There should be more emphasis on the World Champion in Wrestling

CelticCorey

Getting Noticed By Management
Ok, I am probably going to get some heat for this. I am fine with that; but the World championship should be the main attraction in the show or the company. It seems to me at times that the world title gets upstaged quite a bit and I cannot understand why.

Let's start off with RAW, where this is my chief complaint. Wait for it...it's all about Cena! "But CelticCorey, Cena is a the top draw...." Yes, I know he is the top draw. He is the face of the company. I understand his importance and that he sells without the championship; but it should be the goal of everybody to become WWE Champion. The guy in my eyes on RAW is the WWE Champion. No matter who it is. It should be about the WWE Champion. Yet, with new WWE Champions like Sheamus and the Miz, we have seen them wrestle in mid card spots a lot of times, unless, wait for it- Cena is with them. There is too much emphasis on Cena. It should be all about the Miz/Lawler feud. That should be at the top of the card, THEN Cena/Nexus. When Cena is in the title picture, THEN you could put the main emphasis on Cena. I hate how the RAW Intro, Cena is shown last. The CHAMPION should ALWAYS be shown last. If it's Cena, it should be Cena. But since it's the Miz, the Miz should be shown last. I mean, Cena is going to draw and sell no matter what, so why not put more emphasis on the WWE Champion? Also, Cena/Barrett closing out TLC instead of Miz/Orton or the Fatal Four Way TLC? Bullshit.

Smackdown- now Smackdown is doing a hell of a job right now. Edge is the World Heavyweight Champion. Great job Smackdown for the main attraction being Edge vs. Ziggler. Edge is the champion, being heavily pursued by upper-midcarder and future main eventer (hopefully) in Dolph Ziggler. What are they doing? They're putting all of the main emphasis on this feud. And that's what it needs to be about.

However, Smackdown has been guilty of this before. Jack Swagger was World Heavyweight Champion last year. He wrestling in the main event sometimes. He would wrestle in the middle of the card. Hell, in the cases with his OUTSTANDING three week feud with John Morrison, he WOULD OPEN THE SHOW!!! What kind of bullshit is that? Swagger is your main guy. Swagger is your champ. Treat him like a champ. And SD should've revolved around Swagger. But no, WHAT DID IT REVOLVE AROUND? MYSTERIO VS. SES. Did either of them hold the belt during that feud? No. Mysterio beat Swagger for the belt; but by that time the SES/Mysterio feud was mostly over.

TNA. Ok, TNA isn't so bad; but during Anderson's one month title reign, he was UPSTAGED by Immortal/Fortune. A lot of guys, I know. It's Immortal this, Immortal that. Jarrett this. Jarrett that. Jarrett, Jarrett, Jarrett. Shoved down our throats. So much emphasis on Jarrett/Angle and Immortal/Fortune regime and then Immortal vs. Fortune. TNA did a hell of a job building up Morgan/Anderson for Genesis. I mean, the last three weeks of Anderson's reign was ok I guess. Since Hardy is champ, I guess there will be more emphasis on the World Champ again, which is unfortunate.

You guys will probably give it to me. How dare I make such a post? But it's the goal of everybody to become a World Champion. They're the top guy. The show should revolve around the champ. That's my opinion.

I love the concept you're presenting, so I'm going to hold as much respect as I can as I break this argument down.

In general: You're right, Miz hasn't been getting his just attention, nor did Swagger, nor did Anderson. I do disagree with one major idea in your concept: That the champion always has to be shown last. I'm not averse to the occasional match where the champ is opening the card. It pumps up the crowd quick and keeps people from turning it during the first hour. I do agree, however, that Cena/Nexus is getting far too much attention, but it adds credence to Miz being a weasel-type champion, so I can somewhat tolerate it.

Swagger's reign: When Swagger won the title, SES/Rey was already the hottest thing going because of how amazingly CM Punk was garnering heat. Even poor Jack Thwagger wouldn't have been able to get over with that hot feud going. I rather liked Swagger opening with Morrison, gave the immediate impression that the whole night was going to be action packed (dear God, WWE lied to us there!).

Miz: Just like Swagger, he won the title when there was already a hot feud going on in WWE. If Cena is involved, then everyone else is going to get dropped a notch. Look at all the times Hogan got the attention (in the 80s/90s) when he wasn't anywhere near the title picture or look at HHH. Hell, Taker overshadows the champion when he's not out recovering. Top draws are going to steal the attention even if they're nowhere near the title and it's up to champions like Miz to steal that attention right back.

Anderson: Let's be honest here- Anderson was never meant to be the focus of TNA. It wasn't really Fortune w/ or vs. Immortal that stole the show. It was RVD wanting to get Jeff Hardy, preferably for the title. Neither one of them deserve the title at this point in time because neither have worked hard enough to deserve it. Kurt/JJ stole spotlight because of the real-life implications. Hell, I'd say that leading up to AAO that Bully Ray/Devon got more attention than Anderson and the Kurt/JJ feud combined.

In conclusion, you can revolve your show around the champion without putting them in a particular spot. However, the tactics to do so haven't really changed since the 80s (even through the attitude era), so it's quite possible that WWE AND TNA need to change up how they present their champion.

i hate when companies just pass around title reigns...to me it lessens the title...but its ok to mix in shorter title reigns take for example in ECW

Bam Bam Bigelow beat Shane Douglas for the World Belt but didnt have a long reign only like a month and Shane won it back in a good match then Shane didnt drop it till a year and 2 months later...

I like how ROH has only had 12 champions in 9 years think that adds something to the belt
