What was the point of that promo Tommy?

WZCW's Mr Excitement
On Impact Tommy Dreamer cut a career-best promo. It was fantastic and had a bucket load of emotion into it. I like that he had a link with each of them. There was nothing wrong with what he said.

Except one thing. Why did that come off as an entirely babyface promo in favour of Fortune? Why should Fortune be booed now? Dreamer put them over on the mic, EV2 put them over in the ring already. Why is this feud not over already? When the inevitable match at BFG happens, what will be the point to it? Where will the heat be?

Unfortunately TNA has previous with this sort of thing. The MEM were cheered for most of the time Sting was involved because the Frontline came off. I know that storyline eventually paid off at BFG last year but that had a significantly longer lasting build to it.

Fortune need to be competing for titles on all levels, not totally focussed on a mid-card feud that has no potential to put them over and develop them further.

So what I am asking is what do you all think will happen with Fortune between now and 2011. Will they ever have more than one champion? A World champion? All the titles? That has to be the pay off somewhere doesn't it?

You want my opinion about Fourtune?

I think AJ Styles, Beer Money, Matt Morgan and Flair really belong there.

Kazarian looks stupid and out of place. He doesn't belong. He is not a good heel either. Same with Doug Williams. He doesn't belong either. He looks out of place and yes, he is a good heel but he is not Fourtune material.

So Fourtune should trim the fat and stay with 4!!! 4 guys plus Ric Flair. They should not be faces... they should stay heels. AJ is doing a superb job as the leader and I see Fourtune doing great.

Have you noticed the diff when Ric Flair is not shouting and out of control (someday he will have a heart attack)? Now he looks cooler... as a real manager. If they keep pushing the guys, I can see them having all the titles in 2011. AC can be WHC, Matt can be TV Champ, and Beer Money can be WTTC.

Career best? I dont know about that.

The point of the promo was to get sympathy for Tommy and to show that he wanted to mend bridges and be a peacemaker between them. The reason it lasted so long was for build up to the last moment. This entire thing was done as a means to put Fortune over as heels. They stood there listening to his heart felt speech and how much he liked them and then they decided to destroy him anyway. That was the point, and Idk why so many people seem to miss this.

Now Fortune has been booked like shit, they lose their matches, they lost a title to Jay Lethal, and they have to gang up just to beat down Tommy Dreamer. I have no idea where they will go because they have almost no credit. The promo and beat down were in part meant to establish more cred. Will it work and will they be booed? We'll just have to wait and see. The Impact Zone never boos anyone because theyre a bunch of stupid smarks, so its doubtful.

Not sure about this one but I think it was a sign off Fortune showing disrespect towards EV 2.0 because remember when Dreamer ended the promo A.J Styles said 'I don't need your respect or any thing' then beat him up then Brian Kendrick came in to shield Dreamer. I think this storyline in EV 2.0 is either about respect or tuft war any way it will be awesome.

That's what I've been wondering. For Total Non Stop Action, that took up about 25 minutes. I've always been a fan of ECW and TNA; but this was embarrassing. I used to admire Dreamer's heart for wrestling; but when is going to win a match? By kissing up to Fortune, he let his fans down.

I know that TNA is trying to build up younger talent; but you can't do that by having them dominate every week-they need to lose once in a while. If Fortune lost to EV2 once in a while, it would make the show more interesting. It's old school philosophy. Look in the day of the Four Horsemen; they lost once in a while to build up the tension and put butts in the seats. That's what TNA needs to do.

I tell you the part that was dumb was Dreamer saying,Oh I got you and you a Job with WWE. Really? Shut up TNA and stop sucking on WWE's sucess by giving them more Promotion and worry about your selves.

I didn't understand Dreamer alluding to WWE either. By bringing up WWE every time exposition is used, TNA pulls the attention away from their own product and reminds everyone that they're stuck in WWE's shadow. Frankly, it makes TNA look envious and second rate.

I liked the fact that Dreamer talked about his links to each guy and I got the concept of the segment... It's just really hard for angles like that to play out in the Impact Zone... No matter what AJ does, they will cheer him...

What I would do if I was TNA is... Have Dreamer come out there with his crew... Richards, Rhino, and Kid Kash... Have him talk about how he swallowed his pride and tried to call a truce and how Fourtune still has no respect for him... Have him say that he's not going to be Mr Nice Guy nomore and they have awaken the Extreme in him... Have him wrestle Kaz in a hardcore match and totally destroy him to get some of his cred back have Fourtune come out at the end and try to jump Dreamer then EV2 comes out and actually gets the best of fourtune have them put AJ through a table or something, bloody up Flair, the whole thing...

That, would be a good lead into BFG where Fourtune would go over on EV2 and if I had my way, it would be totally an ECW style match at BFG... Make it really extreme... That way Fourtune beats them at their own game...

To me, that would put Fourtune over as a dominant stable...

Then have them move on and put AJ back in the main event scene...

I understand that there is no need to bring up the competition, but WWE is so huge and a lot of workers in TNA have some sort of history there so you have to bring it up sometimes. I don't think you have to say "This is wrestler "A" who was in DX in WWE, but when you are talking about history between wrestlers then sometimes you have to bring up other promotions. It doesn't matter if it is WWE, WCW, or TNA. Dreamer's promo was a classic old school promo of a veteran face promoting the young heels.

It has been before in all companies such as Flair and Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho, Triple H and Sheamus, and Chris Jericho and Ricky Steamboat just to name a few. Whatever cheers Fourtune received were soon silenced after they attacked Tommy Dreamer. The problem with this feud is that it should be over already. The feud probably won't finalize until Bound For Glory. Another problem is that EV 2.0 is low in numbers. Dreamer, Foley, Rhino, Sabu, and maybe Kendrick are the only names that are available to wrestle Fourtune.

Fourtune should beat EV 2.0 once and for all and go on to bigger and brighter pastures. Hopefully this will lead to the members of Fourtune competing for world titles. If Fourtune does not compete for any world title, then their whole existence is moot.

But let's be honest here. People would bitch and complain if they let the "old rejects" EV2.0 go over against Fortune. Even if they did lose once an awhile, you know how many internet marks would complain and spam over it?

You can never win when TNA does something. It's better if they make them look good and TNA getting butts in seats is very easy in Orlando.

But my point is when TNA mentions WWE it makes them look stupid and 2nd rate. WCW could afford to do it because they were competing on a Weekly basis where TNA is not.

Lol Okay. He mentioned with PURPOSE.

You think it's intelligent to say, "I offered you a contract in....the other company because the IWC wants us not to say WWE because it's a bad word like it's religion"

It's not like he came out and started talking about WWE for no reason or taking shots at the company. He came out, cut a promo and said REALITY. You want to live in a fantasy land that makes WWE to be so high and mighty that anyone below them that mentions the three letters is 2nd rate. That's ridiculous.

TNA mentions WWE? Yes. It's played out? Yes. When it's used with a general purpose, It should not be a problem.

But from the looks of that Signature, you really are desperate to hate TNA.

Seems to me he was pretty much saying that EV2.0 is no more and in the process put over all of Fourtune and from someone like Tommy he should have put everyone over with words alone. However being that Fourtune beat Dreamer down it seems as if the final showdown between EV2 and Fourtune will happen at BFG... which is where the safe money is. I expect a survivor series type of deal with Fourtune getting the win again

I guess it was done to get Fortune over as heels and it did work for now. I just don't see how Dreamer and EV2 will look after this. Dreamer came out basically begging for a truce looking weak in my opinion. If EV2 faces Fortune at Bound for Glory. I don't see how EV2 can look strong in that match after Dreamer begged for a truce and verbally praised every member of Fortune.

This is EXACTLY my point. Where possibly can any match go from here. While it could be a great match if not overbooked (5 on 5 War Games style?), but what is the point, the pay off?

The answer I suspect is nothing. EV2 have been beaten in singles matches and should lose at BFG. Beyond what, I hope Ev2 go home and Fortune can focus on singles competition.

The only real purpose I saw overall was the continuation of the Fortune/EV2.0 feud. I don't know really where they're going to go from here as the feud really should be over. Fortune has beaten EV2.0 in tag matches and elimination tag matches on iMPACT!, Fortune members have cleanly beaten EV2.0 in ppv matches, including at least 1 title match, so I don't really see what's left to do. I haven't been interested in this feud due in large part that EV2.0 just seems so far below the league of many of the wrestlers that comprise Fortune. I simply don't care about the guys that make up EV2.0.

As for the promo itself, I'm just tired of all the various Tommy Dreamer sob story promos. It just makes me look at the guy as being rather pathetic. We get to hear more and moer about how he loves the business, how he had to watch his company die, etc. I've heard it all before time and time again from Tommy Dreamer. Dreamer and most of the guys in EV2.0 have ridden the coat tails of the original ECW legacy for most of their careers. That goes double for Dreamer, especially since coming to TNA. Dreamer asking for a truce so Fortune will stop hurting his friends is about as Un-ECW as it gets.

Isn't that the point of getting Fourtune more over that way. He preaches how he loves this business and how hardcore he is. Well by calling a truce means no matter how hardcore and passionate he is he still can't beat the best TNA has to offer. So for the first time in his life he has to back down from a bunch of TNA guys because ECW can't beat them. It was the highest rated segment on Impact (1.33) so obviously a lot of people cared about this.

Unless...EV2 are about to get extreme on that ass. EV2 has been out of their element so far and they aren't getting any results. Maybe now EV2 cranks it up a bit with the violence and wins at the next ppv in some gimmick match that wouldn't make Fourtune look weak in the process. In any case, EV2 seems to be a flop unfortunately, but I think it's perhaps there just wasn't enough time devoted to getting them over on impact. They have been booked very weak and we get the point of TNA > ECW but if we know anything about ECW it's that it's not over until you're stretchered out of the arena in a full body cast. Even then, expect Foley and Sabu to be wheeled down to ringside on a gurney to keep the fight going.. they won't stop til the casket drops.

It was an amazing segment. A lot of you seem to want to nitpick this to death but some of you got it. EV2.0 is there to get Fourtune and TNA over. That's it. So Dreamer cut an awesome freakin' promo and like a poster mentioned above, even ECW can't beat TNA.

Don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE ECW mark but being a mark, I know that I enjoyed what ECW had when ECW was around. Today, and EV2.0, well they can't beat TNA. And I don't think the whole EV2.0 thing is supposed to last beyond BFG. It was just a short program, as good as they could muster, for themselves and the fans. It's been a good ride but Fourtune will be picking up a lot of speed post BFG. You watch.
