The PS3 is better, but it will only manifest itself in exclusive games. Publishers are historically reluctant to alienate half of their market by making a game that doesn't work properly on one console. I got bought a 360 when I got my A-Levels 4 years ago, and in the first three years it broke twice, one time was two weeks after the warranty ended, so I replaced it, not wanting to buy all the games again. Personally, I prefer the XBox through familiarity and I like the controller better and, ironically, because my PS2 broke and I never really forgave Sony, but the objective better console is the PS3. If they are the same price, I'd recommend the PS3.

Easiest way to combat it is when finished playing leave it on for a few minutes before turning it off, also keep it well ventilated.

I own a PS3, and I also own a broken down 360 until I get the funds to purchase a new one. That being said, it really depends on the exclusives each brings to the table as well as online play. The 360 has the superior online gaming as well as a better online store in my opinion. However the PS3 has the nice Blu Ray drive, the hardware is superior and better built. Price wise a 360 arcade is $199 while a new PS3 will run you close to $299 for a new PS3 Slim.

I think the 360 has more/possibly better exclusives at the moment, but the PS3 is definitely getting it's share of awesome titles. I think in the very near future the PS3's collection of games will be better than the 360's. And I'm not a fanboy of either I just like to game.

Basically I agree with everything Tasty said here. Including replacing my broken 360 because I have too many games to try and repurchase for the PS3.

If you play online at all, your decision should be based on which system do most of the people you know own. I own both systems I partake in a pretty large amount of online gaming, and I have a good 25 friends that own a 360 and about 4 that own a PS3. Each system has it's own fair share of exclusives, but I own about 60 X360 games and 10 PS3 games. Just my opinion.

Don't buy a 360 unless you're a shoot-em-up obsessive who likes only have a working console for 8 months out of every year. We had a poll on another site where we collated how often these machines broke down. The 360 had an 80% failure rate.
I've got a PS3 and I love the machine. It's a great improvement on the failure that was the PS2.

I've had my Xbox for about 17½ month and it hasn't failed yet.

I have a Wii right now only to mix things up. It's cool but honestly the only titles I'm interested in are the big Nintendo names; the Mario's, the Zelda's and so on. I decided to switch it up after my third 360 got the red ring. I was thinking about going for the PS3but they didn't have any in stock when I went so I just said fuck it and bought the Wii.

What on fucking EARTH? I have had one for 6 years, one of the initial issue ones, and it never fucked up on me. the 360 breaks all the time thing is a myth, after the first year initial issue ones.

To be fair, I don't think you use yours as much as most people.

I've had my 360 since 2007 and I play it everydayish and it hasn't died on me. I like the PS3 just so I can play MLB: The Show. I have a 360 and PS3 and I like my 360 better, but the PS3 is good too.

Well i could introduce you to 30 people who do, and who have also never been a problem. Me and everyone i know with a 360 react with great confusion with all this 360 witch hunting. Maybe we just got the nice ones on the east coast?

Honestly I believe one of the problems with the 360 and the red ring to be with the controllers. I used to leave mine on my bed all the time and would accidentally turn the console on with them and not realize it. I would stay at my ladies over the weekend, come home on monday and realize that it was on the whole weekend. It happened multiple times. Pretty sure that's what caused the over heating which I believe is the main cause of the red ring.

Or maybe you know how to look after them. RROD is pretty much eliminated with the newer models, if you keep it ventilated/extra fan not a problem at all.

I had two PS2s break on me.

Only console I've had break on me was my DreamCast

the 360 overheating can be solved with a simple fan on the back of it. but the choice is ps3 because it does so much more than the 360 for less. i love my PS3 and i also love playing 360 at my friends but to me the PS3 is better
