One of us was Nostradamus. One of us was NO-stramus (or Nostra-D'oh!-mas)

Jets kicked the Jaguars asses, in all facets of the game. And Luke McCown vs. the Jets D was MORE then enough of a matchup to guarantee a Jets win. He was bad enough that his ass got pulled and he might be removed from his position permanently.

I would say it was more of a horrible game plan by the Jags than a lot of what the Jets did. Maurice Jones-Drew was running all over the Jets and was averaging nearly five yards a rush. So what do the Jags do? They decide to throw the ball with Luke McCown. I was getting so mad I was screaming at the TV because of the stupidity of the play calling. They should have kept running the ball with Mojo until the Jets proved they could stop it, which they never did. Just another example of the incompetence of Jack Del Rio.

But I really do wonder how much things would be different if Marcedes Lewis played. We may have actually scored a touchdown.

Oh, and please start Gabbert. I've been saying to start him since he was drafted. There is literally no reason not to.

10 of his 18 runs went for 3 yards or less. The Jets stopped him many a time yesterday. Yes he had a pretty good day, but it's not like he was running at will against the Jets.

It would have been slightly different, yes (the Jets are not incredibly strong defending against elite receiving TEs, and Lewis is an excellent one). I doubt it would have made a big difference, as at the end of the day McCown was pwned by an elite D, and the Jets O got the job done.

I understand not starting rookies right away, when you have a better option. The Jags do not have a better option (at least not after cutting Garrard). They need to go with Gabbert now.

Just another example of the incompetence of Jack Del Rio.
Jack Del Rio and incompetance go hand in hand, and have for years now. Why wasn't he fired 2 years ago? The Jags could have had so many coaches that have turned out to be much better coaches (Mike Smith, John Harbaugh, Rex Ryan, Jim Schwartz, Raheem Morris), or guys like John Fox or Mike Shannahan. Instead, they keep the garbage they have. Better the devil you know, then the non-devil you don't.

The Greatest closer

Yes.

(pitcher?) ever

No.

And there's a few guys the Jags could consider if they want people with experience following the season - Bill Cowher, Jeff Fisher (who obviously knows the division), or if they want to give a guy his first shot - Rob Ryan comes to mind.

EDIT: The Dolphins and Chiefs look to be on their way to being in that boat as well.

Agreed. There are always some, I was just pointing out who the Jags missed out on during their futility of Jack Del Rio the past few years.

I will all but guarantee you the Fins and Chiefs will hire their new coach faster then the Jags. Both seem much more willing to spend money. And both teams need to fire their coaches (Miami needed to do it last year when they actually tried to hire a coach without firing the predecessor).

He was getting stronger as the game went on, though. If they would've ran him early and often, there is no doubt in my mind that the offense wouldn't have been completely stagnant. For some reason they asked McCown to throw the ball against Cromartie and Revis when his best two receiving options were out for the game. That is just downright stupid, but I expect nothing less from a Jack Del Rio game plan.

Marcedes would have made a pretty big difference in my opinion. As soon as I saw he was out I realized the Jags had no chance in hell in the game.

Garrard played himself off the team. He was given the chance to prove his worth and failed miserably. The Jags haven't done anything offensively that Gabbert can't do.

Money. Del Rio got a huge contract following the 2007 season when the Jags went to the Divisional Round of the playoffs and gave the Patriots a run for their money. If he was fired, he would still be owed the money, plus having to pay a new coach a contract as well. I wish he would've been fired years ago.

The thing is, though, is that Mike Smith was the Jags defensive coordinator for years. I wish we had Smitty back.

But I don't want Shanahan as a coach. He is about as overrated as they come. He's accomplished nothing since John Elway retired.

Cam Newton vs Blaine Gabbert Sunday. It should be fun to watch and I expect Newton to get his first victory.

It wouldn't surprise me, but with two of Carolina's linebackers out, I'm expected a huge day out of Jones-Drew. The Jags pass defense has been very good so far this year, and while Newton has been putting up a lot of yards, he's also thrown four interceptions. The Jags have also said they will be opening the playbook up more this week with Gabbert. I think if the Jags let Jones-Drew control the game on offense they could be fine. It's going to be a good game I think.

But I just now saw someone's suggestion for the Jags next head coach (sorry I can't remember who it was, Megatron maybe?), and they said Jeff Fisher. I don't think there is an available coach I want less than Fisher. He is unbelievably overrated in my opinion. He was .500 or worse in 10 of his 16 years as a head coach, which really isn't that much of an upgrade over Del Rio, if any. In fact, all he is is Del Rio with the exception of a couple of seasons. I did like the Rob Ryan suggestion, though.

Newton ran into a Hall of Fame corner last week who welcomed him to the NFL but he still played great for the most part. The game will certainly be close but unless Gabbert pulls a Newton and defies the laws of football by having a great first start then I see the Panthers slightly edging them out.

The first few seasons he was there, the Titans/Oilers were a rebuilding football team that was getting over the loss of their franchise qb. He then took them to seasons of 11 or more wins in 4 out of his next 5 years and had a SB appearance. Then they had to rebuild again with guys like McNair and Eddie George aging. After 2-3 years of that he took them to the playoffs in two more seasons before the coach/owner/qb relationship got all messed up and caused a couple down years and ultimately him leaving. The Jags would be lucky to get a coach like Jeff Fisher. 142-120 career record AND he guided them through two rebuilding periods. Sounds like a much better option then a D coordinator who has never been a head coach at any level.

10 of his 16 years as a head coach he was .500 or worse. So for over half of his career he only won half of the games or fewer. That doesn't seem to great if you ask me.

I'm not saying the guy is Bill Bellicheck but he was a head coach for 16 years, went through two rebuilding periods, and only had 5 seasons where he was under .500. I'll take that over someone unproven.

He went 6-10 to 8-8 in eight of his seasons. I don't see the point in firing mediocrity just to hire mediocrity.

Del Rio took over a better situation then Fisher did plus he only had to go through that initial rebuilding period. Fisher won 11 games 4 out of 5 years after his initial rebuilding period, Del Rio has only won 11 games twice in his career. Plus Fisher has a better winning % then Del Rio in both the regular season and playoffs. Fisher is a much better coach then Del Rio

Del Rio sucks. Fisher has been to a Super Bowl (and was 1 yard from beating the Greatest Show On Turf).

On to a different topic. The Yankees sclinched a playoff berth. And the magic number to clinch the division is 1.

The Yankees are facing the Rays tonight and tomorrow, and have a 3 game series with Boston then a 3 game series with Tampa again to end the season.

This is a bit of a weird time. The Sox (who are playing shittier then shit) benefit from the YANKEES beating the Rays (so the Rays don't catch Boston). And the Yankees kinda benefit from the Rays winning, as they can potentially knock the Red Sox out of the postseason.

Question. Are Red Sox fans rooting for the Yankees to beat the Rays, thus clinching a spot in the playoffs for the Sox?

And are Yankee fans actually rooting for the Rays to win so they can catch the hated Red Sox?

I personally am rooting for the Yankees, but am not upset if the Yankees lose against the Rays.

Yes I mentioned him, and it was because he did make a SB and has been relatively successful. Out of the proven guys available though, (I'm thinking Cowher, Gruden, and Fisher), he'd be the 3rd guy I'd want.

And BS, just because a guy isn't proven as a head coach doesn't mean he isn't capable of being a good one. In fact, recently many first time coaches have had great successes (Tomlin, Raheem Morris, Ryan, Mike Smith, John Harbaugh, McCarthy). Sure, some of them went to some of the most stable organizations in the NFL, but that's beside the point.

I never said it meant they weren't capable of being one. Some of the best coaches in the NFL were successes right away with their first ever head coaching job. I was just saying that if I had a choice I'd rather go with a guy who was a proven winner over a guy who hasn't proven shit.

You know, I tend to have a pretty good memory for trivial matters. It's Time for a trip back in time to late March 2011. I don't know if our CH David is gonna like this.......

Tear. Fine, I'll bet you this. Yankees won't win the division. Red Sox will. Neither win the division, bet is over. How about that Mr. One Sided?

What's the bet? That's something I'd consider.

There needs to be some sort of wager on this.

It's simple. Those are the terms. Now if he wins, I'll change my name to "I Love NY Dick". I would hate it because I hate New York. If I win, he has to change his name to "New York Teams Suck Dick"

I'm fine with the bet, although the name-changes can use some work.

As long as yours says that New York teams suck then I'm all for it.

Yankees: 97-62
Boston: 89-70
Tampa Bay: 88-71
Toronto: 80-79
Baltimore: 67-92

ummmmm. The Yankees officially clinched not only the division, but the best record in the American League. CH, you might want to get to thinking of a name, unless you like "I love NY Dick".

-------------------------

On another note, here's how weird these last 3 games are. Hector Noesi just gave up a 2 run double, allowing the Rays to tie the game with the Yankees, and I'm happy. Now if only the Orioles can win against the Red Sox....

To be fair, you said A-Rod was gonna win the MVP.

But you called it, so hats off to you.
That I did, but that was not the bet.

The whole picking the Yankees over the Sox thing was probably because virtually all the prognosticators (at least on ESPN) were proverbially sucking the Red Sox dicks during the Preseason. People forgot the Yankees still had a damn good team.

And lol. The Rays had runners on the corners, 1 out, and the runner on first got caught in a rundown to allow the runner on 3rd to come home. The runner on first got tagged out, as did the runner at third.... A Throw-em-out, Throw-em-out Double Play.

some breaking MLB news...

Ozzie Guillen is apparently out as White Sox manager.

Oh, and the AL Wild Card is tied.

EDIT: ESPNChicago is saying that he's been traded to the Marlins for Minor Leaguers.

NOOOOO!!! No, I'm not even a White Sox fan, and I'm beyond upset about this. I really like Ozzie, and he's one of the funniest guys in sports right now. Hopefully he lands another job within the MLB (hopefully manager, I mean some team would take him probably.)
