Undertaker and Stone Cold at WrestleMania 2000

Ok, most people aren't big fans of WrestleMania 2000 for a number of reasons. Things like most of the matches were tag matches, the only one on one match was Terri vs The Kat, and Rock didn't win the title. I personally loved the event, but that's besides the point. Most people kept saying, the event would've been a lot better if Austin and Undertaker were around.

In September 1999, Undertaker "walked out" on McMahon because he was taken out of the 6 pack challenge at Unforgiven. I still don't know the real reason. I heard stories about a groin injury and another story about handling a divorce settlement.

Austin of course had to take off for neck surgery which led to the "Who ran over Stone Cold?" storyline.

Now, let's jus say both these men were around by the time of WrestleMania 2000.

What match do you think they would've been in?

What would you have done?

Me personally, since Austin/Rock/HHH didn't happen at Survivor Series, THAT match woulda been my WrestleMania main event. Triple H was the dominant champion during the McMahon-Helmsley Era, Rock was gettin more and more popular and Austin of course was Austin so he was always popular. Would've been an awesome match. Still mad we still didn't see that match down the road.

As for The Undertaker, I woulda had him face The Big Show. They looked as though they were headed on the outs and Show was gettin more vicious thanks to The Undertaker. This would've made a great feud.

Discuss.

I agree the main event probably would have been Austin/HHH/Rock and Taker/Show the semi main event. I did want to see Triple H vs Rock one on one for the title. It would obviously leave an odd man out in the main event picture. Maybe someone from Angle,Y2J, Benoit would have been pulled into the main event scene for a big match. I personally didnt like the show, mainly the reason you brought up, no one on one matchs. I think Taker and Austin were a big reason this is not one of the more memorable matchs.

There are a few options here that I would like to list out.

Option 1
6-Pack Challenge for the WWE Championship
Triple H vs. The Rock vs. Mick Foley vs. The Big Show vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. The Undertaker
The one aspect of this match that I found interesting is that there was a McMahon in every corner. Adding Austin and Taker to this match would have certainly removed that factor.

Option 2
Grudge match and a Tag Team match
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Rikishi
Brothers of Destruction vs. D-Generation X (X-Pac and Road Dogg)
Revenge. Rikishi ran over Austin, so that explains that. Since DX had been feuding with Kane, who better than Big Brother to take on a couple of bullies.

Option 3
2 Triple Threat match
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Triple H vs. The Rock
Undertaker vs. Mick Foley vs. The Big Show
The Main Event everyone wanted to see paired up with the Main Event that everyone would have wanted to see. I would even step it up a notch and have the winners of both matches face each other for the WWE Championship.

Option 4
Hell In A Cell match
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. The Undertaker
I’m 88% sure we wouldn’t even have a WM Streak if this match took place, but what a match this would have been.

I would have gone with Austin vs Taker and Rock vs HHH as the title match

I think most people get annoyed at WM 2000 because it was clear that Rock vs HHH was the money match

I'm not the world's most prolific contributor to these threads, but I feel completely compelled to weigh in on this one.

I like whoever's comment it was about the 88% chance of the streak ending if they had Austin/Taker, but I don't know about 88% chance.

Wrestlemania 2000 was the first Wrestlemania that I watched since Wrestlemania IX as I took a very long hiatus from watching wrestling, missing most of the Monday night war stuff, and the first half of the Attitude era. I have pretty much always been a WWE / WWF guy and WCW just never really appealed to me. Same could be said for ECW, though I did enjoy both on various occasions.

Anyways, I remember being very disappointed that Undertaker and Austin were seemingly gone with close to no chance of returning anytime soon if ever around that era. I was a huge fan of the Rock/HHH feud though, and Mick Foley is one of my top five fave wrestlers of all time, so having him and Show in the main event at the time seemed like a great way to make it very over the top, plus the McMahon in every corner angle was entertaining, especially the whole Vince knocking out Triple H prior to and then doing the heel swerve at Mania.

All in all, however, that pay per view was a bit disappointing. It was like they just lumped everything together very sloppily, and I don't think anyone I wanted to win won that night. (I was 17 at the time, so was still very much just a fan instead of someone who analyzes the booking, etc.)

Why we never got HHH/Rock/Austin in a triple threat is beyond understanding. And if I'm confessing here, Austin's eventual return was a bit strange in my opinion though it did hatch the 'what' business that almost replaces the Flair Wooooo!!!!! (At the time, I couldn't stand the 'what' promos) Also, someone may correct me on the NEVER having that triple threat match, but I know they never really had it at a major pay per view, though if I'm not mistaken they did put Jericho over on both Rock and Austin which was almost better since I like Y2J more than HHH if I had to vote.

Bottom line: Austin and Taker would have made that mania incredibly better. How they would have booked it we'll never know, but as we all can agree that show needed some tweaking. We did get lucky to get Taker back for as long as we did, and the same could be said for Austin who even though he only gave us around 2-3 more years, that's a hell of a lot for a guy with a surgically repaired neck. But I guess that's the risk of becoming such a fan of such a dangerous artform--'card subject to change' what's really interesting would be to analyze what may have been going on around SummerSlam '99 and how they wanted to move forward from there since I believe that everyone was healthy around then and HBK was even still on TV right before vanishing for a couple years.

I do remember the rest of that year somewhat making up for the very average Wrestlemania as Taker and Austin both returned, and Rikishi main evented a pay-per-view ;) fact check it!!!!!!!

why not austin vs undertaker in the main event. Now i would have this above the current main event because it would feel bigger. But this is only if they had taker run over austin and he returned as american badass ass earlier and turned heel.

So you have taker return at the rumble and then austin return a the night after on raw, and have austin try to find who did it to him until he finds it to be taker at no way out.

If Austin were to face Taker it wouldnt have been main event because the streak wasnt even a big deal back in 2000 what was Taker at that time 6-0?

They wouldnt have put a 6-pack challenge together for a main event at mania thats too much of a clusterfuck for the main event at Mania. The fatal 4-way was hectic enough.

My guess is it would have either been the same card except for Austin vs. Taker added (my guess is wed have no streak today if that match happened) or it would have been Austin/HHH/Rock in the main and Undertaker vs. Big Show as people stated above.

If neither Austin or Taker had left I would of done the following:

At Unforgiven I would of had both Austin and Undertaker as enforcers for the 6 pack challenge.

At No Mercy I would of kept The Rock v Bulldog and Austin v Triple H.

Then the next Raw I would have Austin beat Bulldog and Rock beat Taker for the Triple Threat at Survivor Series.

Survivor Series would see Triple H retain the title. Next night on Raw I would book Rock v Austin and have Rock win (purely to gain revenge for WM15 and Backlash) and to get a title shot on Smackdown, which Triple H wins with interference.

Armageddon would see Triple H v Vince as normal, with the WWF Title on the line, with Triple H wanting revenge for when Vince beat him on Smackdown as well as all the Stephanie stuff. Triple H wins as he did with Steph's help.

Royal Rumble would see The Rock win, eliminating Taker and Austin last and Triple H beating Cactus Jack in a street fight. No Way Out would be Triple H/Cactus Jack in a Hell In A Cell match and a tag match with Rock/Austin v Taker and Big Show.

Wrestlemania would then be Taker v Austin with Taker winning, and Rock would defeat Triple H for the WWF Title.

Backlash would see the Iron Man Match between Triple H and The Rock, with Rock winning and Taker v Austin with Austin winning and Taker then taking a few months off to return at Survivor Series as ABA.

Judgement Day I would have a Fatal 4 Way Elimination match between Triple H, Taker, Austin and Rock with HBK as ref. Taker would then take a few months off to return at Survivor Series as ABA. Would have Rock and Austin as last 2 with Rock winning after both Taker and Triple H interfere and attack both Rock and Austin, then I would set up Rock v Austin for KOTR, and Triple H v Kane.

Fully Loaded would be Benoit v Rock, Triple H v Jericho and Austin v Angle.

Summerslam would be Rock, Triple H and Angle for WWF Title with Austin as ref.

Unforgiven would be Rock, Austin, Angle and Kane for WWF title, and Triple H v Kurt Angle.

No Mercy would see Angle beat Rock, Triple H beat Benoit and Austin beat Kane.

Survivor Series sees ABA return, Angle def Austin for WWF Title and Triple H def Rock.

Armegeddon is 6 man Hell In A Cell with Kane taking Rikishi's place, and Benoit v Billy Gunn with Jericho added for IC title.

After that everything happens as it did.

Depends on what you mean. Do you mean Stone Cold & Taker return after they left in 99 or they never left at all?

If you mean they never left at all then the triple threat between Cold, Rock & HHH would've happened as scheduled at Survivor Series. So I could see one of these four options.

-Taker vs. Austin and the Fatal 4 Way match being the same.

-Or just a little change to the Fatal 4 Way with Austin, HHH, Foley & Rock and Taker vs. Show.

-Austin vs. Taker vs. Foley vs. HHH and Rock vs. Show in a rematch from No Way Out.

-Austin vs. Rock vs. HHH vs. Show and Taker vs. Foley. I would honestly like to say Taker & Foley in their second Hell in a Cell match but Foley had already competed in one the month before, so I doubt it.

If you mean the former then I think it would've been Austin vs. HHH vs. Rock. The 3 top guys of the Attitude Era going at it at the biggest event of them all in the new millenium. It's a shame it never happened. Anyway, with Austin, HHH & Rock in the main event for the WWF Championship, I would say Taker vs. Foley in the co-main event and Big Show faces Rikishi or Kane.

I also like the idea of that 6 Pack Challenge but I don't think it would've happened since they did it a few months before at Unforgiven and like that one person said, it's a clusterfuck which is why I'm hoping an Elimination Chamber match never main events a WM.

Also for the people saying that if Austin faced Taker at WM, Taker wouldn't have a streak...well I think he would. It's not like Austin had never lost to Taker before WM 2000 or at a Wrestlemania, so why wouldn't Austin agree to put over Taker if they faced off at Mania? It's nothing new to him nor would it damage him.

I think they would've done Stone Cold vs. The Undertaker and it would've been the end of the streak (they didn't acknowledge until WMX-7). My guess is they would introduce the idea that Undertaker hasn't lost at WM, thus putting Stone Cold at another disadvantage that he would have to overcome. Stone Cold would've gone over, and every year The Undertaker's match @ WM would be just another match. He probably wouldn't even still be wrestling today (even if is just once a year).

Option 2
Grudge match and a Tag Team match
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Rikishi

Revenge. Rikishi ran over Austin, so that explains that.

Just a heads up: The whole reason Austin was out was because he got ran over. Thus, there would not be anything for him to seek revenge about b/c that storyline would never have existed. And Rikishi was just getting his feet wet w/ Too Cool at the time. EVEN if the WWE decided to run that angle, it would've been way to soon to turn Rikishi. Hell, it was too soon when the turn ACTUALLY happened.
