Just like the thread in the music section. Except replace "song" with "TV show" and "listening to" with "watching". Yeah.

Friday Night Dinner

The premise is simple for this sitcom. Two young adult brothers go to their parents house for dinner on Friday night. It's a bit like a modern-day Royle Family. Except more middle-class and more Jewish. It picks up on all the eccentricities we have in our families. The nicknames, the phrases that everyone has in their homes, etc. The characters are all different and get their fair share of funny lines. In particular, the odd father (Martin) and the odd neighbour (Jim) provide good laughs and are (like all the characters) played superbly (the timing and flow of the dialogue is impeccable).

While it would appear to be a conceptual and smart sitcom (being set within one night, well written dialogue, etc), there is also an element of a farce about it. Physical comedy which could be seen as cheap if used excessively. Here, it is just hilarious and provides a nice contrast.

What they talk:
When a twenty-something computer geek inadvertently downloads critical government secrets into his brain, CIA and NSA assign two agents to protect him and exploit such knowledge, turning his life upside down.

My opinion:
That is a great show, great story telling, very funny and with awesome fight scenes!!
You feel that you can create bonds with all of the characters!
It is very addictive and have a great cast!

You may think that it's funny that I watch these programs but lately, I've been watching Fox News everyday. I'm not big on politics but I feel that it's important to watch what's going on around us, you know?. I've mainly been watching the big 3 evening shows: Van Susteren, Hannity, and The O'Reilly Factor. IMO, I get entertained by some of the debates and some of the subjects they bring up, but overall, I watch them for some current issues.

I mostly get into Bill O'Reilly's show. I like his views on things like drugs, rap music, and child abuse.

Destination Truth

I really find the host, Josh Gates very entertaining and witty. I've been catching up on last season on my DVR and am really excited to begin the current season. It really messed up my viewing schedule when they switched from Wednesday nights to Tuesday nights.

I just wish that eventually they would find/discover something. This is the same problem that keeps me going back and forth with Ghost Hunters...I want to see Bigfoot darn it!

Eastbound & Down

I saw the first two episodes of season 1 and just had a friend download all of season 1 and 2 to my laptop. I'm going to laugh my ass off in a few hours while I'm flying to sunny San Diego!

I hope I'm not sitting next to a blue haired old lady like my last flight. Apparently, the elderly are easily offended and the geezer didn't appreciate the bachelor party scene from he movie Beer League.

Either way...You're Fucking OUT!

The only show I am consistently watching each week right now is Justified. I cannot get enough of Timothy Olyphant. He is definitely one of the best actors working today and is incredibly underrated. Justified is also just a great show. Each episode is a story which is helping to tell an even bigger story. The writers aren't afraid of killing people either which is refreshing. I love Sons of Anarchy and The Shield but both shows are a little scared when it comes to actually killing characters. Justified doesn't worry about that because it has different characters for each show. A third season has been green lit and I can't wait to see how this season ends and how season 3 goes.

Right now, I am watching Dexter season 5 and I am loving it.

Dexter is a show that I have been watching since season 2 but I stopped watching a few episodes into season 5. Truth of the matter is that I don't actually know why I stopped. I enjoyed watching the first few episodes but when I saw that it was airing again, I just made the conscious decision not to watch. Really, I think it came down to wanting to watch it without any interruptions and that meant leaving it until the DVD came out. Fortunately, my Mum also loves the shows and bought the DVD. She loved the show and watched it all last night and this morning. Giving it to me, I knew that I would do the exact same thing. So far today, all I have did is watch Dexter and I don't regret it.

Dexter, I think, is one of the best shows on the box but I get annoyed with constantly living on the edge with his lifestyle. I suppose it is one of the charms of the show but sometimes it becomes a chore. Having to go episode to episode realising that Dexter will almost get caught, only to work his magic at the very last second is a little repetitive. Still, this season has been amazing so far and I think everyone should check it out if you haven't already.

I actually just watched the entire 5th season in one sitting this past Sunday. I downloaded every season on Monday and watched it all front to back last week. I had always heard so many good things about it so I finally got around to acquiring it. It is fucking awesome. The plot twists and turns are awesome. The 4th Season Finale is clear evidence of this as I honestly believe it's the best swerve I've ever seen.

Currently, I am watching a new show on Comedy Central called Sports Show With Norm McDonald. I'm assuming it's a replacement for the failed Onion SportsDome, but it's not whole lot better. You can tell that Norm is trying the best he can and he actually does have a clue what he's talking about, but a lot of the jokes just fall flat. A show like this could really work if they had a smart writing staff.

Hey Arnold. I started watching it on Netflix for the nostalgia factor, but it's actually really good. Helga is one of the most interesting character in cartoon history, if not television history. Her crush on Arnold is so mature, and yet it's just a 4th grade crush. She acts as if the world would be over if anyone were to ever find out, but in all reality she would probably stop liking him in about a month.

It's also really funny, almost satirical of sitcoms and how perfectly things work out. You wouldn't have known it when you watched it as a kid, but it definitely jokes about how situations seem to play out on television. For example, there's an episode where Arnold's friend Ernie wants Arnold to help him tear down his 500th building, but Arnold's grandma wants Arnold to help her save it. When Arnold goes to tell Ernie he can't help him tear down the building, Ernie interrupts Arnold by telling him that he's like a son. Absolutely hilarious.

RedEye on FoxNews is my current new favorite show. It's a hip and edgy version of current events and they have guest hosts on frequently. Jamey Jasta from Hatebreed made an appearance on the show and he was pretty damn funny. If you're interested in what's going on in the world around you, but want it done in a fashion that's urban and culturally relevant, I'd highly suggest watching RedEye.

I know out here in California it airs at about 1 AM.

Other than that, my usual shows: The Ultimate Fighter, Chuck, HIMYM, Mad Love, Criminal Minds (both), Law and Order (both), Kitchen Nightmares, CSI, Breakout Kings, Secret Millionaire, Undercover Boss, and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

I have been watching the new Law & Order: LA. I decided to give it a try a few weeks ago since I've been watching Law & Order Special Victims Unit for a long time. So far it isn't as good as SVU but it's growing on me because of having cool main characters and some decent plots in the episodes, thus I now DVR it each week. I've also been watching Dexter, which quickly became one of my favorite shows. You find yourself rooting for Dexter as he is a bit of an antihero. I have some catching up to do there though. Can't wait to get into season 5!

So now I'm watching another new Comedy Central show called Workaholics and like the new Norm McDonald show, it's not all that good. They're only 2 episodes in and already they're reaching for some ridiculous plots while supplying really sup bar juvenile jokes. Normally I'm ok with that but it really doesn't work here. There are a few funny lines and moments here and there but for the most part, it's pretty weak.

This will probably be canceled within the next month or so. I'd give it a pass.

Have a lot of stuff on the go right now but I'll touch on the few that I really enjoy.

Sons of Anarchy
I just finished the first two seasons of this show and I've got to say, it's great. All the actors to a fantastic job portraying bikers and you can tell show creator Kurt Sutter did his due diligence when researching for this show because everything is spot on. One thing about this show I truly love is the use of music. I've never seen any form of media whether it be a movie, TV show or video game use it in such a perfect and timely way. Anyone who likes TV should check this show out.

Dexter
I absolutely love this show as I can see some others in this thread also do. One of the most interesting concepts on TV today in my opinion, getting to look inside the head of a sociopath/serial killer is a scary/fun thing to do. Michael C. Hall brings the perfect mix of emotionless/emotional you can possibly get and the curve balls they throw at you out of nowhere are always fun.

Comedies
Huge fan of the Thursday NBC line-up. Parks and Recreation, the Office, Community and even Perfect Couples when it was still on always peaked my interest. It will be interesting to see where the Office goes without Steve Carrell but I think they'll be able to sustain viewership for a couple of solid seasons after his departure.

I could go on and on about this as I watch a lot and have watched a lot of TV recently. Just seems like no matter what networks are producing top quality shows recently and now we have the luxury of having too many good shows to watch which is never a bad thing.

TNT just started replaying Season 2 of Men of a Certain Age so I'm going to try to catch them all on tiVo after watching Season 1 on Netflix. The show isn't really the best at anything, it isn't the funniest show I watch, the most dramatic show I watch, or the best written show I watch, but it has something to it that I keep coming back for. There was one episode of the first season that was brilliant, but I don't really relate to most of the stories because I'm not yet that certain age.

However I'm really loving Season 2 of Justified right now, almost (ALMOST!) fills the gap left by Terriers in my "can't wait each week" viewing.

Big Bang Theory is the shizzle. I didnt really watch it before but I decided to sit down and watch it one night. Its actually a really good show. :evil3:

Family Guys the shit aswell. Doesn't need any explanation. Its Family Guy.:worship:

2 and a half men is good aswell. It has Charlie Sheen in it. Nuff said.:cuss2:

Warning- :spam4:
:007:
Smilie 007 FTW

I'm currently watching House, and I'm upset that Masters left the show. It was a rare situation where a new character played by what is essentially a recurring cameo is actually a good character. I enjoyed Amber Tamblyn immensely. She played the character so well, and I really hope she comes back later on down the road.

I'm also watching Kitchen Nightmares, but it's only set to record to hold me over until Hell's Kitchen comes back on.

Of course, I'm going to be watching True Blood and Dexter when they come back on, even though Dexter had the worst season finale I've probably ever seen in a TV show, ever.

I want to try to get into Doctor Who, but I have no idea where to start. I'm afraid I'm going to get sucked way into it, and develop a compulsion to watch all seven THOUSAND seasons of that fucking show.

Of course, I'm going to be watching True Blood and Dexter when they come back on, even though Dexter had the worst season finale I've probably ever seen in a TV show, ever.

Really? What was so bad about that season finale?

Anyway, I'm currently watching American Dad. It's basically Family Guy Lite, but I still enjoy watching it. The plots are nothing short of idiotic, but if you're watching any Seth MacFarlane project intending on seeing superb writing, I have to question your intelligence. I watch it for the jokes and nothing else.

Really? What was so bad about that season finale?

Things were wrapped up entirely too nicely for what was the biggest clusterfuck of shit happening the show has ever seen. Getting away with the murder of Robocop AND Zero Cool in the span of about 20 minutes (while the goddamn cops were investigating) was horrendously unbelievable, and the reasoning behind Deb not finding out about Dexter was three different kinds of ******ed. Lumen leaving was just the straw that broke the camels back. The end of that season might as well have been the introduction to season 1, with absolutely zero tension or plots going into the next season.

To weigh in on the conversation being had, Dexter's been creatively stagnant for years now in my book. The show-runners have clearly settled into their commercially successful formula and aren't willing to take any risks like Deb finding out or Dex being forced to go on the run. Sure, they killed off a supporting character in Rita who nobody liked anyway. Big fucking deal. The shock over that essentially inconsequential move overshadowed what was a mediocre season, the flaws of which already had to be covered up by Hall and Lithgow chewing scenery. For me, the showed peaked at season two and hasn't had a season I really enjoyed since three. It was a fun ride but having accepted the show it's become, I'm not particularly interested at this point. It shocked me this past season how nutless a cable show with a serial killer protagonist can be.

What am I watching right now?

-Deadwood is running from the beginning on HBO Canada right now. That's always a good watch. Al Swearengen letting motherfucking ********ers know what's what in a very well constructed genre show is better than almost anything you'll find on TV these days.

-I'm starting to find my bearings with Game Of Thrones. The second half of the last episode was cooking with gas. Once I know all the characters and their relationships, I reckon I'll really like that show.

-Treme is back for its second season. Infinite charm as always. It's still that wonderful show where nothing much seems to happen. Still, with David Simon on board you're bound to appreciate the journey.

-Community has some of the most innovative comedy I've seen on network TV in ages and does heart with more authenticity than you'd expect from a sitcom. Heck, it does heart with more authenticity than most dramas out there. That's a group of characters I truly enjoy spending time with.

-Parks & Recreation is out-Officing the best years The Office ever had. The disillusioned viewership of that dated franchise should really jump ship.

Lots of good fun to be had on the small screen. None of which is Dexter.

I suppose I'm just easier to please than you guys. I have found the entire Dexter series highly entertaining. I honestly just downloaded all of the seasons a couple of weeks ago and I sat and watched the entire series within a week. Some seasons are better than others, not going to argue that, but I've seen way stupider season finales than what was in the 5th season of Dexter.

Oh, and I'm currently watching Mike & Mike In The Morning on ESPN2. It's the simulcast of the radio show they have on every morning and I've always been a fan. There's usually nothing on in the mornings and since I just hate watching Sportscenter these days, it's a good way for me to keep up on my sports news.

I neglected to mention in my last post that I'm also watching The Killing. Not really worth bragging about anyway. The show is pretty mediocre. Too slow for my liking. And not in the same way that Treme does it. That's a show with great atmosphere telling a larger story about how people and communities are on the rebound. I don't expect a whole world of plot advancement from that. It takes a different set of viewing muscles than The Killing, where the plot stuff is stretched out far too much an nothing else is really clicking, be it the predictable, paint-by-numbers writing, the cardboard cutout characters, or the cliched grief and conflicts stemming from the murder. Slow works for Treme as that has a lot going for it. This show doesn't. The Killing definitely doesn't have my seal of approval. Not entirely sure why I'm gutting it out at this point.

Yeah, I think you are right to some degree. My opinion on Dexter is generally favourable but there just isn't enough to go get me excited right now. I mean, when you look at it, Quinn was the closest to finding out that Dexter was a serial killer and then he just gave up halfway through his investigation. I know that he was diverted off of the trail but now he knows that Dexter is a murderer and nothing is ever going to come of it. Dexter has dirt on Quinn and the same goes for Quinn. I suppose it might be fun to see how that relationship evolves in the next season of the show.

The fifth season just didn't have enough tension of Dexter getting caught and that is why it is exciting, I will give you that. As I said, Quinn got the closest and now it is a dead end. I think in the next season, we are going to go back to the same formula as the second season but I can't be sure. One can hope though.

This is the show with Aziz Ansari, right?

I am a big fan of Ansari and I was wondering if this show was worth catching. Maybe I will give it a go and see what it is like. With Ansari included, it ought to be pretty damn imprssive.

I am not saying that I disliked the season because I really enjoyed it. In fact, I thought that it was better than some of the seasons. That being said, it was missing something. I thought the way they got rid of the children problem for Dexter seemed a little ridiculous but it worked for the concept of the show. Still, I think that Dexter has a little way to go until it is back at it's best. It'll get there though hopefully.

I think you're misunderstanding. There's was plenty of tension last season. Quinn found out Dexter was a murderer, Deb got close and it seemed her character was being primed to learn the secret all season long, the cops showed up when Dex and Lumen were following that blood trail, and RoboCop even got Dex in the back of his van. There were plenty of close calls. That said, the tension feels canned at this point, something you don't want. Nothing is hitting home because they've cried wolf to many times. Even if the next season is like the second, we've already had plenty of close calls since that first bout with the FBI. Does anyone believe anything new will come of it? The show needs to legitimately evolve rather than simply teasing it.

Yep, he's in it. He even had a pretty good showcase this past week. That said, avoid the entire first season and some of the early parts of the second. The show takes a while to get itself going.

Yeah, I think you have hit the nail on the head there. You actually said what I was thinking better than I could. You are right, the tension does feel canned at this point. Dexter has been in so many close calls with the police and the people around him, it is hard to believe anything different than he is going to find a way out of it. What annoys me the most about Dexter is how stupid some of the characters seem to be. Speaking of the blood-trail with Lumen, why did no one question why Dexter's car was there and he just happened to stumble upon a find inside of a place that it took the detectives a couple of minutes to find? Yet, he just happens to find it right off of the bat? That seemed ludicrous to me and the fact that no one questioned it might have been more of an insult.

But, in saying that, there is no way that Dexter should go on the run or anything else. The fact is that when Dexter gets found out, then the show ends. There is no way that the show can be successful without some of the facets of the show that make it great. The relationship with Dexter and the continual teasing of getting caught is what keeps people interested and if he was to run away, then he is running away from all of the things that people are tuning in to see.

I honestly don't know where Dexter goes from here but him getting found out is not the way to progress. Unless, of course, they are looking to end the show.

Why does everyone keep telling me that running is a show ender? It's not. He changes his look, settles down somewhere new, and starts all over again. It could be a lot of fun, it would give the dire, lifeless supporting cast some new blood (because Hall shouldn't be carrying the show on his own). But not only that, being straight wanted and attempting to recapture his anonymity is a challenge Dexter has yet to face. Sure, his crimes have been in the limelight. But an all-out manhunt is one of those few serial killer things the show hasn't given us. Why not? The only other somewhat satisfying thing the show can do at this point is let Deb in on the secret and let the chips fall where they may. The show as we know it is over in both situations, but not the show altogether. And considering how bored I've been with them spinning their wheels in recent years, I'm willing to lose the show as I know it.

Given the MASSIVE game changers I've seen on AMC's two best dramas in recent years, I refuse to believe ANYTHING isn't on the table. If you back yourself into a corner creatively, there's a problem.
