So, Did "Wrestling Matters" Live Up To The Hype?

"It Didn't Matter." Yeah, so today AFTER Last nights Impact, it proves that TNA might finally be getting the show on track. Why? Less promos, the show started with a wrestling match, which was really refreshing. The show ended with a match, and a damn good one at that, and EVERYTHING on the show seemed to make sense and advance storylines. The nice thing is that the show was solid the whole way through. Hell, they even look to be getting the X Division geared up, like I said before they were heading in that direction, thank God, and it was solid. So, does "Wrestling Matters" mean anything for TNA? I really think that, in the end it just might. Reason being is that TNA has promised this and that and not delivered. This time, they just make a new catchphrase for the company and don't promise anything, and guess what? Actions just might speak louder than words. I can't speak for where the company will be in a few months with this, but if they keep things flowing the way the last two weeks have been, it's a HUGE improvement. And that's coming from someone that enjoyed TNA to an extent before all of this. I watch wrestling because I like wrestling matches. Nice to see them coming back again.

So TNA are doing these little videos of stars saying why wrestling matters.

I dont think wrestling matters anymore to TNA then WWE and it is probaly just the little boy shoting the giant with the pea shooter again.

Before i posted i did my resarch i watched these videos i watched a few episodes of IMPACT and the fact is IMPACT has just as much wrestling as RAW apart from the odd week and if anything SMACKDOWN has more wrestling then IMPACT.

So it got me thinking is it the fact that TNA thinks that Wrestling matters to them or is this just there way of spending money to take another jab @ WWE

Even know i will say that IMPACT seems to have improved from what i watched a year or so ago in production value but there seems to be less wrestling

And maybe you should've watched a little harder. When they say wrestling they don't mean just matches. By wrestling they mean EVERYTHING. Backstage promos, in-ring promos, matches. Everything that makes pro wrestling - pro wrestling. That's what "Wrestling Matters" is. That's what the videos are all about. "We're not afraid of the term pro wrestling". While the other company doesn't like the term, TNA embraces it and everything that made it good. That's all it is. Pro wrestling was never about the in-ring stuff. It's about everything, and when you look at the big picture, TNA has everything. They have variety, the storylines are written by people who worked in the WRESTLING business, not a bunch of Hollywood geeks, the wrestlers all have varying personalities and characteristics, the promos are not scripted line for line - they cut them like a PRO WRESTLER should cut them, like they've been cut for years and years.

That's what TNA is marketing right now. WWE has nearly all of what I mentioned incorporated in their product as well, the difference is that TNA is proud of being a pro wrestling company, while WWE isn't. "Wrestling Matters".

I totally agree with what Zevon_Zion said, "wrestling matters" does not just refer to the stuff that happens in the ring. In fact, I never really took it to only mean matches. In a way, it is a jab at the WWE, a celebration of the tradition that made pro-wrestling great, and a way to present Impact as a distinguishable product from the WWE. The WWE has become so far removed from what brought them to the dance that I think fans really do want something different from the standardized crap that the machine has been pumping out over the past 5 years or so. Impact isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination & I don't think this new marketing strategy is going to allow them to beat WWE, but I think some people might be drawn to it and appreciate some of what they've got to offer.

Noo. I watched these videos what made me watch IMPACT and what im saying is IMPACT dont show me Why Wrestling matters

IMPACT is not doing the videos any justice. What basicly i want your opinion on i does Wrestling matter to TNA (Not The stars the company) or it it just more TNA Bull

aphazel1 but TNA isnt any diffrent from the stuff WWE id doing when i watched the few episodes of IMPACT nothing made me think wow this is wrestling

Of course "wrestling" does not matter to TNA. And of course it's just another envious jab at the WWE. C'mon, everyone knows this. This is the same thing Bischoff and Hogan have been doing since day 1. Obsess with the WWE, over-promise, under-deliver.

Nothing to see here.

Well said, wrestling doesn't matter to TNA this is just another failed we promise we're nothing like WWE really, watch us instead gimmick on their behalf. If wrestling mattered then Joe or AJ would be the champ and Anderson would be competing for but not winning the Television title until he got better in the ring, rather then competing in a worse main event pay per view scene then Raw. Wrestling matters, it's called ROH.

It's just Bischoff 101: try to make Vince look stupid, remind your fans that WWE is there, have them pick up the remote whenever your show gets boring. That last point was way more prevalent during the Monday Night Wars, but by how long TNA's new attempt at the War last year went on for, it's safe to say Bisch never learned his lesson.

Bischoff thinks it's a great business strategy to make fun of his competition, but TNA (and let's be perfectly honest about this,) is nowhere near competition to the E. There is a difference Vince doesn't mention these other promotions: He wants you to forget that they're there. The second he mentions them on his show, he gives them credibility.

Your right, wrestling wouldn't matter anymore to TNA wrestlers than it would to WWE wrestlers, but Bischoff is going after the older demographic that the E is almost isolating, and it doesn't take much research to find that the 18-30 male demo is largely unhappy with the removal of the word, "wrestling," from WWE television.

I think I can say that it's because of things like this that I don't watch TNA regularly, anymore. Sure, the storylines like Hogan's magic Hall of Fame ring and Winter make you want to facepalm, most of the roster is made up of old timers and WWE rejects, and all the female characters share the, "psycho ****e-bitch," gimmick and scream like banshees whenever they're handed a mic, and Bischoff still gets more screen-time than the wrestlers, but the reason that I don't watch TNA (even if it would just be for laughs,), is because of the fact that it's like they never learned from WCW. It doesn't matter what the E is doing: focus on your show. If they'd start featuring almost exclusively young talent, or just hire people to run the show that didn't help destroy WCW, then it could be a fine wrestling show. But, until then, I maintain that wrestling doesn't matter more to TNA; they just don't have the market to do the same things as WWE.

Wrestling matters does not mean the promos and other stuff. That's sports entertainment. The only companies where wrestling matters are ROH, DGUSA and most of the other indies

too many people see the term "wrestling matters" and think that has to mean that there should be a lot more quantity of wrestling, or more wrestling. I don't think that is what it means. why does it have to be be more wrestling matches or longer wrestling matches? it could simply mean the wrestling you do see means more, the wrestling you do see matters.
"professional wrestling" is more than just what is done in the ring. you can call it entertainment, but promos/story lines are just as important to wrestling as an actual in ring match. this is especially true when you are putting on a TELEVISION show.
if TNA ever went with Impact Wrestling where from start to finish you had almost entirely all in ring wrestling, I guarantee "Impact Wrestling" would drop dramatically in ratings.

I read people say like "it doesn't alway's matter in the ring, also the promo's and stuff."

So, what was the real reason to change their slogan and show name if they were really not gonna change at all on a grander scale. I'll tell you why, to make Vince McMahon look stupid (which they haven't succeeded) , but they should turn around and look at themselves first. Maybe if they could've read WWE's press release right they would realize what WWE is doing.

TNA is not that much different from WWE, well on the sense of the product of their show's. They have promo's and matches, so does WWE. Of course, you have to take into account the thing's TNA do like obnoxious booking, heel/face turn's for no reason, having has-been's on television, swearing just because they can, Lesbian-like storyline's, but both companies still have promo's and matches. So I still don't know where TNA's going with this whole "Wrestling Matter's" thing. Their still sport's entertainment, like WWE, or WCW before them. They can try to say how "real" it may be, but look all also tried that, WCW, and their out of business.

It also doesn't help to be made look stupid by their (in their mind's) competition, when WWE can put on 4 or 5 matches on both show's and their great.

So, let me ask you this, does wrestling really matter? I don't see ROH getting 3.0 or higher rating's, and their the most prominate wrestling promotion out there. The only company I see getting 3-3.5's is WWE.

"But their not a wrestling company anymore!" No, they still are, they just want to branch out and try other market's to be known as more than a wrestling company, and really there's nothing bad in that, if it keep's them going strong, then there's nothing wrong with atleast trying.
