss, one tends to listen better than normal. The bood adds more realisticness to the event.

No more irish whips. Why the fuck when pushed would you pivot on your inside foot, grab the top rope, lean into it, then run back, a pretty coordinated move, but then you're too dumbfounded to duck a clothesline?

People don't want realism. They want fantasy. You create a "universe" and then stay in that realm. by that I mean you can't establish that pigs don't fly, then have pigs fly. WWE is a live performance and entertainment. Even The Dark Knight, a movie that pushed realism wasn't all that realistic. It just explained everything and kept it "real" within it's real.

If people want to see "real" they'll go watch UFC. Even UFC likes to create stories though, because that's what sells.

So trash TV and cheap pops? That's shitty and not a very good long term plan. In the attitude era there were parental groups set up against the WWF. You don't see that now. There is value to that. Also, if a wrestler can't get over without being crude, they aren't very good. Also, if you can't enjoy wrestling without cussing and blood, maybe you don't actually like wrestling and should watch Jersey Shore/Jerry Springer to get your fix of white trash entertainment.
