The Greatest Old School Tag Team of All Time

I'd have to go with the dudleys for this one the 3d is an amazing move that I always used to wait with baited breath to see unleashed on the hardys especially when a table was involved and the pain that "what's up" conjured in my mind makes me cringe even now. (perhaps if given longer as tag partners though we would be hearing mention of what had to be potentially the most dominate tag team possibility ever...the brothers of destruction! Does anyone agree or disagree?????)

I am a little bit biased, but I am going to have to say Harlem Heat is the best tag team of all time. You can make a case for the Steiners, and LOD, but I would still give the edge to Harlem Heat. 10 time tag team champs.

This is a very good question. I have a ton of favorites. I'm really big on tag team offense, so any team that din't utilize great tag team maneuvers is automatically off my list.

It;s tough their are so many great teams:

The Rockers
Demolition
Money Inc.
The Steiner Bros.
The Hart Foundation
Owen Hart & The British Bulldog
The Dudley Boys
L.O.D.
The Hardy Boyz
Edge & Christian
The British Bulldogs
High Energy - (Yeah I said it.....they were underrated in my book)
Owen Hart & Yokozuna
The Jumping Bomb Angels
The Headshrinkers (Samu & Fatu version - Ceoni sucked balls)
Legacy
Rated RKO

But I am going to shock everyone with my choice:

The Quebecers - Disagree with me if you want. But they were one of the best tag teams I've ever seen.

They had great tag team maneuvers, were great heels, they had the look, had a great manager (Johnny Polo AKA Raven) and could hang with the best of them. Loved their theme song too.

How about the Boston Crab-Leg Drop from the top rope?......that move was sick. They really were innovative inside the ring. I used to love Jacques/Mountie when he used to crawl away into the corner to Pierre/Jean-Pierre Lafayette and then make the tag.

Plus I thought the Canadian Province Rules match was funny and creative. No jumping off the top rope, no throwing your opponent over the top rope, titles can change hands via count-out or dq........

My choice for best tag team is the Road Warriors. In the 80's they dominated the tag team scene whereever they went. They have inspired many wrestlers with their style. Some went too far and become shitty versions of the road warriors (demoliton and the powers of pain). They were one of the first teams to use music during thier introduction. I can't think of anyone who painted thier face before the road warriors. Now they were not the best regarding technical skill but I feel they were the complete package.

The Road Warriors they were the most dominate tag of all time they were 80s tag wrestling and are the basis for tag wrestling

Mega Powers. Just a quick add Hogan and Savage the two best guys in a team was good but ended bad

Without a doubt, there have been many, many great tagteams in the business over the course of 3 plus decades that I have watched pro wrestling ( on and off), yet, to this day, the best single tag team that I can recall is none other than the Wild Samoans, Afa and Sika. Like most samoan athletes, their combination of size, power and agility translated into some outstanding performances inside the ring. Afa and Sika were also able to sell quite effectively in their matches and were always able to draw heat no matter where they were scheduled to appear. Additionaly, the pyscology that they brought to a match added to their ability to draw heat. Younger fans should take a look at their program with Putski and Tito Santana to see an example of what they were capable of doing in the ring.

For anyone over the age of 20, the Road Warriors can be the only real answer. The fight for second place could be close, between Arn and Tully, the Wild Samoans, Midnight Express, Rock and Roll Express, Demolition, Dudleys, Steiners, etc, but, get real. There is Animal & Hawk, and then everyone else. The Road Warriors/Legion of Doom are in a league all to themselves.

i would have to go with the hart foundation, they had the perfect mix of technical and power wrestling,
Ted Dibiase and Steve Williams was a much better combo of technical wrestling(Dibiase) and power(Williams). Bret was good but the Anvil just wasn't that good.

Bret and Ted was a wash but Williams was far better than the Anvil could ever hope to be !

Carisma - Edge and Christian. Love them or hate them....they had carisma....
I like Edge & Christian but there's no way that they had more charisma than either the Freebirds or the Rock n Roll Express ! The crowds went crazy for both these teams, one as a heel(the Birds) the other as a face(Rock n Roll).

Dominance - The Road Warriors or L.O.D. - Power just raw power. But trust me The Dudleys are a close second in this race.
Agree with the Warriors but how could you put the Dudleys ahead of teams like Brody & Hansen, The British Bulldogs, The Powers of Pain, the Steiners, Scott Norton & Hercules Hernandez, Harlem Heat, or Vader & Bigelow when it comes to raw power ?

In terms of greatest, I assume we're not going kayfabe, because if we are, the Road Warriors are the only viable answer. I think the best mix team (title reigns, charisma, ring work) was the Steiner Brothers. They were truly an awesome team. The Road Warriors were great draws, had titles everywhere, had charisma coming out the ears, but in the ring they didn't deliver quite as much as the Steiners did, and the Steiners matched them, or came close, in the ther areas.

My personal favorite team, though, is the (Midnight) Rockers. As a gy who doesn't particularly care for Shawn Michaels, it hurts a little to say that, but I loved the Rockers. They were even billed as "tag team specialists", and they were, having tons of synchronized moves. Both were very good workers. I felt (and still feel) that Jannetty was the more talented of the two, bt obviously his personal demons held me back from everb eing able to prove that point, lol.

I respect that the Midnight Rockers are your favorite tag team. I'd never try and tell somebody what their opinion should be.

But Bill Watts was calling the Rock n Roll Express Tag Team specialist back in Mid-South in 1984 because of their great teamwork and synchronized moves long before the Rockers hit the scene ! The Midnight Rockers to me were nothing more than a poor mans Rock n Roll Express ! Don't get me wrong I thought they were good but they were just a very good copy of the Rock n Roll.

To me, the best Old School tag team of all time has to be Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson... the Brainbusters. This team specialized in tag team wrestling and made it popular. Other tag teams were probably more popular and well versed, but nothing matches the skill of these two wrestlers.

The Road Warriors had power, Rock n' Roll Express had the will to win, and the Midnight Express had Jim Cornette and great communication. That being said, The Brainbusters had all of this and more. JJ Dillon and Bobby Heenan are two of the greatest managers to ever step into a wrestling ring, and Arn and Tully were managed by both of them. And they really didn't need them. But that extra advantage, plus their in-ring skills and their ability to pull out wins when it seems to be impossibly make them my all time best Old School tag team.

And yes, I'm aware of the Minnesota Wrecking Crew with Ole and Arn... but to me, Tully and Arn worked better as a team.

Without a doubt, it has to be the Roadwarriors. From the moment that Black Sabbath (Ironman) music came on to when the baddest to dudes wearing spikes and face paint take somebodies head off in two seconds. Although limited to power moves, you believed the could beat everyone (even the top guys like Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant.) Cut some of the best promos and could play good guy and bad guy. Even when they were heels, you cheered for them. To this day, no tag teams could main event like the Warriors weather it a six man with Dusty or a Russian Chain match , these guys were the best of the best. The first to win three majors belts and you could pretty much feud them with anyteam and they always shined.

No room for debate here - it's the Road Warriors. Two power guys who easily could have been upper midcarders/possible main eventers in singles as monster heels, and they beat everyone in tag team. And most importantly, they went to WWF and maintained the same dominance they had in the minor leagues.

The entire point of wrestling is to entertain. Nobody ever wins anything. These arguments about title wins is ridiculous! The object is to get yourselves and your opponents over or to get people to care about the story you are telling. That being said the greatest old school tag team ever in my opinion...From the Dark Side...Beautiful Bobby and Sweet Stan The Midnight Express!!Road Warriors could storm the ring and take people out quickly...because they couldn't work a freakin match. Stan and Bobby got more teams and themselves over then anybody. They caused riots and had people in tears for them when they were good guys. They made other teams look better then they were and they were SPECIALISTS!!

From the 80's.....

WWF: The Rockers, without a doubt. Sure, there were tag teams with better gimmicks and managers and were more over, such as Demolition and the Hart Foundation, but the Rockers were innovators. They were the most exciting team to watch, and they rarely had a stinker match. The Hart's were probably my second favorite. The WWF though was a very distant 2nd to the NWA/WCW though then, as they had countless HOF teams.

My favorite NWA team was the Midnights, Beautiful Bobby and Sweet Stan. I thought they were great. Loved Arn and Tully, hell, Arn and ANYBODY. Arn is definitely one of the most underrated wrestlers of all time, as well as one of the best NWA TV Champions they ever had. Loved the Steiners, as they were from Michigan. I feel bad for wrestling fans too young to remember Scott Steiner pre-Big Poppa Pump, as he was incredible. Had he not have had all those injuries, he could have been one of the greatest. The Freebirds. The Rock N Rolls. The Road Warriors. Doom. They had more tag teams than the WWE does Divas.

I really do miss great Tag Team wrestling, but it would be really hard for 4 guys to have a good match nowadays that lasted less than 3 minutes. Like so many old school guys though, I'd love for it to make a comeback and probably love Beer Money because they are so throwback to those days.

Greatest TT of all time? Hmmm...its tie between Holy Demon Army( Kawada & Taue) and Hart Foundation( Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart. HDA were the Team with the most 5* TT matches ever. Had among with Ole Anderson & Keith Larson Vs Ivan & Nikita Koloff the greatest TT match of all time against Misawa & Kobashi. Hart Foundation were great, but HDA are the greatest ever.

Other great Teams id say are British Bulldogs, Steiner Brothers, Rock n Roll express & Arn Anderson & Blanchard.

I don't know about THE best but a tag team that definitly sticks out in my mind near the front of the pack is the team of Doc & Gordy. That was a phenomenal pairing or amateur wrestling (Doc) and brute power wrestling (Gordy). One of the most feared teams and talented on different levels. Mic skills be damned because "old school" is not about who can cut the best promo but put on the best show and these guys always entertained.

The Greatest Tag Team is the Road Warriors. They revolutionized tag team wrestling in the 1980s. The Steiners was also a great tag team. They were probably the second best tag team in the NWA behind the Road Warriors.

I can narrow it to 3, if it was 19 years ago when tag teams were big my 6 year old self would remember which team I liked the best. But doing my best so many years later since tag teams were relevant:
Bushwhackers, awesome march to the ring and really got the crowd pumped. Battering ram finisher was cool.
Demolition and LOD, tough face painted warriors. They were the shit, legit tough guys that looked like they shouldn't be messed with.

My all time FAVORITE would be EDGE and CHRISTIAN these two were so funny espicaaly the 5 SECOND POSE and they were a great tag team and i was hoping to see a reuniting of E&C but it dont look like we are. As a close second would have to EDDIE and REY dont know why probally because it had my two favorite wrestlers at that time its shame we can never see that team again RIP EDDIE. IM starting to really get behind the HART DYNASTY there going to be a GREAT tag team one day

I have to say my favorite tag team of all time (as far as entertainment, wrestling, and performance quality on a night to night basis) has to be Edge and Christian. Those guys were completely innovative in their tag team run. They helped hold the tag team division up for two years, and they had a good match with whomever they wrestled. They were part of one of the most legendary feuds in history with the Hardy Boys and the Dudley Boys. Their "five minute poses" were legendary for their offensiveness and sheer hilariousness. They even created their own language. So, Edge and Christian have my vote. If I didn't, I would probably rank of "total heinousification"

Reading down the list of tag teams listed by j. beaner, I have to mention one other tag team that history seemed to forget: Money Inc. They were a very solid tag team combination, and I would put them in my top tag teams of all time. Of the makeshift tag teams of two formerly singles wrestlers, this one actually worked over a long term in terms of heat with the audience (although it's not hard to hate a tax man and a rich guy), success, and quality of matches. Plus, they had one of the greatest managers of all time: Jimmy Hart.

My attitude area tag team and just before that would be legion of doom/ road warriors.... just tenacious, i remember there debut on nitro... at only around 15 i marked out huge for them. From the mid to late attitude area til about 2003 it was the Dudley Boys, and the Hardys in a dead tie. Dudleys were the leaders of extreme and brought that in to the E, and then the Hardy's took that chance at going extreme and ran with it. E&C are second to those two tag teams. in between 03 and 07 i dont really have a tag team because the division sucked in general. After 07 through now my favorite team is the Motor City Machine Guns. There just a great tag team and they work excellent together. Not to mention their X-Division backgrounds. And they will take on any one any where at any time. There a big reason why i watch TNA (besides Sting). Im saddened they are not featured more prominently on the show tho.

Now my honorable mention teams are as follows-
Pre 97- The Rockers, Midnight Express, Sting and Luger, Mega Powers
97-2001- Outsiders, Vicious and Delicious, Steiner Brothers, Harlem Heat, Wrath and Mortis
01-03- Eddie Guerrero and anyone, kurt Angle and anyone, E&C, 2 Man Power Trip, (not sure if there in these years- Brothers of Destruction).
04-07- NONE
07-now- Beer Money Inc, Lethal and Creed, Hart Dynasty(growing on me), Miz and Morrison, JeriShow, ShowMiz, and quite possibly if it happens Jeri-Miz.

APA. Best tag-team in my opinion. Why? Because they had the perfect reason for being.

Protection. In the Attitude Era it was needed, and with a price. Bradshaw & Farooq were as badass as they come, and personally I don't think they got enough credit compared to the high-flying Hardy Boys or table-breaking Dudley Boyz.

Another team that sticks out (and around the same time) is Christian & Edge. I am marking out if they ever have a reunion. They were very entertaining.

The old LAX (LATIN AMERICAN X-CHANGE) it has to be one of the greatest tag team of all this team had it all kus KONNAN was the mouthpiece of lax HERNANDEZ was the strong and powerful guy of the the team and HOMICIDE was the high flyer of the team. an the old lax theme DAWGZ by konnan was the Sh%# this team had it all Damn konnan why did u had to go..????? TO Live And Die In LAX ORALEEEEEEE ARRIVA LA RAZA PRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

If I had to narrow it down to one....

Eliminators from original ECW!!!!

They could do it all
Brawling/Street fights against Dudleys,Gangstas,Samoans,etc.
Technical mat wrestling against Furnas/Krofut and other "mat" wrestlers
high-flying aerial assaults against Sabu/RVD,Hakushi&partner(can't remember)

they could adapt to all styles of opponents!!
Not to mention one of the 2 most memorable promos in ECW history...

DOC-N-GORDY!!
DOC-N-GORDY!!
