I won't get into all the technical stuff, but there are a few surprising nominations here.

It's good to see Argo being nominated for so much and it deserves to win a number of them. One it didn't deserve to be nominated for is Best Actor. Ben Affleck was good in his role yet never blew me away with his performance.

I'm shocked that Denzel Washington wasn't nominated for his role in Flight. That film was brilliant and his performance was outstanding. Other performances which should have received recognition is Richard Gere's role in Arbitrage and Michael Pena in End of Watch.

It's a damn shame that End of Watch wasn't nominated for anything especially since it was fucking fantastic and better than the majority of films released.

The Lead Actress and Supporting Actress categories shows how weak of a year it has been for female roles. I think it's pretty safe to say that it's a lock that Jessica Chastain will win best actress for Zero Dark Thirty and Anne Hathaway will win best supporting actress for Les Mis.

That's all I've got for now. Any thoughts?

I don't think Phoenix should have been nominated for The Master. Amy Adams and Phillip Seymour Hoffman more than deserve their nomination, but I feel like Phoenix's performance crossed the line of over the top at times. He did a good, but not great job in my opinion. I'm not sure if you fault the actor or the writer or the director for the character, but at times it was over the top.

I haven't watched Flight so I can't comment on Denzel. I've heard good things, but the only guy I know who saw it in theaters fell asleep during.

I will disagree with you on End of Watch though. I thought it was a good film, but it was just that, a good film. It didn't blow me away, it isn't a movie I needed to rush out and purchase, I'm glad I saw it, but I don't need to see it twice.

The only nomination that really bugs me is Amy Adams. She was overshadowed by Joaquin Phoenix and Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and truth be told, her performance was decent at best.

I'm also not sure about Sally Field, and Zero Dark Thirty doesn't come out until Friday over here, but I plan on watching it. Hopefully it lives up to all the hype.
