Wade Barrett's Back And "Open For Business"

Uncle Sam

Rear Naked Bloke
Gotta say - I'm pretty astonished that there isn't a thread on this anyway, if only because people seem so keen to tear into the new theme music. Here, photographic evidence that Mr. Barrett is back:

Barrett looks good. I'm digging the beard, I'm digging the tape on his fists, I'm digging the renewed emphasis on his "bareknuckle" backgrounds, I'm even digging the new t-shirt - the first time he's had one which looks more attractive than your mother's clunge. I'm digging it all, daddio. He seems to be a bit leaner and more muscular than last we saw him. These are the things I pay attention to.

Oh, and yes, naysayers, I'm even digging the new theme. Well, to an extent. Open up your earholes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2YNQu0NWpQ&t=15s (Not the official version but the closest I can get without posting the entire match from YouTube)

I'm sorry your expectations of 90s Britpop were disappointed, but it's not exactly the atrocity that it's been painted at. All those Corre remixes were infinitely shitter.

Sheamus is obviously in desperate need for someone other than Alberto Del Rio to feud with. Enter Wade Barrett.

Yes, please, ANYONE but ADR. He's awful.

However, I don't forsee Wade Barrett in the WHC picture quite yet simply because he made light of it by saying "if I'm not fighting for the WHC, then I'm open for business," or something like that. Sounds to me like he's a gun for hire basically.

As much as I don't like ADR, his character of a rich, Mexican Aristocrat makes the most sense to "hire" Barrett to take out Sheamus. Still seems very sudden though to thrust him into the main event that quickly though. More light will likely be shed next week on this.

Considering he's been out for months and WWE expect big things of him they must've hoped for a stronger reaction. Then again, Barrett hasn't given people to care about him in nearly two years.

A Barrett/Sheamus feud is mildly more appealing that Sheamus/ADR. I suspect that's where they'll go next. Only problem being Del Rio will win the title off Sheamus next week so it'll be a mid-card feud. And in the eventuality Sheamus retains the title, Barrett will be the one to take it off him.

Barrett as champion means one thing: Another Randy Orton feud.

Also, saying "open for business" is a little bit fruity. He's not a shop now, is he! What part of him is open, seriously?

I think Barrett should have debuted on NXT in his current form, though his personality was more interesting before. Now, he's all serious and serious wrestlers like Daniel Bryan are boring. CM Punk somehow can take his boring personality and still be interesting, however. I wish to see Barrett become the CM Punk of Smackdown. He should hold the WHC and criticize everyone's abilities and demand respect out of the WWE.

He said he was "Open for Business"

That came across to me as He will be "moving" to Raw and challenging Punk for the title in HIAC and then being thrown straight into the World Title picture and he will win before the turn of the year, probably Survivor Series

Wade Barrett's return was lackluster... he really should have come back and attacked someone to get into a feud instead of essentially re-debuting him. His new, slightly tweaked character is interesting though.

I think saying that he's "open for business" is going to be taking any challengers from the locker-room, possibly. That way, it gives him something to do while waiting for the opportunity to make a run for the title.

However, he really needs to do something to make him more of a heel... give him a mic spot, let him cut a promo and let the crowd get the chance to give a shit.

His reaction on Smackdown wasn't there, but I think much of the crowd wasn't sure if he was going to be a face or heel, and wanted to see what he did.

When he said hes open for buisiness i think he will be hired to take out sheamus for ziggler to win the world title or even del rio i mean lets face it sheamus is not going to drop the title cleanly to either Dolph or Alberto and the only way for Dolph to win the title is to have Wade Barrett attack and take Sheamus out long enough for Dolph to win the world title and return to feuding with Sheamus

I am really excited for Wade Barrett to be back on Smackdown. While even as a fan of his, I have to admit that he was starting to become a bit stale in the ring. Hopefully this little tweak is enough to bring back the promise he had as the leader of The Nexus. I'm fine with his new entrance music, and I think his new look with the beard does make him look more badass. There are three things I'm hoping they do with Barrett-

1. Don't rush him back into the WHC picture. I know alot of people are looking for people to feud with Sheamus, but I believe a feud between Barrett and Sheamus can be held off if they give Ziggler the belt at Night of Champions via Money in the Bank contract. Sheamus can remain busy with Ziggler until Survivor Series, and allow Barrett a feud with...

2. Randy Orton. I enjoyed the feud with Orton last year, and unless your name is John Cena (or maybe CM Punk depending on the audience), you're going to be the heel against Orton. This could be a great way to build Barrett back up, especially if they allow him to go OVER Orton in the feud.

3. No short title reign. If Barrett gets the WHC, I hope it's not a quick one month reign. To me, there is nothing worse than a heel being built up only to lose the title quickly (see Alberto Del Rio's two WWE Title reigns in late 2011). Let him hold the title from Survivor Series to Elimination Chamber, where lose the title before WrestleMania without losing to anyone in a normal one on one match.

If all of this happens (of course it won't, it's WWE), then I truly think Barrett can reach his potential that has been lost over the last year or so...

This.

After all those cool promos, he should have returned after or during the upcoming ppv and drilled Sheamus with some sort of beare knuckle punch. Sheamus has been made to look the ultimate brawler, but then Barrett could look to show he is not the only one who can get the job done.

Lackluster was indeed the word after such great videoes. I guess WWE once again is brilliant at hype, and hopeless with pay off once again.

Im not sure the pay off won't be there. Yes the intially reaction is that this is bad but i think he'll do some thing meaningful within the next to weeks.

I wouldn't be suprised if he attacks Sheamus at night of champion and Ziggler cashes in. or maybe even alligns himself with Heyman and Punk.

Just hoping that they have a plan for him and it's not just Tatsu and Ryder for him.:icon_neutral:

Everything new about BARRETT I love. The music still isn't great but ALOT better.

My problem is his booking.

Wade Barrett's Back And "Open For Business"
Your title suggests a talent that had an impactful return & is ready to start destroying everyone.

But someone could have missed 5 MINUTES of Smackdown & missed his WHOLE re-debut.

While I am happy he looked dominant. A less than 2 minute match against Yoshi Tatsu is hardly anything! He just showed up in the middle of Smackdown (which I believe his videos stopped playing recently) for a qucik squash & leaves.
No big return?!?!
No awesome return promo?!?
And not even re-debut him on RAW?!?!?!?!

It just seems like they repackaged him in a very cool way, set up these awesome vignettes for him, AND..........................Throw him to the Mid-card on Smackdown.

It has only a week so I am just hoping they are doing a "slow & steady wins the race" deal.

I was not impressed with Wade Barrett's return. It was lackluster. There was no flair. I hate the new theme song. I probably would have liked this a little more if it was his "End of Days" theme song again. That song always made him look cooler. I do like his bare-knuckle emphasis, but he should have returned against someone with more star power. Beating Yoshi Tatsu felt like he was stating that he was back in the Mid-Card, even if he addressed his intentions after the match. Yoshi Tatsu should just leave WWE. Horrible opponent. Anyway, hopefully Wade has more in his move repertoire as he competes against big names again. The serious attitude tweak is alright I guess. He should use that elbow smash to knock out Randy Orton next week.

Let's give it a chance. It's true Wade's return didn't have the fanfare one might expect, given that most folks seem to expect WWE to feature him prominently now that he's back. Still, the "fight club" theme he's adopting doesn't lend itself to bells and whistles; it's more a plain, basement-dwelling common man identity that's as simple as it is brutal. I don't recall any other wrestler using this persona before and am anxious to see what Wade can do with it.

This guy inspires interest, a quality most performers don't possess. There's a reason Wade was the leader of Nexus rather than any of the other guys. The injury he suffered came at a most inopportune time, as it seemed he was being boosted to feature status when it happened. He needs a little time to build back to where he was.....and I think he's well worth the wait. It won't be long.

Some people here think Barrett should have come out and won both belts while curing cancer. What expectations do you have for the guy? Give him time, I know that I wouldn't necessarily want to go out and light the world on fire in my first return after suffering an injury. There is nothing wrong with showing some dominance and making a quick statement. Some would say that is pretty cool.

Plus remember, Wade is one WWE's best heels. He shouldn't be going out there and doing things that please you. That is the job of Santino and Ryder - do you want Barrett to become Santino or Ryder?

I've got to leave to see Dredd in a few minutes so I'll be quick with my whole incredulity bit. None of you should watch Dredd - watch The Raid instead.

Your title suggests a talent that had an impactful return & is ready to start destroying everyone.

My title would suggest that Wade Barrett came back and said he was "open for business." Which he did.

Now, he's all serious and serious wrestlers like Daniel Bryan are boring.

Serious wrestlers like Daniel Bryan?

Why, he's drier than Oscar Wilde after a sunny day!

GSB seems to have the right idea. There's nowt wrong with keeping Barrett on the backburner for a little bit. I'm not too high on Barrett when it comes to his in-ring stuff (though he's shown moments of brilliance) but he definitely has the right instincts. And perfect diction.

I've always wanted to reply to this thread ever since this was posted, but I never had the chance to do so until now, due to being so damn busy at work yesterday. Anyway, let's get right to it, shall we?

I'm even digging the new theme.

By "new theme", I hope you mean his entrance video and not his entrance music. While his new entrance video is totally bad-a**, his current entrance music is still pretty much the same music as his last one before his injury, only that it started on the verse-like part of the song and not the chorus-like part. At least, that's what I carefully listened to when I played his entrance theme on WWE.com.

Anyway, I still prefer the latest remix of End of Days as his entrance music than Just Don't Care Anymore. It makes him sound like he's the ultimate bad guy or something.

I'm with you though with everything else, from Barrett's new beard to his bareknuckle background.
Wade Barrett's return was lackluster... he really should have come back and attacked someone to get into a feud instead of essentially re-debuting him. His new, slightly-tweaked character is interesting though.

Lackluster was indeed the word after such great videoes. I guess WWE once again is brilliant at hype, and hopeless with pay-off once again.

Like SuperKick36 and GrandSword, I too feel that Barrett's return was lackluster. He should've indeed jumped on someone to really get everybody's attention. Feeding him to Yoshi Tatsu in an announced Smackdown Match didn't scream hype to me. If anything, it killed a lot of his momentum coming back, with all the cool vignettes that we've been getting.

I will, however, heed your advice by giving Barrett's reintroduction a chance. It's still too early to give a final rating on his return. I know that he's well-worth the wait. I just hope you're right when you say "it won't be long".

Open is just so damn fruity, yes. But I like the man's new look and persona. Now I am not absolutely not keen on him feuding with Sheamus because their segements will be awful.

Sheamus is as entertaining in his segment as a one-legged wallaby (okay that sounds more exciting) but you know what I mean. The thing is Barrett is damn sharp and witty. Some of his excerpts from his time doing commentary at FCW was brill. Here, however he is this sombre hombre who would sit on Sheamus's face before cracking a joke.

I don't see any good here unless some could talk more entertainingly.

I'm hoping that the promo Barrett gave after the match is part of a bigger angle which will see him pushed to the main event.

If I recall correctly, Barret demanded that he be placed in the World Title picture very soon, or he would be doing something about it. This seems to me that Barret could be placed in a few more squash matches, leading to him eventually come in during or after a WHC match and beat the crap out of the guys involved. That's just my thoughts on what might happen, but knowing WWE they'll probably screw his return up somehow.

Also, I think people may be taking his 'Open for Business' line too literally. I think he was just saying that he's back and ready to kick ass, not that he's actually for hire APA style.

Now that Barrett's back, hopefully he has a new finisher. The Wasteland should be used as a set-up move ONLY, the Winds Of Change is another good set-up move. Barrett should really use his bare-knuckle fighting past to his advantage.

His matches should be won by "referee stoppage" after he incessantly beats down his opponent with punches/kicks/elbows/headbutts/knees, etc to get over his legit fighting past. Barrett should use lots more punching combinations/ full on brawling and claim that no-one in the company including Big Show can out-punch him.

Also, he should definitely go after Sheamus. I'd love to see a long-term Sheamus/Barrett feud
