This upcoming week I will not be here

Luck is for losers. Or so says some guy we both love.

A shame he looks embarrassingly soft on his new DVD cover.

I haven't seen his dvd cover so I don't have an opinion on that.

Do you have his dvd?

Someone has to. Lord knows we'll have to tolerate him as a headliner soon enough, and he certainly isn't going to make it look good.

I cringe at the thought of his world title reign. I mean, I don't particularly dislike Dolph, but I don't exactly like him either. He just seems like more of a mid carder to me.

He has a look, sells, and wrestles the way the internet likes. In the mind of your average smark, being a "total package" and meeting all of the predetermined criteria we have for stardom makes one a star. That's what's at work with Ziggler. People are taking some who's perfectly adequate in many ways and little showy and imagining that makes him main event material. What they've lost sight of is that Ziggler doesn't really have presence. As you alluded to, he's just there. But the internet would rather "think things through" (using that phrase very loosely, as real thought would lead to a different conclusion about Ziggler than the one the internet has reached) than feel. It's asinine. And I'm afraid to imagine the effects it will have on the industry as smarks become more and more common.

Some good has come of them. If they didn't lobby for the people they liked, Punk, Christian, Bryan, and a lot of other guys I liked never would have reached the level they did. So I'm trying to be happy for Ziggler fans. Trying. But if a wrestling company was every booked the way the majority of smarks want it to be booked, it'd be the most tediously boring shit of all time. Think of Ring Of Honor's worst excesses and super serious "let's pretend we're MMA" bullshit with terrible characters. As smarks not only become a larger part of the audience but become decision makers in the business, I really think this shit will be a problem that needs overcoming. Of course at that point, it will once again come down to good natured dissenters restoring balance to the force. That's essentially what Kevin Steen fandom is about in my eyes. It's a protest vote. And there will always be that protest vote when things get bad and the smark vision turns out not to be paradise. So how angry can I be about smarks?

A post like that and I haven't had a drink in three weeks. Who's the man?!
