WCW did make stars

One thing I think needs to be remembered is don't confuse NWA stars with WCW stars. Flair was an NWA star who became a WCW star by default - WCW didn't create him. That takes away a lot of these WCW stars as the company didn't create them, in a way they created WCW.

I do agree that it depends on your definition of stars. Even though he was a multitime champ, I wouldn't call Jeff Jarrett a star from WCW and I am a fan of his. For me, probably the only 2 star WCW really made were Goldberg and DDP. These are guys WCW really got behind and pushed, made an effort to make them seem as important as Hogan or Savage. Having said that, I think a number of guys got themselves over - WCW didn't make them stars, they made themselves stars in WCW. Jericho is a great example - WCW didn't want to push him but he got over with the audience so much that him going to WWF was a big deal. If he wasn't a star, would WWF have started him in a program with The Rock right away? Booker T is another of those guys. The fans got behind him long before WCW did. Same with Steiner. Only reason WCW did push them was because the guys they were pushing weren't getting good reactions anymore so they pushed these guys since the crown was behind them. But it wasn't that WCW decided they were star material and made them stars, they got themselves over despite WCW. To me, that is the big difference and so I can't disagree when people say WCW never made any stars because they didn't - had they made stars, it wouldn't have been a big deal when guys like Hogan were off tv because they would have had guys to fill the gap.

Hogan, certainly with the heel turn. But no way Piper or Savage. Piper did his worst mic work in WCW, and was dire in the ring for his whole tenure. Savage had a great 97, but he wasn't doing anything too different from his previous heel work, and 1998 onwards wasn't very pretty.

Agreed on Piper. But Savage? At the very least, they let him wrestle again. I'll never understand why Vince put him on ice at the time that he did. The guy goes from WWF champion in September 1992 to Jerry Lawler status of full-time commentator and only occasional wrestler status by like January '93? Just like that? It made no sense, as he was still one of their best wrestlers and was their biggest star after the Ultimate Warrior got himself fired in the midst of their partnership.

While his '95 and '96 weren't anything special, it was better than him being wasted on commentary as he was still a good wrestler.

And his WCW run would've been worth it just for the DDP feud alone, which was one of the best feuds of Savage's amazing career AND it really put DDP on the map and made him a star.

Steiner was barely mobile by the time he got to the WWF as a singles... the guy had to be in a hot shower for over an hour to do a match and had permanent dropfoot... not your main event guy. And that's before you take into account that he TURNED DOWN a push in 94 to be a heel and go against Bret and Nash etc cos they didn't want Rick... and both left... He was lucky to EVER be rehired.

Woah.....really? Never heard that before.

If true, that's a shame. As great as the Steiner Brothers were, they didn't accomplish much after '94.

And Scott was INCREDIBLE around that time, and a Bret Hart-Scott Steiner feud would've been so awesome in the mid 90's(before Scott got too big and couldn't move anymore).

It was why Vince signed them to begin with - remember how Scott suddenly got the TV title right before he left? that was WCW trying to counter... Scott wanted a big push, but wanted Rick to also get one... Vince didn't want Rick AT ALL once Scott had gone over him and that was why they left. Remember how Rick seemed to get pushes in WCW after that he didn't quite match? Same thing...

Can't blame Scott really, Rick was there first and got him his break - but it was a big error in judgement all told.

As for Savage - A lot of his "benching" had to do with his mental state after his split with Liz, he was not in a good place at all (and this is where the rumored Steph stuff also allegedly happened), for a guy famously so "wound up", having him in the ring might have been a little dangerous if someone accidentally stiffed him etc. Vince saw it as a chance to "cut ties with the Hogan era" which of course was ironic as Hulk was back 3 months later - then so was Savage...

Vince was seriously starting to look at bringing Rude back, so perhaps his plan was to keep Savage to put him over.

WCW made:
- Sting
- Goldberg
- Vader
- Diamond Dallas Page
- Lex Luger
- Booker T
- Scott Steiner
- Etc

They made plenty of stars, but to the victors go the spoils. And re-writing history is one of them.
