The Force Awakens Spoiler thread

Looking forward to Episode VIII. I highly suspect prequel haters will be upset with that movie of it goes the way I think it will. And that was totally Yoda and Obi-Wan.

Do share.

I made out Obi-Wan, but didn't catch Yoda. Would figure Yoda's voice would've been easier to discern, but the scene was so trippy to begin with I was pretty caught up in it.

One of the oldest rumors out there, goes back to the original screenplays for RotJ. Rumor is, Vader was supposed to face Luke, and Obi-Wan would have become so in tune with the Force, he would have taken a physical form to confront the Emperor.

Now onto rumors for episode 8.
Rian Johnson is directing episode 8, and is rumored to be a big prequel fan. Rumors also say Hayden Christiansen has begun training to reprise the Anakin role. Ewan McGregor's voice has been confirmed in TFA. Luke is apparently at the 1st Jedi Temple. My guess, Rey is Luke's Daughter and OB1's granddaughter (see Clone Wars as to why this is possible). Rey is being trained by Luke, OB1 and Yoda. At some point, Anakin will appear to Kylo to try and reason with him.

Well I'm not a prequel fan so I've paid almost no attention to their spin-off materials other than those initial silent animated shorts. I've never seen the CGI movie or tv show, but none of what you wrote draws my ire. Even the most ardent hater probably gets why Sebastian Shaw can't reprise the role, and that "Episode VII" on the opening crawl was a dead giveaway that the prequels wouldn't be ignored.

Then again I'm a rational nerd (as far as nerds go) who found fault not as much with what Lucas did, but how he did it. That I might have to go outside the 7 films to make sense of the 8th only makes me more disappointed in Lucas for using a whole movie to jerk his special effects dick and shit up established canon. It'll be interesting to see where it goes regardless. Since they decided to blow up George's new ideas, I wouldn't doubt it if they spun his old ones.

Red Letter Media has put up their Mr. Plinkett Half in the Bag review. Anyone who's interested will surely look it up, but suffice to say they're thorough, fair, and, as usual, entertaining.

I read an article today that stated that Poe was supposed to die when the Tie Fighter crashed on Jakku, but Oscar Issac was so upset that Abrams changed it in later drafts that he survived the crash.

I'm sure there will be some sort of book or comic that explains how he survived not only the crash, but his trek in the Jakku desert and how he avoided recapture and subsequently rejoined the Resistance.

My friend thinks Snoke is Darth Plagueis.

Hope so. It appropriately ups the ante villain-wise, makes Palpatine's story and speech to Vader even that much more important, and could be woven into the story of Ben Solo's fascination with his grandfather.

I find that hard to believe. I think it was always intended that way.

"You got your money, old man, now quit sending phony scripts to my actors!"

Oh, okay. Agreed. I admittedly didn't click the link but am about to.

JJ and his crew did a great job embedding things for meticulous fans and likely hid enough easter eggs to keep the super fans going through a revolving door at the box office until next Christmas.

Ren became less and less impressive the more he appeared. Han and Leia were very meh. Finn was less meh but had that funny little thumbs up moment with BB8, who was probably the second best actor in it after Rey.

Poe's reappearance and x-wing skills were brilliantly executed. His total initial trust of Finn was a bit stupid though, I guess the first order have never thought of more subtle ways of infiltrating the rebels other than BLOW UP PLANETS.

The Skywalker family are nothing but trouble and seem to fuck up the galaxy through each generation. They must be stopped.

Overall, fun but safe and a little dumb.

Just watched it. It was basically Episode 4 with some minor changes. Still fun though. Kylo Ren is certainly an interesting character. I fully expect the big reveal in the next one to be Ray and Ren are brother and sister

Felt there was a little too much going on so things were a little rushed.

Kylo Ren is no Darth Vader in a good way - damaged youth who might only get worse following his actions and then defeat by Rey.

Will be interesting to see if they put a mystery into who Rey is.

As for Snoke (don't like his name), not convinced by the Plagueis theory. I know most of the EU canon, where Plagueis' death is recorded (in an excellent book on his training of Palpatine), has been set aside but I am not sure if all of it has been. At the very least there has been a new book canon instituted but whether it impacts on the movies I am not sure.

The Emperor said he was dead in episode III but you know. Just my mates theory.

My theory is that Rey is a clone of Luke using his hand that the lightsaber was attatched to.

Ive seen the "Snoke is Plagueis" theory in quite a few places. I would find it more likely that he is a clone of Palpatine, something else that happens in the books.

Doesn't seem likely to me at all. It's expressly said that The First Order doesn't use clones. That order probably came from the top, and from someone old enough to know that clones aren't as effective as natural born soldiers, even when those soldiers are teddy bears who fight with rocks and sticks.

It'd also make the rise of a new Republic much more unlikely if there was still a very alive, very in-charge Palpatine on Coruscant after the Battle of Endor. Plus, clones typically have some sort of resemblance to the person they're cloned from. As old and desiccated as Snoke appears, it would make as much sense for him to just be Palpatine.

Then there's the can of worms it opens. Why would Palpatine stop at one clone? Would a clone be as adept with the Force as the original, if at all? If so, why didn't Palpatine take his clone on as his apprentice? If not, how does Snoke hold power over Kylo Ren? Why didn't Palpatine clone Anakin Skywalker? Why, besides the clone army failing, is cloning frowned upon by The First Order?

I could only see it because then Disney could keep retelling the original trilogy ad infinitum, and with how generously TFA borrows from Star Wars that just might be the plan.
