He announced he's currently writing a sequel to The Shining entitled Dr. Sleep. After all these years he's following up perhaps his most famous piece. Interesting...

What are your thoughts? Yay or nay?

I'm curious.

I won't read the book, but if it gets adapted to a movie that's as entertaining as it's prequal, I'm all for it!

I'm definitely interested, I mostly want to see if this new one can live up to The Shining. My first thought when I read this was no freakin way it will be anywhere near as good and will be forgotten, and it will be just another time where a sequel can't live up to the success of the first. However I do have faith in Stephen King and I am hoping he can pull it off, it'll be a good read either way.

Maybe Kubrick can come along and evolve his story, make it better again. The Shining mini-series is probably a good enough reason King shouldn't bother with this.

Sequels are hard, especially ones with the intricacies involved in any of Stephen King's works. On the other hand, if anyone can manage it, it's him.

My favorite work of his was "The Stand." King is amazing at taking multiple sets of characters and interweaving their fates and actions into a story the reader can follow. In this novel, he started with dozens of individuals from all walks of life...... told their tales...... brought 'em all together in one location......and related their story from there. Only a master writer could manage to put all that together while not losing the reader.

"The Shining" doesn't have as many characters to depict, but I would bet Stephen King can keep the level of intensity as high as he did in the first novel.

I'll check it out. I don't expect it to be very good though. King has really fallen off in the last 10-15 years. Should probably just stick to non-horror and short stories these days.

I'm a huge King fan but the Shining was never one of my favorite works of his honestly. Being the fanboy I am though I'll read it. My main King concern right now is if the Dark Tower project will ever fucking get started.

I am an avid reader, but am not familiar with King novels. Currently, i'm reading the series "A Song of Fire and Ice" but once I finish that, I plan on reading "The Dark Tower" series.

I recommend any of his short story compilations. Nightmares and Dreamscapes is a favorite of mine. Better than a lot of his full length novels.

I'm an avid fan of Fantasy type novels. I'm one of the biggest J.R.R. Tolkien fans you'll ever meet, a huge Harry Potter and Star Wars fan, and am now turning into a huge Song of Fire and Ice fan. I hear The Dark Tower is exactly what I look for in a novel.

Wow, yeah, I'm with Xfear. He should just not even bother. He's been shit since 2000 or so. It's like he stopped trying.

Just get the Dark Tower project up and running, and get back to me.

How can he have fallen off if the dark tower ended less then a decade ago? That series is a masterpiece.

Don't expect the Dark Tower project to get up and running anytime soon, it's currently in development hell, largely due to the financials. Also King is releasing another Dark Tower book next year, this one is suppose to take place between Vol. 4 & 5 of the series.

Oh, shit, forgot about that movie. Never mind. Just let him write the novel but give an advanced copy to Frank Darabont so he can get started on the screenplay ASAP.
