Using "gay" as an insult

Gay doesn't mean homosexual anymore.

That statement brings to mind Gay Brewer, a golfer from the 60's and 70's. He went through life with that name (Gay Robert Brewer Jr.) He was born in 1932, long before the word came to mean what it does today.

Then again, that's not the only word who's meaning has been altered to suit the times. After all, in the 70's, there was a candy used for weight reduction that called itself "Ayds." For some reason, they changed the name of the product.

There was/is a player on the Patriots with the last name Gay. His name escapes me. But I always wanted to get one of his jerseys.

Gay doesn't mean homosexual anymore. Nobody actually thinks that it's homosexual that the shop has run out of bread, but they might still say "oh, that's gay".

^^

This, it's a perfect example of language development. Gay started off as happy, then homosexual and now something not cool. Kind of like how sick is used as a good thing now, and wicked was used as a good term in the early 00's
