The whole problem is that it's a "fail safe", the electoral college. They're supposed to be able to change the votes and "save" the country if they feel the populous is so stupid they're voting in someone who'll ruin our country. That sure worked, now didn't it?

If I understand it correctly the college was set up for way back in the day when communication was slower. There was a damn hologram on CNN. Communication is fine.

well it's pretty much the entire existence of congress. The house is controlled by the more populace states while the Senate (the more important branch) is represented equally.
