The 2011 Academy Awards LD Is Living Under A Rock On 2/26/11

Ugh, I still can't believe Leslie Nielsen is gone. I LOVED The Naked Gun films as a kid.

Peter Postlethwaite was also one of my favorites, because I do think he was very underrated. Mr. Kobayashi was one of my favorite characters in The Usual Suspects.

I thought he was great in The Town, too.

I mean, I knew the real Pete Postlethwaite was dead and I felt bad about it, but fuck I still couldn't wait for Affleck's character to kill him when watching that movie. He played a rotten asshole really well. It's a shame he didn't get bigger roles while he was alive.

I can't say Fincher was robbed since I haven't seen the King's Speech, but when I get a chance to watch it, I'll probably come back and say that Fincher was robbed.

So true. I wish we could've seen more of him in that film.

FUCK!!!!!!! Well, things aren't looking too good for Black Swan so far. I guess Aronofsky will have to wait even longer now.

Yep, his next movie is The Wolverine, and you already know that won't win jackshit.

Aronofsky might end up being the Paul Newman of directors when it comes to the Academy.

Meh, not that big of a deal. Remember, this IS the organization that gave Robert Redford a Best Director Oscar for Ordinary People the same year that Raging Bull came out. Oh, and let's not forget the fact the Coppola didn't even win Best Director for The Godfather (that award went to Bob Fosse, one of the shitest and most overrated directors ever, for Cabaret instead).

Fincher should take solace in the fact that AMPAS is far from the end all, be all on greatness. Instead, they're just an organization that usually awards those films that they can relate to (i.e., those about privileged people whose biggest concerns are about shit like lisps or about not being able to find the perfect partner while using their wads of C-Notes as tissue to blow their stuffy noses).

While I'm sure Natalie Portman's performance is better, I still hope Annette Bening wins. She deserves a pity win at this point.

Newman got an Oscar for Best Actor. Aronofsky will get an award when he deserves it. He needs to first reach the talent level of the European misanthropes that he likes to think of as his brothers- and sisters-in-cinematic-spirit.

Yeah, but he didn't get it until late in his career, for a movie and performance that wasn't nearly as good as his past work. I just have a feeling the same will happen to Aronofsky 15-20 years down the line.

Aronofsky deserves the credit for Portman's performance, if you ask me, because the only role she did before this that was worth a damn was Leon. Everything else she's starred in was mediocre at best, IMO.

If you ever watch the special features on The Wrestler DVD... Aronofsky REALLY pushes his actors. I mean, he nearly ripped Rourke's head off at one point he was so pissed, lol.

Colin Firth is going to win, but man it would be awesome if they shocked the World and gave it to Jesse Eisenberg.

See, this is the problem with having so many award shows.

It makes the only one we truly give a damn about so fucking predictable.
