To me I think Palmer is the better move if you think the Raiders think they have a shot at the division. I don't think David Garrard is a playoff-level QB, and I think a motivated Palmer (he hasn't been in years) can be a decent QB for a potential playoff team.
The Raiders do, 4 - 2 with a great running game they can still get in the playoffs but need a decent QB to get it done. Look at this schedule and it is clear 10 or 11 wins can be done with a decent QB, but they need one soon. I disagree about Palmer being a playoff level QB, Palmer has never won a playoff game being 0 - 2 throwing 1 pass in 2005 and terrible in 2009 while Garrard has won a playoff game, played poor but played solid the week after against NE. So if history says anything Garrard is a playoff level QB and Palmer isn't. Mainly because Garrard has won one and played well in a loss, Palmer has stunk in both he's played in. (Lack of, because he only threw 1 pass in the first)

David Garrard is out, says he is having back surgery and isn't available. Campbell says he will have surgery and could be back in 6 weeks. Seems like Palmer is almost a no go now. Boller for 6 weeks...lovely. Just place Campbell on the IR and trade for Palmer.

The Raiders done lost their mind.

I was all for them getting Carson Palmer. HOWEVER, I was DAMN sure not for them getting Carson Palmer for a 2012 1st AND a 2013 2nd (or 1st).

Cincinnati just got the biggest steal of a lifetime. In fact, it might be enough to turn the franchise into a winner if they draft well.

I wanted him too after Garrard was a no go...But this is paying too much. So much for a future. Do the Raiders even have a pick in the first 3 rounds in 2012?

Oak still has their 5th & 6th round picks, however there is still about 4 & a half hours till the deadline, that gives them plenty of time to trade those picks away as well.

Palmer hasn't gone through a training camp, or even worked out with a team since like last season. This is going to end horribly for Oakland, I predict Palmer is taken out with an injury within 3 weeks of his first start for the Raiders.

A bonus in this most recent trade for Cincinnati: Oakland reportedly will pick up all of Palmer’s remaining salary for 2011 — he was set to earn $11.5 million over a full season. Palmer’s contract actually runs through the 2014 season, and he’s still on the books for $38.5 million over that stretch.

Campbell, meanwhile, will be a free agent after the 2011 season, so it’s possible he has played his last down in Oakland.

Wow, yeah the Davis family need to hire a GM, before the Raider franchise ends up like Al Davis, dead & buried. Also poor Jason Campbell, this guy just can not catch a break, Oakland may been the best situation he's been in his entire career, then in teh final year of his contract, BOOM! season ending injury. Perhaps he can find work in Miami, Minnesota, or Seattle next year.

Oakland will also be getting a compensatory pick at the end of Round 3 thanks to losing Nnamdi Asomugha and someone else (don't remember who, but remember reading about it about 5 minutes ago).

I disagree. I think Palmer will be a good pickup for the Raiders. He is clearly motivated now that he's not in Cincinnati, he's on the best NFL team he's played for in years (if ever), and he's probably 100% healthy now from all his health issues from the past few years.

I think he'll be a good QB for a few years in Oakland. They needed a good guy for the rest of the season, and they got the best one available, but at a very very steep price.

They'll hire a GM in the offseason. Apparently they are not allowed to interview front office people during the season (at least ones in other franchises). And to be fair, Al Davis would almost certainly have done this deal.

Jason Campbell will most likely get an NFL job again next year as a backup somewhere, maybe a place with a shaky starting QB. He wouldn't want to go to Miami because he'd be backing up Landry Jones (hopefully not Andrew Luck).

On a different note, if I'm the Jets, I'm offering the Browns my 2nd round pick for Peyton Hillis. They seem to want to dump him, he's a beast, and the Jets need a running back improvement.

Ponder to start against Green Bay.

Thank. God. Even if he does get demolished, I'd rather have the chance to see what the rookie can do then watch Mcnabb throw the ball into the ground 5 yards behind his receivers.

Why be a backup when he can clearly be a decent starter? If he isn't in Oakland next year which is a given, he should go to a team where he can start.

He isn't a beast, Hillis had one good year and has been subpar all year this year. Don't waste a pick on him, not worth the risk.

Heres to Mcnabb never playing again..ANYWHERE.

Where would he start? There aren't many open jobs. He's not going to DC (he's been there already), he's not going back to Oakland (Palmer), Cleveland, Seattle and Miami are both probably gonna draft a QB. Cardinals have Kolb. Buffalo has Fitzpatrick. The only chance he has of starting next year is going to a team that drafts a rookie but doesn't want to start him right away. Then the next year he's either a backup or right back to where he is now.

And it's not like he's a beastly starting QB. He's decent. Teams won't be rushing after him.

Whenever he's healthy, he has been a beast. He was good in Denver, he was amazing last year in Cleveland. This whole year the Browns have never given him a chance, and now he's dinged up. I believe he's actually a Free Agent soon, so I'll gladly take him then.

I hope Ronnie Brown stops fumbling and can be effective in Detroit. We need a power guy for this year to team up with Best.

A lot of people are complaining about the Cardinals having home field advantage and criticizing how the All Star game decides home field. What they're ignoring is the Cards would have had home field under the old format anyway. Just sayin.

Best has had 3 concussions i think, his career maybe cut short sadly. May want to consider drafting an RB in the draft next year as a back up plan just in case, concussions are serious business.

Wow....
Apparently the Jerome Harrison/Ronnie Brown trade was voided because doctors discovered a brain tumor on Harrison. If ur didn't get traded, he wouldn't get the physical, he wouldnt be diagnosed. The trade most likely sved his life.

Yeah Jermoe Harrison has a brain tumor and the trade actually may have saved his life. Without the trade he doesn't get a physical and it isn't found right away.

The Lions drafted Mikel Leshoure in the second round this past season but he is out for the year with a knee injury. Hopefully he comes back healthy next year. I wouldn't mind taking another back with a mid round pick though.

The Lions signed James Davis so hopefully he can pull his head out of his ass and tap into the potential he showed at Clemson.

The more I think about it, the more I want Mike Gundy as the Jags next head coach.

He will always be known as the "I'm a Man! I'm 40!" guy.

He's still a man, but he's no longer 40. He's 45.

All that being said, he's a pretty good college coach. No way would he pan out as a head coach in the NFL though.

Perry Fewell would be a good choice for Jacksonville. He is arguably the best coordinator in football and has history with the Jags as their DB's coach from 98-02. If you want an offensive guy then Brian Schottenheimer would be a solid choice. I've also always been partial to Russ Grimm. He is a hard nosed guy whose coaching style would fit with the Jags personnel. He is also a proven winner with 4 Sb's, 3 as a player and one as coach (OL coach in Pitt).
