Regarding Eugene's Return

Klown_Karnage

Slapstick Heavyweight Champion
I've seen many comments on this subject, but have yet to see a thread devoted to it, maybe because many would think its too soon to say whether Eugene's return to the WWE is just a fluke used to get the Miz back on Raw or whether he's actually back. Folks, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't re-introduce him if they were planning to bury him immediately. Wouldn't be worth the effort of getting him there in the first place. He's back.

Now, I get from what I've read that the vast majority do not like the Eugene gimmick. To some extent, I can understand the objections. His child-like level of mental and emotional development could be seen as derogatory to others with difficulties of a similar nature, especially given how often Eugene is taken advantage of by others. In the attitude era, nobody really seemed bothered about being controversial, so that issue was largely ignored. Now, in these PC times, the WWE is being far more careful. However, I think this could also be used to draw attention to the difficulties and limitations such a person would face in these situations and (as cheesy as this may sound) be rather inspirational as he finds ways to overcome these difficulties.

I also think there's a wealth of unexplored potential to this character. I'll explain: I'm certain people have at least heard of "savant-ism", I believe a specialized form of autism which can limit the emotional and mental development of a person in most areas, yet in one or two areas the same person is incredibly gifted and talented far beyond normal levels. Why not add this level of complexity to the Eugene character, making him a sort of wrestling savant? That would explain his child-like mindset as well as his ability to unexpectedly come out picture-perfect in using other wrestlers' signature moves. One could say about the ease with which the Miz beat him on Raw that Eugene had simply never fought him before, but now that he has once, he'll be able to take the Miz down.

I know that, even with this in mind, Eugene's child-like nature will mean he'll get taken advantage of by certain heels who wish to exploit him, that much is inevitable, but in the course of a storyline if Eugene discovers he's being used it could lead to his first (so far as I know) heel turn in which he becomes an angry, spiteful, tantrum-throwing little boy in the body of a very strong and very talented-in-terms-of-violence man. You couldn't reason with such a person on an adult level, making it difficult for anyone to reach him. It could work and it could be an intriguing story.

I don't know if the WWE team would ever do this, but I'd like to see it tried. I also hope that this doesn't simply turn into an "I hate Eugene" thread, but I do want to know what others think of this.

I've always been a fan of Eugene, with the exception of about a couple months. But, with that being said, I must say that during the later months of Eugene's WWE career, he was not utilized very well. Eugene did re-sign with WWE, but I am predicting that if Eugene is assigned to the Raw brand, he will have little to no success whatsoever.

Smackdown is the one and only place that Eugene belongs. Sure, if Eugene is a full-time wrestler, he probably won't win any titles, but a few wins here and there will be fine. Or even if he's shown on a regular basis, that would be a plus.

I like Eugene and the gimmick. I want to see him go far in WWE this time around. I just hope that he won't be wasted like he was in his first stint.

Nick Dinsmore actually re-signed with WWE weeks ago. The Eugene gimmick more than likely isn't staying long term. He was brought in to help tutor new talent in the ring not to be an on-air character. They used him on Raw as Eugene to throw people off in the contract match. People thought Eugene was gonna win the contract because he was a former star and Calgary Kid was there to get beat and draw more heat on Slaughter from the crowd. When Kid won and took off the mask it was Miz. Eugene's one night purpose was to put over Miz he will go back to tutoring talent now.

I am very certain Eugene did not come back to become a full-time wrestler, but to give "The Calvary Kid" The Miz a spot back on the RAW roster. He was just used not only to demonstrate that he has been signed back with the company but to give The Miz somebody to fight against who is somewhat legit in defeating him for the contract.

I thought I read somewhere on the WrestleZone news page that the signing of Nick Dunsmore was to keep him as a trainer for the developmental area. I tell you, that was a great pick up for a trainer concerning somebody teaching the superstars of tomorrow how to successfully pull off a gimmick/personality & keep that happening through the ring. I don't knoe about anyone else, the gimmick may have pushed the envelope but Nick pulled the Eugene character with perfection.

I am one to put forward an idea for getting Eugene back into the wrestling scene, but as cool_guy_12 said... SmackDown is the only formidable brand that he could perform on if he were to pushed to moon with an overhaul of his character as you suggested Klown_Karnage. However, for kiddie purposes... RAW seems suitable if you keep him as a comedic jobber of sorts. Great way to give him exposure, wont hurt him due to his gimmick. Maybe if they bring back that superhero gimmick they can team up with The Hurricane? :lmao:

like most people said he probably wont be a wrestler on tv. but i do like the idea of making his character more dynamic. it deffinatelly would have worked

I can see him jobbing out more under his real name than as Eugene. Besides, Dinsmore didn't look like he was in phenomenal ring shape anyway, but even so, he's still a great talent.

If he does retrun with his Eugene gimmick, I love the idea of making him be savant. I've heard Dinsmore is actually a pretty talented wrestler when allowed to be so, so if he can wrestle why not do that? That's a very original gimmick, and the only thing I disliked about Eugene was the fact he was to restrained in ring by his gimmick. That could be a great idea, provided he does indeed return full time.

Remember the match with Calgary Kid was for a Raw contract, further hinting that Eugene won't be coming back. They didn't even air his intro live, they just came on and he was already in the ring. Others are right when they say Eugene was simply used as a vessel to put Miz back on Raw, a move that many didn't see coming.

Eugene was hired back to be a trainer. He may be used sparingly for the occasional comedy spot but he will most likely not return to TV full time. But for the record, I was also a fan of Eugene, especially during his initial push. There was a time when he was nearly the most over babyface on Raw.

This is a very well thought out idea. I'm not so sure he wont be used on tv, they could always use a recognizable face to help put some people over. This idea though, to make the Eugene gimmick a bit more than just a comedy skit, would definitely be a higher form of entertainment, but I don't think something like that will attract the attention of the casual wrestling viewers. It would be great on a intellectual level, but lets face it, do you really have high standards for the intelligence of the bulk of wrestling fans? I'm not trying to insult anybody, but you know it's true.

I don't see him coming back full time. Most of his time will probably be spent training/coaching the fresh talent coming through. That being said he can still make occasional appearances to help put someone over but in terms of coming back to TV full time I just don't see it. He won't be entering any feuds or anything, he'll be a backstage guy, helping the younger guys.

wow Eugene gets released after 1 match, Nick Dinsmore has alot of talent and they didnt let him show it with that stupid gimmick, hopefully he can go to TNA with a different character.

He didn't get released after one match, he had been working house shows for the last 3 weeks.

But yeah, still seems a bit of a waste to me.

Ugh.

I was looking forward to seeing Eugene back regularly VERY MUCH. This isn't a dumb or a smart move in my opinion...I have no idea why they would bring him back just to release him so quickly...but as a pure mark...I am very disappointed in this. I've been loving the comedy characters lately, and I wish WWE had a more solid base of them on the undercard.

Well according to the main page Eugene was released, not Dinsmore. That's good, as Dinsmore can certainly work a very good match when he needs to. He's someone they could bring in for a quick thing if they're short handed and he'll work wonders in FCW. The guy is very talented and there was absolutely nowhere to go with the Eugene character at all, so I like this move. It makes sense to me to have him changed around, as he's a valuable asset, but Eugene isn't.

WWE really has no idea what they want. I hope it is true that WWE released the Eugene gimmick and not Nick Dinsmore. That can either mean that he will be used backstage and help train others or he will return as a superstar, without his Eugene gimmick. I prefer to see him return as a superstar other than Eugene. This way he would be able to show his ring skills and get a push.

IMO they need to drop the whole Eugene gimmick, if they want to bring Nick back to the roster full time maybe utilise him on ECW, and not on one of the bigger brands, my issue was i felt that due to the over stacked rosters he wasn't able to shine the way he did in the developmental roster.

but that is a big if, the fact is as Falkon already stated Eugene is not being braught back on the roster full time, more of just someone on development who can help train wrestlers in the basics, I know they have Billy Kidman on the training side but no one who actually knows the developmental process better then Nick Dinsmore, he is one of those wrestlers who should of debuted based on talent, not a wacky gimmick, the gimmick altogether let his performance slip and basically limited his in ring work.

Check out his matches in OVW and you'll see that Nick is one of the best wrestlers to come from that terretory (exception of brent albright of course)that was never eve utilised in the proper manner and i do hope he gets another crack at the big time before all is said and done.

I never thought the Eugene character benefited anyone in WWE. It certainly didn't help Nick Dinsmore. I feel that gimmick was as bad as the Gobbeldy Gooker or the Red Rooster. Nick Dinsmore should be a good asset to train the talent in FCW. I just think even if WWE brought him back on Smackdown or ECW as himself, people wont take him seriously. With or without the Eugene gimmick. I find the gimmick pretty ridiculous and insulting to people who are really mentally handicapped if you ask me.

I dont know why they even decided to bring him back. I mean nobody cares about him and the WWE has a black list full of jobbers just begging to be on the card. Maybe Vince was drunk when he hired this guy. Anyway good riddance.

This really should of never happened the first time, let alone again.

At least with Masters he can be used in the Middle card and hes a tough guy to beat. But Eugene was never a great gimmick, and its even worse the second time around. I truely feel sorry for Nick Dinsmore. I understand his passion for the business and being in the biggest Sports Entertainment business in the world, but you gotta have some self respect and say no at some point.

The only good that could come of him being back is the possible return of his "Uncle" Eric Bischoff.
