The Sports Bar

Thank God Mike Brown got fired. It took away a lot of the time I'm sure ESPN had devoted to the atrocity that was Thursday night's Jags game.

Also, this is the second coach Dwight Howard has helped get fired this year. As a Magic fan, it makes me happy to see the Lakers struggle like they are.

The Knicks go into San Antonio and defeat the Spurs despite Carmelo going 3-12 from the field and only scoring 9 points. NY is now 6-0 and Mike Woodson has gotten them to play great on both ends of the court. They are the biggest surprise of the early NBA season.

There's really only one logical explanation for their play thus far this season:

Rasheed Wallace isn't the reason they're winning.

The REAL reason the Knickerbockers are winning is because of this:
OLD UNIFORM:

NEW UNIFORM:

THEY AREN'T WEARING BLACK ON THEIR DAMN UNIFORMS ANYMORE. The Knickerbockers colors are Blue and Orange (and white). Don't get me wrong, the orange waistband of the shorts is rather bleh, but these uniforms are 87623489752349867% better then the old ones.

Couple little observations/facts regarding the MVPs. First time MVPs played against each other in the World Series since 1988. Both MVPs won the batting title. I can't tell you the last time that happened but it hasn't happened since I started watching baseball in the mid 80s.

This also reminded me that 2012 is the first time that the AL and NL Cy Young award winners faced off during the season.

RA Dickey outdueled David Price on June 13th. Dickey threw a 1 hitter, and Price got mauled for 7 runs in 5 as the Mets beat the Rays.

Been a while since I came on here, and I figured I share some thoughts on some recent sports news that pertains to my teams.

First off what a ride it was for SF Giants. Don't know how much it got talked about here, but damn that was a hell of a run. Closer is out for the year, Posey comes back from a major injury, the freak doesn't pitch lke the freak and yet they still win the World Series. Great stuff. This team has the makings of a dynasty. Posey is the real deal, Belt is going to continue to improve, as is Crawford. Money is going to come off the books, and they have the best manager in baseball. This team has an opportunity to make a serious run at some more championships.

Also gotta mention the A's real quick. Kept my eye on them as well and what an exciting year they had. Melvin deserved manager of the year for what he was able to do with that team. They have talent as well its just a matter if they are able/willing to keep it.

I am enjoying watching RG3 showcase his talents on my team. I said this when the trade went down and I'll say it again, hands down the best trade the Redskins have made. He has it all. He's accurate, has the arm, is mobile, can hurt you in the pocket as he showed yesterday. And if the Packers take care of business Sunday night, then they have a shot at tying for the division. After everything that has already happened this season, to be in that position is fantastic. Can't wait to see him surrounded with some talent and where he can take the Skins. Finally something to be excited about. Exciting times for my teams at least.

Oh, yea, end the freaking hockey lockout already. Need me some Couture.

In the NFL a player running to the end zone with the ball only has to barely cross the line with the ball even if no part of his body makes it in the end zone to be credited with a touchdown. If a receiver catches the ball while already in the end zone he has to get both feet on the ground in the end zone to be credited with a touchdown. I don't get it.

If a receiver doesn't get both feet down when he's not in the end zone it doesn't count as a completion, why would it be any different in the end zone?

I'm just wondering why someone running to the end zone doesn't have to get any part of his body in there at all but that's not good enough for someone who is already in the end zone.

because he has possession of the ball already. A reception is not made until the ball is controlled and either 2 feet or one body part hit the ground. And he needs to maintain control of the football.

A receiver needs to get his feet down because he needs to achieve possession of the ball. If the receiver catches the ball at the 30 and runs in, he doesn't need 2 feet in the end zone.

Watch that video. Ray Rice is a fucking beast.

Apparently you can have a few massive games, be a freshman QB with a catchy (generic) nickname, and win the Heisman. Who cares if you had shit games and cost your team a couple wins. If he was a sophmore (which technically he is) he wouldn't have won the award.

Fucking hell, they should reclassify the Heisman as an offensive only award. Pathetic.

I'll say it now, there will never be an exclusively defensive player to win the Heisman.

The bitterness is strong with this one, I see. Both were more than deserving, and to say otherwise is insulting to Manziel.

Did you know Manziel lost 2 games, and was the main reason they lost those games? I mean I did just link 3 games in my post. The 2 losses, one of which he threw for 250 yards with 3 picks and didn't run for shit. But no, that's an amazing game and the reason he won the Heisman.

And he is a man of character (which the Heisman does take into consideration), regardless of his arrest.

If he wasn't a freshman, he wouldn't have won. They would have given it to Klein. The anti-defense bias is beyond pathetic.

Manziel isn't the first person to win the Heisman on a team that has more than one loss, and certainly won't be the last. Let's not ignore the fact that he had a better season, statistically, then Tebow and Newton did in their Heisman years. He was damn well deserving and you trying to make excuses that he won it because he was a freshman or that Te'o was on defense screams of sour grapes.

And no, if Manziel wouldn't have won, Te'o would've, seeing as how he finished with the 2nd most points. They were really the only two candidates.

if we're really considering it, I'd argue Jarvis Jones had just as much a reason to be at the Heisman ceremony as Teo.

That said, I'm shocked Klein came in third. He was seen as the best quarterback in football... Could one game really have cost him that much?

Clearly not, since it didn't hurt Manziel AT ALL. And Kleins bad game was better then Manziels.

And Megatron, just because he finished second doesn't mean he would be the winner. The majority of those voters would have flip flopped Klein and Manziel because they don't want a defender to win the award.
