Report On Roman Reigns & The Wyatt Family

As everyone has no doubt noticed, the first real cracks in the cohesiveness of The Shield came about this past Monday. Dean Ambrose made an off handed comment about being the only champion in The Shield that earned him a glare of discontent from Roman Reigns. According to F4WOnline.com, a babyface turn is expected to happen for Roman Reigns but it'll be a pretty slow turn. It's expected to happen, but not for several months. In the long term, the idea is to split reigns off from The Shield as a big babyface.

As for the Wyatt Family, they're expected to be the new six man main event unit once The Shield ultimately breaks apart. The upcoming feud that looks to be featuring the Family against CM Punk and Daniel Bryan, possibly others, is reported to be the first step in that direction.

All Shield members have played their roles very well and bring something different to the table. Reigns has played the mostly silent muscle of the group but he does well when he does speak. I'm curious to see if he has more to offer in terms of mic work. He's entertaining in the ring, he has that brawler/athletic powerhouse thing that sort of reminds me of Sheamus. Reigns definitely has a great look and physical presence, bearing a strong physical resemblance to The Rock.

As for the Wyatt Family, it could be interesting though I'm sort of on the fence. One reason why The Shield has worked out so well has been because they've all been able to contribute to the group in different ways with different strengths and has been consistently booked to look strong against the top players on the WWE roster. The Wyatt Family is centered around Bray Wyatt as the charismatic, unquestioned leader while Harper & Rowan are his silent, 300+ pound enforcers. I'm not sure that WWE can really book Wyatt, Harper & Rowan to be as dominant, unless the roles of Harper & Rowan are expanded to include mic work and if they're able to show some charisma of their own.

It's too bad that they are possibly thinking of breaking up the Shield. Tons of fun matches they have produced in the past year. I am going to miss that if it does happens.

Out of the three, one has to turn face and I would say Reigns is a good choice. While all three are probably better suited to being heel and Reigns actually needs to get some time on the mic or he will fail as a face. Generally, it is harder than being a heel and just turning him against Ambrose/Rollins won't be sufficient.

I'm not convinced about the Wyatt family effectively taking the spot of The Shield. The beauty of The Shield was that all three are very talented and shared the time in the ring and on the mic. Moreover, they all have similar potential and are probably future world champs. The Wyatt family is completely different. I really don't rate Harper or Rowan and if they were to start wrestling the 6-man tag-matches it would be a bad move. Wyatt is the stand-out guy and Harper/Rowan should be used to support him which is different from how The Shield were booked.

I could see Reigns going on a Batista-style run after he left Evolution. To really explode he needs a foil, the way Batista had Trips. Ambrose will get a huge push out of this too I think, he'll get so arrogant that everyone can't wait for Reigns to shut him up.

This is what they should have done with Ted DiBiase breaking away from Legacy too - the crowd was white hot for him as the first signs of dissent appeared. WWE monumentally cocked that one up.

I worry where this leaves Seth Rollins, who is probably the most talented of the 3 in the ring and sells brilliantly.

The Shield have put on great match after great match and I find it annoying that after not even a year as a group (debuted at Survivor Series) they are breaking up. I think they are the best 3 man team for both level of wins and quality of matches. They have put on great matches that almost always steal the show so I will miss the unit but glad to see Reigns will get a big push. Ambrose will be successful however this break happens but Rollins need to turn face aswell and team with Reigns for a bit to help him.

I don't think the Wyatt's have a good enough balance as the Shield because in 6 man tags Rollins or Ambrose could be isolated by the other team but I cant see any of the Wyatt's playing this role. 3 powerhouse styles does not work as a team in terms of quality of matches and I think as they have one of the hardest acts to follow in the Shield they are destined for failure

Hopefully they can wait till at least the Royal Rumble before splitting them up, then have a triple threat at Wrestlemania for the U.S title. This is where you can build Roman as the face and start a chase for the title.

I love the Wyatt Family gimmick and I can see it taking Bray very far. He will eventually lose Harper and Rowan so it's hard to say what will happen to those two once that happens. I do see some potential in Harper, more than I see in Rowan anyway

I think Luke Harper needs to be given the mic. I know he's supposed to be a "follower" of Bray Wyatt, but he spoke in the vignettes before they appeared. He has the look and moves of a powerhouse. He also came across very well in those vignettes. Maybe a feud with the Shield will allow Harper and Rowan to build stand alone characters out of the Wyatt family. As for Roman Reigns he just screams heel to me. With all of the times he's been pinned in the losses Seth Rollins would be the guy who gets turned on by the other 2, IMO. Seth can talk and he has the best move-set of the Shield members. All in all I think WWE would be making a mistake without some sort of feud erupting between the Shield and Wyatt's.

I'm ok with them breaking up so long as they carry out a good break up feud. I do really hope that WWE can see how much better wrestling is when you have factions & groups, from the Horseman, the Freebirds, to the Hart Foundation, DX, Nation of Domination, to the Shield now. I wouldn't mind if WWE tried to make the Shield a bigger group then let Reigns leave the group while leaving a 3 or 4 man Shield group together.

Sure, but it's inevitable. Honestly, management has booked them well, which caused them to last this long. All "enforcer" groups have a limited shelf life because there's only so much time the fans will be interested in a group that uses superior numbers to gang up on people. It's great at first......interesting after a while.....and ultimately becomes the same soup warmed over.

When I first saw the Shield, I remember thinking: "Great.....Nexus all over again."......and I'm happy to say that view was wrong, largely because Creative found things for the group to do other than simple attacks. They gave them minor title belts to wear, let them hold the titles for awhile, but not too long.....and used Shield as a guard service for the McMahon/Levesque kingdom. All this variety kept them relevant.

The whole thing was well done, but now it's getting to be break-up time. Which one (or two) will go good?....It doesn't really matter. At present, I can't see any of them as faces, but then I remember I once felt that way about Sheamus, too.

Roman should turn face but he needs to be a loner, dean and seth should stay a team until the feud is over that way roman will look strong that 2 guys have to keep him down, after the feud is over between them split them all up, send seth to the smackdown mid card level. roman to feud with a big bad guy, and then let dean ambrose take a different approach keep him off tv for along time until he returns and wins the mitb for the whc, then he cashes in and wins the whc and feuds with roman reigns again.

I agree with you soooo much. Rollins has been a face before and has a stronger connection with the fans. I'm not saying Reigns can't be face, it just seems like it might be more work. Work I'm not confident that the WWE writing staff can pull off.

As for Harper, watch NXT. He has an ongoing feud with Kassius Ohno and just dropped a solid solo promo on the last episode.
