The Miz's Video Promo Before his Wrestlemania Match

I won't lie... the promo almost brought me to tears.

No one will ever realize how difficult it is to make it in the business of pro-wrestling. Not to mention making it to the WWE and becoming their branded champion within 5 years of your debut. Toss in the fact that he's a former reality star and you've got a blended recipe for impossibility in making it. However, he defied the odds.

The promo video encapsulated all of this in 2 minutes. Furthermore, it solidified his current character and, as far as I'm concerned, strongly advanced it going into that match at Wrestlemania. It reminded all of us that dreams do come true, even if your dream ends with you becoming one of the most hated WWE champions in years.

My hat's off to the Miz, the WWE, and whoever had the intelligence to choose that song. It was fantastic.

 

[Arkham Noir]

The odd thing about the video though was it was almost a babyface like video package. Usually you wouldn't show how hard a guy has worked to get where he is and how much he has overcome if he is a heel. Especially a heel who is about to compete against the companies top face who is generally booed anyways.

All that aside, it was a great addition to the match. In hindsight, it probably saved the Cena/Miz match from being completely forgotten.I hope in the coming years they continue to think outside the box like this for their main events at Wrestlemania. It is the biggest spot of the year and it is nice to have the point drilled home right before the match. Even if the match doesn't end up that great.

It also gave the Miz a huge and much needed credibility boost. Not to say he wasn't very credible, but with the whole Rock/Cena situation that dominated the build to 'Mania it was a good idea to remind us all who the champion is.
