Smackdown! Theme Music...

Occasional Pre-Show
Ok so I don't know about you guys, but honestly, I cannot take Smackdown! seriously whenever that music starts. It just ruins the entire show for me.. So cheesy and PG friendly. It has been used for soooooo long and unlike Raw's theme, I cringe every single time I hear that dumb ass SD! music.

What do you think? Is it time for the WWE to change this theme? It may help to update Smackdown! and make it watchable.

Yea imo they should really get rid of it, and while at it change that horrible montage. That part in the montage where Randy Orton has "snake like" eyes is corny. I know hes the viper but come on...

I think we need to specify which theme we're discussing. I know that when this topic comes up, everyone winds up talking about "Hangman" by Rev Theory instead of "Know Your enemy" by Green Day.

If we're referring to the Green Day song, I agree that it's total shit and doesn't fit the program. It's all happy-happy with images of these big, tough wrestlers being shown. Just a complete mismatch.

As for the Rev Theory song, not only are they one of my favorite bands but I honestly think it's the most kick-ass song they've written on the Justice album. It's fast-paced, exciting sound is really more suitable for Smackdown.

Everyone, please remember that this is a NON-SPAM thread. Do not just put one-lined, random opinions in here. You must back up all of your answers. If you do not understand, consult our rulebook.

Yea, it seems like they can never find a suitable SmackDown Theme. They've had A LOT of themes while RAW has only had like what, 3 themes since The Attitude Era?

They shoulda jus stuck with that "Beautiful People" song by Marilyn Manson or that "Rise Up" theme they had around 2006-2007.

I know It's PG, but that theme has to go.

Greenday should never EH EH EVER be used in pro-wrestling. What better way to say "Get ready for some ass beatings!" than by raiding your little sister's pop punk collection. What should they change it to? I would say some lame radio rock like they usually do, just get rid of Greenday!

I REALLY THINK IT'S A GREAT SONG AND IT FITS THE SMACKDOWN THEME VERY WELL. YOU GUYS WHO DONT LIKE THIS MUSIC MUST HAVE VERY BAD TASTE BECAUSE THIS IS ART AT ITS HIGHEST FORM IF YOU DONT LIKE IT THEN YOU DONT LIKE WRESTLING AS A WHOLE BECAUSE ITS ALL CONNECTED IN A VERY DELICATE WAY. THIS MUSIC IS GREAT AND SMACKDOWN WILL NEVER CHANGE IT

Feel free to take the cap locks off anytime.

As far as the music, I agree. I don't like it. But RAW had that Papa Roach song that said "I just wanna be, wanna be loved." How does that fit in wrestling?

I sometimes wonder if they are too cheap to pay for the rights for a GOOD song. The ones they are playing now might have been much cheaper.

I don't mind Raw's song right now, although I don't like Nickleback.

Wow. Are you yelling at us? Please, take off the caps lock man. And this is coming from someone with the username of Justin Bieber.. Haha!

Old Green Day is awesome, but I do agree with the rest of the people that posted, this song is terrible and doesn't fit the show/feeling of the WWE. They either need a rap song or a hard rock/metal song as their theme. The Raw theme is okay, with the Nickleback song. I like the previous Raw theme from around 2002-ish. The band was The Union Underground. The song was Across The Nation.... It was a rockin' song by a hard rock band! The show's theme song needs to have energy and to be able to set the tone for the show... The new Green Day song doesn't do that. It's poppy mainstream punk.

This is the old Raw theme... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17ICToGeNDY

Yep, I agree that Green Day song is just horrible. To me their best theme was the first one and the one after the Manson song. They just need to go back to having Jim Johnston write music for the shows. I can't stand WWE trying to use some radio friendly crap song for their show's intros. I guess the Drowning Pool song they were using for a while wasn't too bad, but it wasn't great either. Even Raw's theme is just horrible, Nickelback blows a big one. Raw hasn't had a good theme since Thorn In Your Eye. :(

For SmackDown, "If You Rock Like Me" and "Let It Roll" were the only good themes the show has ever had. They set the pace for the show and get the crowd pumped. For RAW, they should keep "Burn it to the Ground". "Wanna Be Loved" was decent, but "Across the Nation" was just god-awful. I couldn't even watch the RAW intro in those days, I'd always have it muted.

I agree both themes suck thats one of the main shitty things about WWE Nickelback has been sucking since the day the came out and Green Day has been sucking since the American Idiot album I think they are overatted and Dookie was of there only really good album. Theres a lot other punk bands that are way better than Green Day. I hate that dumb song so much too. But I hate the raw song a lot more. I thought they could out bad themselves by haveing Papa Roach do they the Raw theme but then they bring in Nickelback. Nickelback is probally the worst band out today. All there songs are boring generic and sound the same and have the worst written lyrics ever. Thats what I don't get too WWE trying to be all PG and they let Nickelback do there theme. Nickelback not only has the worst lyrics ever but they also have the sleaziest and some songs sound like they want to rape women. Both shows need theme songs because Nickelback and Green Day suck

"If You Rock Like Me" was completely god-awful since Day One, "Let It Roll" was one of the better ones it has had, but "The Beautiful People" is hands down the best one it's ever had.

As far as Raw goes, "Across The Nation" was one of their best ones ever, "Wanna Be Loved" was ok, but it didn't fit the show. As far as "Burn It To The Ground" goes, it's doing it's job right now as far as PG goes.

The theme now sucks! "Rise Up" from Drowning Pool worked so great and fit. There are a few songs I could see that would fit. Smackdown needs a high energy song that gets me pumped like RAW has had in the past ("Burn it to the Ground" is getting old).

Here is a list that COULD work better than what they have now...

~ Heroes and Villians - Powerman 5000
~ Supervillian - Powerman 5000
~Diamond Eyes - Shinedown
~ Enemy - Drowning Pool
~ Kicked in the Teeth - Papa Roach

Again...anything is better than Green Day. Something that gets me pumped for Smackdown like RAW. RAW always has a theme to get pumped up for it.

As far as "Burn It To The Ground" goes, it's doing it's job right now as far as PG goes.

"Burn it to the Ground", if you actually listen to what the song is about, IS NOT a PG song. That's where WWE were hypocrites when the whole PG thing came into play. "we're PG family friendly now but our main show has a theme based on going out and drinking." Polish however you want but a turd is a turd.

I only remember Green Day from when I was in college. My son liked them whenever the American Idiot album came out and they reached a whole new level of popularity, but he was also nine. So, I suppose that's my evidence to know they're marketing Smackdown as a kid's show.

Most adults probably don't like Green Day. By the time Green Day got popular, I was already talking about how my generation's music was better. Kids and teens are really the only people who listen to Green Day, other than people my age having a mid-life crisis.

Also, the fact that Smackdown comes on Friday nights is probably a good sign that most 18-30-year-olds aren't home to watch it, anyway. It's clearly meant to appeal to the teens and kids who will be home or at least in front of a TV on Friday night. I'd probably watch Smackdown a lot more often if it were on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

So, no, even though I don't like the current Green Day song, I understand why they use it. I also don't like that Smackdown is such a PG show, but again, I don't think I'm meant to like it. It's an annoying song, it's a predictable, poorly written show, and I think that they could do much better, but I think that's what we have RAW for. RAW could be a lot better too, but I think Smackdown is more of a show meant to push action figures. That's why Randy Orton is the big babyface on that show.

This is just me being a massive music nerd about one of my favourite bands, so ignore me for a second, but technically, the song is called "...To Be Loved", by Papa Roach.

On to the topic in hand. I actually love Green Day, I think they're an amazing band and as a result I always end up singing along with the theme music whenever SmackDown comes on. However, this is purely because I like the song. I agree that it doesn't fit in with the show itself. The repetition of the title just seems cheesy when backed by images of wrestlers who are considered, shockingly, "enemies", and plus I always liked the slightly rockier tunes they had. Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson is still the best theme the show's had for me, it was heavy enough to fit the show and plus had that great kick in moment with the "hey, you" thing. Was good.

I agree the song is awful. I think they started using it when they moved to the sci-fy network back in october of 2010. But yeah its god awful. I liked beautiful people, rise up and let it roll. But when I first herd it on the debut on sci-fy. I was like uummm WHAT THE HELL IS THIS LOL! I know its not pg but anything from sevendust or killswitch engage. How bout some AC/DC. But this know your enemy song has got to go.

I like The Shinedown song you chose. Always did love their music. It'd be a good fit.

Ever since the First SmackDown vs RAW Game, I always wanted WWE to incorporate more songs from Powerman 5000. Their music in that game always has me coming back.

Okay, I'm going to be honest, I hate both theme songs. I think Raw should sack Nickelback, and have Devour by Shinedown on there, its a fast-paced hard rock song. As for Smackdown, Know Your Enemy is getting worse every week. I think they should have it be from a less-known band, like how Set the world on fire was the hell in a cell theme. They could use that, or maybe use the song To Hell and back, by blessthefall. Something hard and heavy

Sorry, but the Green Day theme is some of the most god awful music I have ever heard in my life. That song is such piss, I almost don't watch Smackdown because of it. Theme music is so damn important in setting the tone for a show, and nothing makes me want to flip the channel more then when "Do you know your enemy" starts screaming at me through my speakers. It's too up beat, the vocals suck, it just does not fit with what "professional wrestling" should be trying to sell itself as.

Now that, that's some damn theme music right there. Same wrestlers, yet I actually can't wait until 8 this evening to watch Smackdown. The Beautiful People is easily the best theme song in the history of that show. Why the WWE insist on changing themes on a regular basis I'll never understand. Some things work. Beautiful People and Thorn in Your Eye as theme songs should never have been changed.

Yes, I'm sure we just have bad taste and probably don't use caps lock enough for your liking either. The song is garbage and Greenday is a garbage band with throw away pop punk music, but that's not the problem. Most music the WWE chooses sucks, but atleast it usually fits the program. If you think pop punk fits Smackdown you must only tune in for the AJ segments before changing the channel.

Green Day was cool 10 years ago, then Billie Joe became a political douche. Their music nowadays is just lame.

This is coming from someone who's favorite bands back in the day were easily blink-182 and Green Day. At least Neighborhoods is tolerable.

But yes, hearing Know Your Enemy is just so mediocre and ridiculous. New Green Day and Nickleback just shouldn't be themes for anything.

I've gottta say personally it's a toss up between 'Beautiful People' and 'Everbody on the Ground'. While I understand WWE's product has changed, I still think intensity is an important aspect of a good signature. 'Rise Up' was also cool but apart from that and the other two mentioned the themes have varied from bland to absolute crap (Green Day? WTF?). It has been pointed out already in this thread but rap or heavy rock are the two genres that seem to suit being in the show opens. It's probably going to catch flak, but if they are looking for something for a more current generation they could go the dubstep route. The network promo was great, IMO, as it was different from all their other generically soundtracked and bland promos. It felt different, new and important. The reason the Attitude Era or the Rock'n'Wrestling eras where so successful is because they were in touch with the generation. WWE needs to evolve, and the music is no exception.

That's true, but with the part they use as the intro you can't really tell what it is about. Idk, both shows are PG but Raw seems to be the less PG show of either.

I was actually just thinking how bad the Smackdown theme really is as well. Im not a fan of Green Day I probably like three of their songs but this one is really bad. I can't stand hearing it and just want to mute it. I always thought Saliva - Hunt You Down would have been a great song to use for Raw or Smackdown. They did use that song for no way out once before. I don't see why people have a problem with the nickelback song it's one of their best songs and it's hard hitting and fits well.

It's funny how a thread about a theme song for a show turns into another "hatefest" for the PG rating. Being PG has very little to do with the theme songs they use. Obviously they aren't going to use some super offensive or explicit song, but I don't think the PG rating is the biggest factor for using these themes. The biggest factor is the popularity of the bands. They aren't going to go backwards and have Jim Johnston write the theme for the shows because no one knows who Jim Johnston(or the no name band that performs the song) is.

I agree that it's time to upgrade the theme songs for both shows because they are outdated and "played". However, with that said, when they do change the themes, prepare yourself for more mainstream stuff that you hear everyday on your local radio stations. Vince wants the WWE brand to be as recognizable as he can possibly get it and the best way to do that is to stick with the mainstream. I can honestly tell you that when I hear "Burn it to the Ground" on the radio at work, my mind instantly thinks of Monday Night Raw and WWE. That right there is what Vince and WWE wants to happen to everyone, especially the casual fan. He's not here to please us in the IWC because he knows that for some unknown reason we watch anyways even though we seem to bitch about everything.
