Should Cena Take Some Time Off?

My question is simple, should Cena take some time off awresltemaniafter? Im not looking for Cena haters here to respond with brainless I hate cena nonsense because its cool to hate him now. I don't want Cm Punk fans on here because he is the IT guy right now, the flavor of the week. Im looking for legit opinions, Cena is disrespected by fans all over. He has become so hated for really no reason at all other then he was the face of the WWE for so long and kept it afloat when there was no talent to step up.

Now WWE are releasing shirts to crap all over the cash cow who kept WWE out of the red for the last 7 years. I think its time for Cena to take maybe a year if not longer off. Spend time with his family let the other guys step up to the plate and see if they can put a$$es in seats. Everytime he comes out he gets booed to no end (not in the good way), thats got to wear on you.

I would do him some good to just disappear for awhile.

No break needed, CM Punk maybe a big focus but a program with Cena is still interesting without the belt. They should have had Cena taking a break when we was 'fired' but that didn't really happen did it.

i find it funny how you demand that no Punk fans or Cena haters respond to this thread when you are clearly a Cena Fanboy. they do have an official Cena thread here at the forums; you can find it here: http://forums.wrestlezone.com/showthread.php?t=185922 I think this question is best suited to fall there.

I would like to weigh in on this real quick before the thread is deleted and or moved. IMHO i think yes Cena should take some time off. Rumors abound about his personal life with his wife hitting a rocky patch right now. The true WWE/F fan could give a crap if he left and never returned. So maybe now would be a good time to take a break, fix his family, maybe get a job ala Patrick Swayzee in the movie "Road House", fight some crime, read a book...etc.

Then once he realizes that the WWE does not need him after guys like Ziggler, Punk, Rhodes, ADR, Ryder, Miz, Orton carry the company for a while he would come back energized to reclaim the mantle of the "it" guy.

Or he could just stay away....oops I guess i just broke your no Cena hater posts in here. My bad :shit:

I think for the long run of his on personal health it wouldn't be a bad idea to take some time off. All the major superstars have done so at some point in their careers, some on more than one occassion, so why not Cena. It gives his body time to heal up and rejuvenate, plus absence does indeed make the heart grow fonder, so he would come back as a more refreshed character in the fans eyes.

Let me take you back to November 2010. John Cena "retired" via the stipulation of the Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett at Survivor Series that year, and cut a heartfelt goodbye speech the next night. The very next week, he appeared on Raw. Let me repeat that. A week after he cut a speech similar to the real ones HBK and Edge cut about how much he was thankful for everything in his wrestling career, he was back.

If they won't even leave the guy off television for a week to sell a storyline with a payoff, there's no way they'll keep him off for a year just to give him a break. And he wouldn't want one, either. The guy works way too hard for that.

i think, not only would it be good for him personally, it could help his character. everyone's so sick and fed up with him now, so if he took a lengthy break his return could be exciting and maybe help his fanbase

I think he should take time off after wrestlemania, first of all, he deserves it, he has been working very hard for a long time, i'm not exactly a Cena fan, but i have to admit that all these year he has worked his butt off for the WWE, and he's getting booed for that?? Ok,maybe his character is getting old, but that's not exactly his fault, the creative team should do something about that, but anyway, some time off could be a little healthy for him, like some of you pinted out, he can take care of some personal things, spend quality time with his family and friends, and just rest, and maybe he can come up with something different when he returns, like a long overdue heel turn or an edgier Cena, something that no one can see coming, that's my opinion.......

IF WWE doesn't turn Cena heel, then Cena should take some time off after WM28 only IF The Rock beats him. The next night WWE can say that Cena is taking time off for personal reasons. Then by Survivor Series he should return by demolishing a babyface giving him cheap heat and can continue to build on that little by little to turn him heel and IF The Rock wants to or not, they can have their rematch at WM29.

If he needs a break to rest that's fine. Clearly as last night proves the WWE can put on a good show without him. The problem with this however, is that the WWE would be losing its biggest star and biggest merchandise seller (usually). They may be ten year old butts, but he still puts butts in the seats. If the only reason for giving him time off is because they don't have a post Wrestlemania plan, or they wanna give the character a break.... insanely bad for business.

First I don't like Cena (the character) because he is stale not because it's cool and it's idiotic to dismiss my opinion or to say that I FEEL that way because it's cool, I am not 12 anymore and I don't need to look cool to anyone.

Second I like Punk and I did since he was feuding with JoMo in the WWECW because I knew him by name and vow to keep an eye on that "prodigy" and it's idiotic to dismiss my opinion because I like someone who is popular.

Now that we've established that my opinion is 100% legit even if you just want people who have the exact same stance than you in your thread I will say that yeah I think Cena needs a break, but don't get me wrong Cena is not DISRESPECTED he mostly ask for the T-Shirt to be sold and probably love the idea. He is getting booed because he is stale and if it's true that the WWE wanted to do it in 2088 it just goes to show how long he's been stale.

I think Cena should take a break or at least go to Smackdown! for a while because it will make him less stale (or at least exposed even if he were to come back with the exact same gimmick), a lot of wrestlers were hated and stale before they went out on their own or due to injury and came back totally loved by the public.

I think Cena needs a break as much as we need a break from him.

Feel free to dismiss my opinion.

So you don't like Cena? Your a punk fan? Your opinion is already completely biased, your like every other mark on this website who claims they liked punk before his shoot promo. You have no idea what you really like.

I think Cena needs a break as much as we need a break from him. Again completely biased.

I neither a fan nor a hater of John Cena I'm stating the facts as they appear and i wanted completely unbiased responses, but what do I get.

I think Cena needs a break as much as wee need a break from him. ugh tools

Cena NEEDS to turn heel for the sake of his career, more and more people are gonna turn on him because of his holier than thou persona, i bet you the people that boo him now will as soon as he turns heel will cheer big time for him and the WWE already have heat material in that, Cena can go on about these a$$holes have no right to cheer him now, when last week they booed him mercilessly

No, he should not take time off. You don't see guys like Orton, Rhodes, or Sheamus taking time off for no reason.

Now, FORGET THE HEEL CENA IDEA!
It wont happen.

So why don't we start wanting the Dr. Of Thuganomics back! Give Cena the rap gimmick back and see if he can be that badazz rapper and get over with the main demographic again.

When did the term "mark" become a general insult thrown around all the time? I can't remember the last time someone used that word correctly.

Anyway, I admit that I've been booing Cena since he won his first WWE Title, but I warmed up him recently. I'm not crazy about his overall character, but he is a solid in-ring performer and the hardest worker in the company. If he actually wants to take a break, then I think he's earned the right to do so, but his current feud with the Rock and the smark crowd has made him more interesting than he's been in years.

Mantis please explain in your terms what is a mark?
This
Mark
insider term used to describe fans within the professional wrestling business. Any person in the wrestling business who doesn't know how to separate their "gimmick" and "real life" is also a mark.

Yes Cena should take time off. so should a few others. will they? No. Money doesn't come from nowhere. Wrestlers are not like hockey or football players and get paid their regular salary whether they are there or not. they have to compete to get paid the big $$$. This is why Cena wont go anywhere.

on a side note, the anti Cena tshirt is a genius move. the Cena fans will want a Cena shirt, and the haters will get that one. therefor Cena related wear is back at #1. Great marketing.

I think we, the fans need a break from Cena as much as he needs a break from us. With Cena I think less could be more. Don`t have him on every raw. Give the fans a break to notice punk and some others. Cena always steals the spotlight so I think Raw needs some time without him after Mania for Guys like Punk and Ziggler to grow and be noticed more,. as well as Miz, Del Rio, Zack, Brodus, Mason Ryan, and others. Let the WWE grow for a change and let Cena have a break from the bussiness. If ratings go down Vince will just pull him back quicker than planned. I think this is something well over due, and worth trying. I saw TLC last night and I didn`t miss Cena not being there at all. It was refreshing and one of the best PPV`s of the year.IMO.

I don't think the t-shirts are being sold to "crap all over the cash cow who kept WWE out of the red for the last 7 years.". They are just finally coming to the common sense conclusion that since public opinion is (arguably) around 50/50 on Cena and they are selling pro-Cena shirts at a huge profit, they should also cater to the other 50% and sell twice as many shirts. Face or heel doesn't matter, it only matters if you sell tickets or merchandise. I can promise you that if Cena gets a cut of the shirt sales, he doesn't give a DAMN which one you buy. Should he take some time off? I don't think so. It's stupid to release a new shirt for a star that is going to take time off. The likelihood of someone buying a pro or anti Cena shirt is alot less if he is off tv for 3 months. The shirts would still sell but not as much. If he's healthy then there is no need to take time off. If he does need to take time off to recharge then he'll have to wait until wrestlemania because there is NO WAY IN HELL they are done promoting Rock vs. Cena yet.

Sorry to bash you but no way and I for sure am not any Cena Fan. You can't have him take a break for a YEAR! No matter how much hate he gets he still sells tickets and brings in ratings, one of the reasons why people tune in week after week is to hate on cena because its entertaining. Im not saying he should not fake a injury and be out for 1-2 months or watever but a year is absolutely riduculous. Cena is not hated by EVERYONE. I dont hate Cena but i dont love him either, his a good guy but he can be annoying but at this moment of time im fine with him fueding with KAne and leaving the title picture up to Punk,Miz,Del Rio etc...If so many people hate him so much there's a simple solution, Character change. Whole new attire and gimmick. If he takes a break ratings will go no matter how much haters he has, i dont undertstand why WWE released these shirts whichin my opinion is disrespectful to the guy who has held the company up for the past 5+ years or so. Also, to the guy who said about him moving to smackdown, think about it! You could not fit Him, Orton, Big Show and Sheamus on the show. It would be to loaded and who is there for him to fued with?? JINDER MAHEL?!

I think that if Cena left the WWE for a while... lets say 6 months minimum, and then made a SHOCK return... rather Taker/Jericho esque.... I would instantly Mark out as a Cena FAN.

Right now I dont like Cena... just because of the way he is booked and the way they limit his moveset... I find his matches repetative and boring.
BUT I am not a Cena Hater... and I think that if I go a good few months knowing that the spotlight is clear from JC then when he returns unexpectedly then I would honestly root for him as a face...

Having said that.... John Cena does not need to take ANY time off...because I am ofcourse a MINORITY and the majority want to see Cena here, there and everywhere! Merch sales are still doing well and the crowd is still going crazy for him both possitive and negative.

Okay, I will be honest. I dispise the character John Cena with an immense passion. BUT the man John Cena has my utmost respect. He is a very hard worker, is always doing something for or with the fans, a ton of charity work, etc. He is an overall good man. With that said, the amount of work and dedication he has put in for the past several years has GOT to be wearing him out. If not now, sometime soon. It would be good for him to take a break for awhile. Rest up some minor injuries, de-stress, write a book, make another movie, something else. Im not saying this because I don't want Cena off tv, because I dislike him. I am saying this because I don't want to see him get burned out, and stop doing all the great work he has done.

He was sorta taking time off this year with 2 straight to DVD movies.
He deserves a rest, whether you like him or not.

Hogan took several months off a few times during the "Hogan" era, and it only made his return that much better. Doesn't mean it has to be totally absent, just not competing or on TV every week. Also would force creative to think of something new without the crutch of having Super Cena there to rest upon

Um no you have that misconstrewed.
Pretty sure the main eventers would have set contracts with bonuses they get paid,
the lower level guys would be on appearance basis.

Cena would still get paid, he would still be doing outside appearances and even if he didn't ya think he wouldn't be made of money by now? not like he spends money on transport/outfits that's all paid for by WWE.

He could take several months off and be no worse off.

Cena is getting reactions just like Hogan in 1995/1996 in WCW. People are beyond sick of schtick. The super face? We're over it. We like our "good guys" to have the bad boy edge ala Stone Cold, The Rock, HBK, Sting (back in the day)...we don't like the "gee golly I'm happy to be here" good guy...and it's funny, Cena has been morphed into that, but he didn't start off as that. I'm not sure he needs a break as much as a change of character or maybe both (IMO a heel turn like Hogan...maybe even at Summerslam after some time off? Have a similar situation where Cena 'sells out' and joins Lauranitis and some others to create a new faction turning on...The Rock? Orton? Triple H? Who knows...anyways)

Giving himself a break and a character change would probably renew interest in him. The only interest I have in him is seeing Kane destroy him...and I mean destroy him. Like Tombstone him through the stage....or choke slam him through the concrete on the outside. That's not a good place for the "face of the company" to be in where he's despised by general fans. That's why he should be a heel. Maybe even a "disrespect" angle similar to Sting back in the 90s where he feels disrespected by the fans, by the Cena Sucks shirts and is only out for himself and beats up everyone equally. There's so much they could do if they just would, but judging by creative, they will likely stand pat and hope everyone cheers "gee golly good guy" Cena while the majority of the adult audience will spew their venom at him.

I say yes, he needs a break. You know the bumps are wearing on him and the stress of the personal life will get to him also. There is a reason why he hasnt had a full on match in over a week. Match against Henry last week lasted only a couple mins, nothing on TLC and nothing on Raw (other than an awsome "beatdown" segment) <--not hating on Cena, but saying that the segment was amazing.

And some time off will make the fans realize also that Cena is good for product. Hell he wasnt on TLC and i was scratching away trying to find out why he wasn't there, and it's still bothering me because we have no explanation for it. I'm not a Cena mark but the guy IS the face of the company. And i'd like a reason for him not to be apart of a PPV.

And i'd like a reason for him not to be apart of a PPV.

Back when Shawn Michaels was the face of the WWF (1996) he was left off the Buried Alive PPV (which I attended live...he wrestled Goldust in a dark match afterwards) so in "traditional" WWE booking it's not too uncommon. He may have been left off the December PPV that year too if I remember right. There were other big match attractions so leaving Cena off wasn't that big of a deal...he didn't really have a hot feud so why just throw him in? You had Punk in the Triple Threat, Show/Henry for the title, Ryder/Ziggler, Orton/Barrett, Nash/HHH, Rhodes/Booker...It was a decent card. Cena wasn't really needed.
