Shane Douglas - Thoughts On A Possible Return?

Yes, I did leave off a few names from the list. ECW was filled with talent through the 90's up until the end was imminent before they closed up shop. Sure they had guys who couldn't work but so did the WWF and WCW at the time.
WWF had guys like Khama and Bastien Booger and Hardcore Holly's original NASCAR persona.. WCW had the Renegade, Scotty Rigs, L.A. Smooth, and Prince Iakea and KiWi.. so give me a break.. They can talk as badly as they want about ECW but those guys chose to come thru ECW, ECW had the capacity to keep their star shining long enough, ECW's issues were 10 percent quality, 15 percent network related and 75 percent financial. You not gonna see Austin speak down to ECW.. Malenko and Guerrero would show respect, if WWE and WCW champions will show ECW respect how is a fan going to veto that lol? Jack Hammer is to WWE obsessed to realize how rough WWE's actions are on wrestling as a whole..
I wouldn't want Shane to wrestle unless it was a one off. Shane is great at drawing heat and one of the best promo cutters in the history of pro wrestling. I would want to see him in a minor on air role, something with Johnny Ace but you are probably right, it's probably too late as the WWE audience of today wouldn't know who he is unless you brought him back for a TV taping in Philly, NYC or Pittsburgh.

THATS WHAT I DEFINITIVELY REALIZED LIKE A FEW DAYS AGO. THE THINGS U AND ME AND EVERYONE ELSE HERE ALL TALK ABOUT, WE COULD NOT TALK ABOUT AT A LIVE EVENT.. If we had a round table discussion at a wwe event the audience members would not comprehend what we were saying or just be confused. Its like the saying if no one heard the tree fall did it really fall in that forrest..? if you dont know shane douglas how can u view him as "The Franchise?"Its like we are old timers and thats dumb because these stupid brats at WWE events are only like 7 years our senior.. You cant make an impact if your history was erased. VKM alienated most people our age and Attitude Era hold outs..
Very very frustrating :(

P.S. I hate having to be harsh on Douglas because he was one of my favorites as a kid.

That's what bothers me about the WWE product. Their is no continuity from week to week let alone from wrestling's past to the present. It amazes me that a guy like Roddy Piper makes an appearance on Raw and he barely gets a reaction at all. It makes no sense to me. Is the WWE audience as a whole that young? Is there no one in their late 20's and 30's watching wrestling anymore?

When I went to WWE RAW the adults were moms who brought their kids, the kids don't pay attention, its a circus tent atmosphere.. even if douglas. Showed up against laurinitus no one would understand. What was happening or its significance. The Road Warrir Animal would get no reaction.. that's what annoys me about cm punk is his historical allusions that most ppl don't get.. I love them but feel ******ed and nerdy seeing no one else get it or just knowing the 12 yr old is thinking "who the fuck..?" I'm gettin tired of WWE, they make wrestling embarrasing, I hate hw its a phase for 11 yr olds when I've watched for 17 some years.

No way WWE would give him a gig. I always thought he was never that good in the ring and his mic skills weren't main event status either. He was actually kind of sloppy in the ring and didn't seem to care for the business. WWE has no reason to sign him, he has nothing to offer and they have nothing to gain. Better off bringing up a younger kid that you know is dedicated and has alot more potential.

needless to say I didn't read the entire thread before posting this so I'm sorry if I'm repeating others but no....

No offense to Shane as he was a decent/good wrestler... he was pretty damn good for WCW and needless to say was very good for ECW... It didn't work for him in WWF/E and well I never saw him on TNA (sorry I don't watch it..) so I can't comment... I will however state that I'm sure 80% of the audience of a typical wwe show would not know who he was if he was introduced... There would be no use in having him "return" in grand fashion, nor would wwe want him back after all of the comments he spouted after his stint... (as others i'm sure have mentioned mick foley's comments about him burning bridges...) He went off on the WWE after he left and therefore theres no reason on wwe's side to bring back someone who hated his last stay here... The only way he'd be back was if VKM was in a vindictive mood and brought him back just to be a tool..

Shane Douglas was his own worst enemy. I remember being at the ECW Arena and marveling at how talented Douglas was on the mic. I'd rate him in the top 25 all time in terms of promo work. The problem arose was that all the heat he was trying to get was cheap. Don't get me wrong - he could draw heat. The infamous Gary Wolfe halo incident comes to mind. Still, it seemed that if he wasn't talking about Flair, Vince, Dusty, etc. He didn't seem happy and therein lies the problem.

Shane Douglas, as ECW World Heavyweight Champion and leader of the Triple Threat was phenomenal. Unfortunately, that was about 17 years ago and ECW is now just a memory that lives on in those of us who where there and on DVD. Douglas has no place in today's wrestling environment.
