The Force Awakens Spoiler thread

Double agent idea is ridiculous but that being said I wouldn't be shocked if Ren had a different end game in mind than Snoke.

Like possibly ruling the galaxy with Stimpy.

Bam! Who ordered an outdated pop culture reference?

I don't like it as it's presented, but the will of the Force could make him a double agent of sorts. If something like that is explained then I'd give this fan theory a partial credit.

True, but it's not as bad as one of my friend's theory that Ren was the one who left Rey on Jakku. She thought the idea of Luke leaving her there was stupid.

The person who left her there sounded more like Ren than anything.

We live in a wonderful world where this was likely used in a demo reel that led to a guy getting a lead part in Star Wars:

I'm a Sith Lord, dad! This isn't a phase! This is who I am now!

I wouldn't call Unkar Plutt a "lead" role, but it's still cool to see Lena Dunham in the movie.

Saw it last night. Gotta say, those planets blowing up. And I kinda have a crush on Rey.

Just got out. Let me get my shit together.

OK. Shit gathered.

First off, I had a motherfucking blast, god damn what a fun, awesome movie. Everyone was cast well, script was good, solid mix of nostalgia pops and new adventure.

Reprised tropes? Definiately. I mean the main weapon was literally the death star, but instead this time was the death planet. I didn't really mind though.

As for any negativity......

I agree with everyone who says the political state of the universe was badly glossed over. It felt like this film took place 20 weeks after the last one, not 20 years.

I didn't care for two people who had never seen nor lifted a lightsaber being able to carry on a protracted battle with a guy who presumeabley is a practiced warrior who has been trained with said lightsaber for a dozen years.

Small issues, really though. Can't fucking wait for the next one.

To be fair, Ren basically had his guts rattled by what was basically a videogame grenade launcher and the fight stopped early. Not to mention, he just killed his daddy.

I do kinda wonder how he got off an exploding planet in that condition.

Yea, but still. THEY HAD NEVER EVEN SEEN ONE BEFORE

Even against a wounded opponent, I would give myself ZERO chance in that situation.

Maybe its the old timey wrestling booker in me :lmao:

agreed on the last part too. My wife was very curious "so wait is he dead? How could he have gotten off that planet in time, all wounded and knocked over with no one else around?

I could live with this for a few reasons.

1) He was walking around with a Chewie-induced leaky gut.

2) While he's been trained to some degree, he's probably one of the only people in the known galaxy at this point using such a weapon. He's likely been getting by on brute force until now. Which leads to...

3) He was unprepared to deal with an unknown with Rey's force sensitivity.

4) His temperament worked against him

and 5) He did end up going over a trained stormtrooper.

Highly protective booking, and he should be a monster when he comes back in VIII with his training complete. He'll be ready for Rey come round two.

I hope 2 and/or 3 addresses your point in some way.

A trained ST who also had never seen a lightsaber before. Even Finn put up a fight. That's part of my issue. That's even more ridiculous, as at least Rey has the power to "force up" and kick out of finishers and whatnot.

To be fair, Finn must have at least seen the thing doing Ren's grunt-work for so long.

Also, that one stormtrooper who came at Finn when he was using the sabre for the first time seemed to have some notion of how to counter the weapon's use, implying something on the subject was probably taught to STs in a Defense Against the Light Arts course or something.

This fucker:

I'm literally just playing devil's advocate now. Ren probably escaped at the end using Adam Driver's Dumbo ears to fly away.

Slightly cutting down the time they got in those duels would have made it fine for me, it was the protracted nature of them that put it into "oh, come ON" territory for me. I don't mind in general.

I definitely see what you're saying for Finn in particular.

On a lighter note, does Disney turn Poe and Finn into its first gay, inter-racial couple? Or is the internet just being the internet?

....Did people actually say this?

While it would be fine, I don't think Star Wars is really the place for it. May have to settle for the Finn - Rey romance

I'm salivating imagining the thinly-veiled homophobia which would champion and ultimately poison the potentially-reasonable argument that such a thing would be shoe-horned in.

Daddy needs some drama.

Never struck me that the Mouse would have those kind of nuts. Even in these progressive times, I give it another two decades before they go there.

Check Frozen, dude. They have their first openly gay character; the shopkeeper tells his family to say hello. Three children and another male. No female parent. Granted, there is some room for interpretation, but it's still much closer than 'decades' when you think of that one.

As for theories, I wonder if anyone had a similar experience over the holidays;

My brother and I have always been the geeks of the family, eager to discuss sci Fi, fantasy, and yes, wrestling. I've always wanted the rest of the family to be somewhat more enthusiastic about like topics.

Be careful what you wish for.

My family, my wife's family, all visits with friends and loved ones, everyone was sharing their Star Wars theories (all of which similar, none of which groundbreaking). I'm kinda burnt out on discussing it. I don't care who you think Rey's father is, Grandma. Let me eat my turkey!

Check Frozen, dude.
Nah. Once was enough for me.

I'd love for Rey not to be Luke's daughter. Everyone being related to everyone makes the galaxy feel painfully small. If I had my way, we'd never find out who Rey's parents are.
