Doesn't blow your socks off in the same way that the LotR trilogy did, but it's still exciting.
But I'd wager more people are interested in how the 48 FPS works out rather than plot details and comparisons to the book, and my answer to that would be: it's fine, you get used to it eventually, though it's not entirely necessary and it only works best during the battle scenes. Other than that, it adds nothing other than an obvious reminder that you are actually watching a film, since the doubled frame rate highlights the artificiality of the digital effects, if that makes sense.
