It really pains me to vote against Halo here. Call it overrated if you must, but it's still one of the funnest games you'll EVER play in your lifetime. I cannot explain the countless hours I've played this game online. Literally whole days of my life would be consumed by wiping the floor with people on Blood Gulch. I used to eat a shitload of DXM, trip my face off and play Halo until 4 in the morning, and I was still better than the majority of players. Great, great memories with that game man.
But unfortunately it's facing Final Fantasy VII, the pinnacle of video gaming culture in my opinion. It's more than a game, it's a piece of art. Do I really even need to explain all of the praise heaped on this game? Because it deserves every last "Best Game EVER" award it's received. Legendary game that gets my vote here. Sorry Halo, I love you to death and I'll play you 'til the day I die, but FF VII is superior here.

For the record, I don't think Halo should be regarded as one of the greatest games of all time. It is one of the most prominent, yes, but not one of the best. However, I'm not one of those Halo-haters out there. I have each Halo, and have spent countless hours in them, particularly Halo 2. Oh how I would tear shit up with my friends online hour after hour. I LOVE the series, but for some reason I just can't really regard it with such a high esteem.
That said, I'm still going to vote for it. Just because I don't like the Final Fantasy series.

FF7. Not to be an elitist snob or anything, but Halo really is overrated. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it. I did. It was fun in it's own way, even if it did suffer from a lot of repetition since you spend most of the game backtracking. It just doesn't deserve to be listed among all these genre-defining classics.

I love Halo, great game, fun to play, hours of entertainment, however I had to go with FFVII, I mean it's one of the greatest RPG's ever. Not much can stand up to this game really, it's one of my all time favorites, so it got my vote.
I said in the last round before Halo undeservely went over Shenmue that you could either vote for the most overrated game of the decade or the most revolutionary. This time around it's the most overrated game of the decade against the best game of the last.
Can someone explain to me what makes Halo great because I've played it and it's like every other FPS (fecking piece of shit?). I suspect it's just Microsoft fanboys trying to hype something decidely average.

Halo for me was awesome, and thanks to Bungie the series has continued to this day (ODST!) and has held strong especially when it comes to online multiplayer. I've spent HOURS on Live with Halo 2 and 3, and Halo CE on my Mac. Not my favorite series, but one of them. Overrated? Sure, and so is FFVII.
I'm marking out for Bungie.

I'm voting for the game in which I get to shoot a bunch of aliens, play as a guy in shiny green armor, and blow crap up. Halo is a fun game to play, especially multiplayer. Final Fantasy VII is just another FF game, and I dislike the series. I'm not voting for it. Oh, and it went over WoW. Screw FFVII.
Both of these were great and extremely popular games, so it comes down to which one I liked more. I will always prefer a shooter game to any other type of game, and Halo was one of the best and most popular. It was a game you could play by yourself or with your friends. Just an awesome game, even if some deem it "overrated" I'm definetly voting for it.

I am going to vote for Final Fantasy VII. I remember my dad burned that game (legally of course) and gave it to me and my brother and it was really fun to play. My brother and I would get pissed at each other over who got to play since we only had one controller and he always ended up winning

I've played Halo and I like it, but I never had as much fun playing it as I did for Final Fantasy VII. It has never been one of those games that I could play for hours and never get bored of it. I enjoyed playing Final Fantasy VII more than Halo and it's one of the few of the franchise that I like playing so I am going to vote for it.

FFVII, and it shouldn't even be this close, but we have a classic case of overrated FPS that everyone loves, vs. a masterpiece RPG that hardcore gamers now is the better game. FFVII revolutionized RPG's whether you like to admit it or not, they brought the RPG world to 3D like Super Mario 64 brought a whole gaming generation to 3D. It also introduced the use of beautiful FMV into video games, and without FFVII, we wouldn't have some of the great RPG's that are available to us now. Shit without FFVII, a game that has made it this far in Kingdom Hearts would probably never been made. What would happen if Halo wasn't created? Possible Xbox flop but I think it would have survived without Halo, it just may not have been as successful.
What I'm getting at is that FFVII is the benchmark on what most other RPG's, more specifically JRPG's (that's Japanese Role Playing Games if ya didn't know), is Halo a benchmark for all other shooters? I would hope that most would say no seeing as how Halo sort of dumbed down the FPS process and simplified it. FFVII brought new innovation and breathed life into the RPG genre, and thus it should move on.

Of course FF7 was a good game but I cannot tell you how many times I just got bored with it and gave up playing it for a while. I am a huge FF mark but I have to be very honest and say that I thought that FF7 was one of the poorer games that I played. I thought that X was better and 8 was certainly better.
Halo is a great game and I implore you to do the right thing and vote for it. Nothing has come close to it in terms of multiplayer action and fun.

This I've voted on the same way I voted in every other game in this round...which game would I prefer to play RIGHT NOW. Which game would I enjoy the most? Wiith that I am going to go with Halo, sorry guys but FFVII is a great game to play but once you've done it that's it. Halo has great replay value and it kept Microsoft in the console business.
Reason why I backed Halo is simply because it's the only one out of these two I could truly play. As I said before, I'm not a fan of FF and I have trouble getting into it. The only games I've played that are close are Pokémon and Kingdom Hearts, but the latter was a game I could play and enjoy unlike the rest of the FF series.
Halo is a decent FPS, I don't over-rate it but if it's a case of personal choice. I have to back Halo, while FF7 may be considered a great, not everyone's treasure is the same.

This vote is again going to come down to personal taste for me. I am not an FPS fan. I can appreciate the greatness that is Halo as I have watched my fair share of tourneys and play-throughs of the game, but I am sticking by the game that redefined RPGs.
Epic story, well thought out characters and graphics ahead of it's time...FFVII put Playstation on the map. FFVII FTW.
