It's funny, before Del Rio won the World title, this forum was talking about him like they do Kevin Owens now.
I love his ring work, his match flow is great, he tells a story as well as anyone can, his mic-work is great for a foreigner (The Vignettes when he first was appearing sold me on the guy before I even looked up his old match history)
That all aside though, as the topic keeps going off towards "The IWC hates ADR".
My current thoughts on the Midcard belts is solidly, that they need them to make young stars, the US title on Cena was good to build it's prestige, I don't think Del Rio should have it, as Cena dropped it so he could go film another lame reality show that nobody is going to watch, ADR is Above the title, and the MexAmerican gimmick is just going to give him cheap foreigner heat, which always turns sour.
KO having the IC title is great, and works around his gimmick, as a setup to see if he could be world champion soon, only problem is that once he has the World Title Strap, everyone will think he's boring and terrible in the ring magically.
One thing I will say though, is if they can keep intensifying the Diva Division, and Tag teams become more prominent, it might be viable to run with just those 3 titles and dump the midcard titles, NXT may be able to bridge the gap between Low Card and Midcard, to allow people to move up, rather than jumping through the IC/US hoop.
There's definitely diminishing returns on how much titles add to a ppv, Cena Vs Orton for the WWE World Heavyweight unification didn't sell any better than having 2 separate matches would have, and multiple title champions always lead to sloppy ways to take the title off someone (Super Cena beating Rollins, but him beating Sting, made everyone look weak, Cena winning a midcard belt, Rollins losing to Cena, and Sting losing to an exhausted Rollins, nobody gains)
