Only Saw III and IV are terrible. Especially Saw IV.
They completely up and change the entire cast, yet somehow try to ignore changing any of the story. Add on to that, the "good guy" and "bad guy" looked way too much alike and had me fucking puzzled as to who was who 30 minutes into the damn movie.
Saw V was okay, and I actually enjoyed Saw VI the most since Jigsaw's death.
Saw 5 I think is under-rated as it is a phenomenal background film in deep diving into Detective Hoffman's motives for why he is doing what he is doing, and also into establishing his rather ruthless character.
Saw 6 was good, and many feel it was the best Saw since Saw 2.
I don't really look at this series as actual "movies". Rather, I look at them as expanded Television Episodic Crime Drama series. I think if you view each one as another "episode" as opposed to actually viewing them as "movies" and judging them as such, you may enjoy them better.
I am a fan of the series in general, and I don't view any one any more weak than the other, only because I view each of them as expanding upon the total story even more ... given how much each one backtracks into prior events .. and you get a little more of the background of the story from each one.
But I am a big fan of Detective Hoffman's character and I think he is very under-rated when comparing him to Jigsaw, especially considering his resourcefulness and determination to stay clear from the authorities for his past, while continuing Jigsaw's work.
