The Sports Bar

Prior didn't have a rubber arm. Him throwing that much in his rookie season wasn't good long term. Hell, very few pitchers can throw 100+ every start of the season and not tire their arms. Verlander is a freak in that regard.

Good news about Konerko. Feeling better with his concussion symptoms. He is taking part in baseball activities and can hopefully join the team in KC on Friday.

Ugh I'm so sick of the Sox this season. All this Bobby V drama off the field is tiring. I guess it's best to just look towards next season as we're going nowhere this season. It'll be the third straight year the sox missed the postseason and I just hope we make major changes in the off-season. 1. Fire Bobby V, 2. Get rid of Josh Beckett somehow, 3. Trade Ellsbury for a good starting pitcher.

Yeah, Valentine is a disaster, really. I think he's just making things worse. With that clubhouse, you either need an absolute legend they can't help but respect, or a guy who knows how to stroke egos. Valentine is neither of those.

Pitching help is definitely needed. But, I don't now if it's necessary to trade Ellsbury. He's MVP talent, but coming off an injury year he probably won't get what he's worth. There's bound to be something good on the free agent market, if they perhaps let go of Ortiz instead. The only problem there is the extreme likelihood that he could sign within their division, given the Rays and Orioles will both want a DH.

Might not be unwise to re-sign Youkilis in that scenario, as a DH and occasional 3B/1B. He'll come cheap.

And 2K Sports wins the contest for being smart fucking game makers...

That's right, in NBA 2K13 you can play as the 1992 Dream Team (Minus Scottie Pippen who is a douche and wouldn't come to an agreement with 2K) and lose to (or beat) the 2012 Keep Dreaming Team.

Did they at least make a Fire Pro style Scottie Pippen replacement?
They didn't mention anything. Maybe they're still trying to get Scottie to agree before they put on a "Stevie Poppins" or something.

And even then, I doubt they'd put a fake guy on the team, they'd probably just have the 11 guys instead. It's the Dream Team, they can with with just 4 guys anyway, so it's fine.

A fan at the White Sox/Blue Jays game had a cardiac arrest tonight. According to reports it is the 2nd time it has happened in Toronto. Makes you think of how little sports actually mean in the grand scheme of things.

Breaking NFL News:

NFL Network is fucking amazing. I know this isn't breaking news for 99% of you, but as a Cablevision Subscriber it's news. Finally after 9 years they decided to negotiate with the NFL, and they already have a deal and have both the NFL Network and Redzone.

Ahh Thank you. The HD channels are a lot crisper
Literally there is no difference when you switch. I mean the box doesn't change to a different image or anything, it's the exact same thing. Both channels are HD.

Either way, I can't believe it, but NFL Network can even make preseason football interesting. They are jumping from game to game showing us all the interesting things.

Blaine Gabbert looks like a completely different QB so far through training camp and the preseason. I can't believe how much he's improved. Also, Justin Blackmon looks like an absolute beast.

Who needs Maurice Jones-Drew?

You still will.

How so? If we were at the top of the league offensively last year with him and struggled this preseason without him, he would have some kind of leverage. But that is far from the case. The Jags offense looks much improved from last season, and Rashad Jennings looks like he is more than capable of being the starting running back. Will Jones-Drew's presence be welcomed? Of course; it would only help the team. But it doesn't look like he is as needed as everyone thought he was.

Just cause a team does well in preseason doesn't mean they're going to look just as good in the regular season. They're two entirely different beasts. MJD is a huge weapon for Jags when healthy, how anyone, much less a Jacksonville fan could suggest they don't need him anymore is mind bottling.

It's preseason. I'd wait until the regular season before I pass any judgments. However, I do think Gabbert will have improved significantly. The guy probably came out a year too early and was thrown into the wolves before he was ready. Now he has a coach that should help his growth as a QB in Mularkey.

Fun fact: if the Pythagorean W/L held up for the AL Central, the Indians would be in last place.

I've definitely taken off the rose colored glasses on this one. This is a terrible, terrible team. Below average offense, truly abysmal defense, a pretty bad rotation - the only thing that even keeps them alive is an above average bullpen. Holy shit, we're fucking bad. Probably the worst team in the American League, actually. Just barely better than the Cubs and Astros, for overall worst, and that's fucking terrifying.

I don't know what to do with this team. The worst thing has been this damnable over performance of the Pythagorean W/L, because it's kept them from acknowledging it's time to tear this shit down. Trade Choo, trade Cabrera, trade Perez, seriously, enact Plan Omega on this shit because it is really, really bad. Rebuilding mode needs to start now, and the worst part is they won't know it, and they'll just sign a few budget free agents next year and expect to contend.

Dear God, it's a mess.

Hypothetical: if Hamilton leaves Texas, can the Indians turn Choo into Mike Olt? Alternatively, can they still manage Marte from Pittsburgh in the offseason?

Above all else right now we need a stopper starting pitcher. Out rotation is such a mess and we can't stop anybody in the first few innings. Our offense keeps us in a lot of games but when we're giving up 8-10 runs per game, there's not much we can do.
