Report: Tyson Kidd to get Major Gimmick Change?

Jack-Hammer did post a thread regarding a possible repackaging of Tyson Kidd some time ago. Again, this one is saying he could possibly be repackaged as a Masked Luchadore.

It is something I suggested before. Obviously, I don't see him getting beyond the MidCard in any case, as he is already around 33/34 years old and I can't see a Masked Luchadore character challenging for the Main title anytime soon, unless the character is way over and a believable challenger.

If this is done, I am looking forward to seeing how WWE carry out the change of gimmicks, as the fans of today won't let him off without regular Tyson chants regardless of the presence of a Mask.

I think this is a good thing for Kidd, as he hasn't done anything of note in WWE since his days in the Hart Dynasty, and has suffered some serious injuries in recent years. However, he is still a very talented, exciting performer and someone I have always enjoyed watching in the ring. With Mysterio basically being done, apart from Sin Cara there aren't any more masked luchadors in WWE so there is definitely an opportunity for Kidd.

WWE are smart enough to know that little kids love wearing wrestling masks, they sold alot of merchandise for Mysterio and surprisingly for Sin Cara too so if WWE see an opportunity to make some money off this gimmick then they wil definitely go for it. Kidd is certainly talented enough in the ring to pull it off, his in-ring style is perfect for it and his lack of mic skills won't really matter if he wrestles under a mask and doesn't need to speak that much.

This could be a good thing for both WWE and Tyson Kidd.

The new WHO. His father in law will be proud..........

Just kidding. The problem today with the gimmick changes are all of these reports and leaked info on the net, plus the TV exposure. The audiences will know you even if you are gonna wear a mask and every pound of your body hidden behind your attire.

Kidd is in nowhere land now so this new masked gimmick could be a good idea for him. Practically every idea of change is good for him now, he needs to do at least SOMETHING.

I wouldn't say this is a great thing for him. Not saying it won't work, but he's finally generating some momentum still as Tyson Kidd with his appearances down in NXT. If he can steal the show at NXT Takeover, I don't see the need to repackage himself. I think we'd all be kidding ourselves if we believe he'll suddenly launch himself into main event status regardless of what gimmick he goes with, but as Tyson Kidd, I still believe there is a place for him in the midcard on the main roster.

If this is something that turns out to be legit, I don't think it's something that can lower his standing at this point. It's not as if Kidd's had a whole helluva lot going on. As the report on the main page stated, Kidd hasn't necessarily been handled all that well over the years. At the same time, Kidd never came across as particularly charismatic or at all comfortable the few times he spoke on the mic or on commentary. Inside the ring, he was more than fine. In regard to everything else, he wasn't up to par in my eyes. Kidd's almost 34 years old, still a young man in life, but he's been signed to WWE for 8 years with nothing to show for it aside from a mostly forgettable tag team title run in 2010. So if they're gonna do something with him, it's getting to the point where they either need to do it, offer him some other position in the company like a trainer in NXT or just release him altogether.

The one problem with a luchadore gimmick is, as has already been pointed out, hardly anything is able to be kept secret anymore. People are gonna know it's Kidd under the mask, hence they know he's not Mexican. If they went with something along the lines of a masked high flyer and left out the luchadore theme, I think people will have an easier time with it. He can be all colorful without having to be actually called a luchadore, even if that's actually what he's supposed to be. The only way I can really see people suspending enough belief to buy Kidd, a well known Canadian wrestler, masquerading as a Mexican luchadore is if he can fluently speak Spanish and can speak in English with an authentic sounding accent. If he can't, I suggest dropping the Mexican aspect altogether because it'll just seem silly. Whether he can or can't and if WWE decides to go forward with the luchadore aspect, don't portray him as some sort of idiotic, outdated Hispanic stereotype. It'll just cause everybody to crap all over it and Kidd will be even worse off than he is now.

It's ironic that Tyson's greatest strength; the technical ability he possesses that makes him able to work with anyone and make them look good, has seemingly worked against him in his WWE tenure, labeling him as the perfect "opponent" for the up-and-comers, rather than having a featured program written for him.

It could also be ironic that if he does eventually get something significant thrown his way, it might be because of the favored status in the company of his wife.....if it can be said that any diva (outside of of AJ Punk) enjoys that type of power and influence in WWE.

Personally, I'd love to see Tyson Kidd get his chance; his ring work is so precise and entertaining that I've long felt he was deserving of something better than he's received.

Clearly we need a story behind this. I guess I could buy that Tyson Kidd is looking for an edge so he creates a luchador style for himself but I want more.

I want El Torito to bite him on the butt three times and for Kidd to get infected causing him to morph in to some type of masked Hispanic caricature. It can be an ongoing story that includes Los Matedores as El Toritos keepers, Natty Hart as the confused and caring wife, Justin Gabriel as the unfortunate friend, and Tito Santana as the wise old sage.

And then he can spend the rest of his career wallowing away under a mask on Main Event. The story writes itself.

It's a shame that WWE can't seem to do anything with a man of his great abilities other than....this. Usually I try to wait and see where things goes before judging, but considering the state of their other masked stars aka jobbers and/or regulated to comedy segments I don't see this turning out all that great.

But then again I guess this is better than nothing, which is pretty much where Kidd has been for years now. Hopefully he manages to find some success in this new role and if we're lucky they'll let him move on to bigger and better things.

As long as they don't make him The Blue Blazer and tell him to fly in from the ceiling, this has to be a positive for him. :)

It's a lame gimmick or its not being on television at all.

When I read this story and the reason behind the major gimmick change, I couldn't help but think about this: Wrestling and personality wise, Tyson Kidd is in the same boat as Bret was years ago. The reason I said that is because both were great wrestlers and one of the best on their rosters during their time, but yet both had a normal laid back but yet somewhat cool personality. Yeah Bret was over wit the fans. And Kid was over too with the exciting styles but time has changed. Back in the early 90's the then WWF was basely more about wrestling then entertaining and today WWE is the other way around. So yeah Tyson can wrestle, but yet WWE officials fail to provide him time and a gimmick to keep him engaged with the WWE Universe. Like someone said earlier, a new gimmick is a positive for him, but I don't think all of that is necessary. Why not let him score an upset over someone and let him build from there? But this Luchadore stuff will be interesting to see.

They did this about a year or two ago...they let Kidd upset Tensai while he was still being pushed (somewhat). Kidd also got a minor push as part of the Hart Dynasty. The problem is that no one receives an actual storyline outside of the top handful of players. I'm shocked right now that Los Matadores and 3MB are getting a storyline. However, you can almost be certain that when that feud comes to an end, both Los Matadores and 3MB will be forgotten again. There used to be storyline feuds all the time for people and folks would go from one feud to the next. Kidd, however, is an example of what happens when you just let guys stagnate. There's no sense of progression, and no reason to care or cheer for them.

I can imagine the meeting about this...

"Tyson, we're gonna repackage you, there's an old gimmick we've got lying around that we thing is perfect for you...The Blue Bla.... oh wait..."

Now not to diss anyone but I highly doubt they're gonna ask ANOTHER Hart to mask up cos they got nothing to do... At best it's bad taste and at worse gonna really piss Martha and Bret off... Just when things are at the point of smoothed over enough that we might see Owen in the HOF.

The idea itself isn't terrible.. he could do something else, but I just can't see them wanting to "go there" with the intevitable comparisons to Owen.

Some other kind of gimmick character works, but a Luchardor/Blazer type wouldn't... if they need a new Luchador (guessing Los Matadores/Torito are coming to an end) then let Gabriel do it...

They could have put a mask back on Sami Zayn and called him up to the main roster.

They should make Kidd and Zayn a tag team under the masks. The tag division could use another team and they're both Canadian so they could work with that I'm sure.

Whatever they do with Kidd I just want him on my television on a regular basis. I don't ever see him breaking out of the mid card but I hope they don't let him waste away for the rest of his career.

I mentioned this in the comments on the front page, but Tyson Kidd isn't being not pushed because of mismanagement... Its because he's ultra bland personality wise...but the answer to bland personality wrestlers is let them be acrobats behind a mask. This can't hurt his chances...

Don't forget the stupid haircut.

It's pretty tough to take this seriously:

Tyson Kidd tags up with Samuray del Sol would be GODLIKE. This will put over both guys due to their nature. The problem of the group is like Los Madators. The don't have enough wrestlers with that style for the people to pay attention to it.

I have been saying this for years for Bourne. He would be 100% more over under a hood with a gimmick instead of generic little white guy. I have a bad feeling Sami Zayn will fall into the same category when he is called up.

Tyson Kidd as already been posted,is 34 years old! Not a old man by any stretch but in terms of his tenure in WWE,and really accomplishing nothing I dont know if a gimmick change would help.. A really unfortunate situation, tyson is a gifted performer and can well hold his own on the mic and in-ring ability..

A masked Luchadore i just dont see it happening.. For one thing,he is not mexican and the fans alike would immediately know its Tyson Kidd under the mask.. Tyson Kidd whole tenure has been wasted in the WWE and its a shame! He is one talented individual

I think it is a other dumb idea from wwe. They are doing it so they can sell merch. How are they going to push him that they can't do now? If they actually tried to push him now, they might be surprised how over he could be but instead they will give him a mask and push him and then they have another mask to sell to the kids like Mysterio's. It isn't about giving him an opportunity, it is a about replacing Mysterio and selling product.

Well, since I'm pretty sure he legitimately tried to knock out Adrian Neville, and scored a tapout with his rough sleeperhold, and all of the material on NXT TakeOver Fallout, I'd be surprised if the WWE didn't elaborate on the "guy near the end of his run, who lost his last shot at glory, so now he's losing his cool and falling apart" storyline. It could be pretty cool, and could re-legitimize Kidd as a ruthless competitor. During Takeover, I thought he was much more deserving of a "viper" nickname than Randy Orton. Did you see how many times he kicked Neville in the head when Neville was putting a hold on him? He's like a surgeon of asskicking doom.

It was so well improvised, and ruthless that there's a heavy suspicion that he tried to legitimately win and ignore the booking. There was a LOT of tension near the end of the Nattie/Flair match, and from the way they were being stubborn about those submissions at the end, Natalya was trying to stick it to Ric, and she and Tyson were obviously furious with the booking. Tyson went out like Max Payne against the machine, and tried to choke it out, and made Neville tap out after all of those head kicks. Tyson Kidd should be your NXT Champion.

I'm so down for whatever is coming down the pike, and I hope that these actions are completely scripted and won't lead to a FE for the canadians. Last night, from when Paige said it would be memorable, holy shit it was. I hope this leads to a serious Tyson Kidd ruthless villain run.

I don't see this leading to a Lucha style thing at all. Masked evil wrestler maybe. But lucha? Come on.

First off, r2d2ott, you sound like somebody who works for WWE in a non-creative capacity.

Tyson & Nattie are both fed up, I think. Nattie definitely has a right to be, and Tyson has just had bad luck.

Simple way for this to work. Tyson tells Nattie that Tyson Kidd is seen as #2 in their marriage so he's go to find a new identity and BAM! He comes out under a mask. Problem solved.
