Regal to never wrestle again?

The Daily newspaper featured in the UK, The Sun, had a very emotional interview with William Regal last week. In the interview it went in depth on fully describing his illness. The major shock was when Regal was told he needed a heart transplant and that he could never wrestle again.

I hope to high heaven it isn't serious. I'm well aware, as many are, about Regal's substance abuse issues and how he kicked them years back. If this is true, then it sucks big time. Even in the twilight of his career, Regal is still one of the most crisp technical, European-style grapplers in the business. He's a little slower these days, but he can do moves John Cena can't even spell.

I think what they mean is that this is something he was told a while back when he was out for so long with his illness. He came back to wrestling since then knowing that, I guess. As far as "hoping to high heaven that it isn't serious"? Well, i'd call needing a heart transplant pretty damn serious. He does know though I guess.....and I guess he just did whatever he had to do to keep wrestling. This news story in particular doesn't say much about it in terms of details but i'm willing to bet that this run that Regal's on could very well be his "last hurrah" so to speak. He'll make a hell of a trainer though.....they need some of that down in OVW for those guys down there.

I agree if he currently had a serious heart problem there's now way they would have let him compete at the recent Smackdown taping. Despite the fact it was in the U.K.

I totally agree with Hewie... though i never saw the Bulldog wrestle, william was an AMAZING HEAL from his redebut in 2000 and his amazing grapling abilities. If this is his "last hurrah", then he will SURELY be missed and should be a trainer in OVW(credit to whoever wrote that)

Regal is most definately one of the best technical wrestlers of the last 20 years by far.

Calm down, the way the article posted on various sites reads it sounds like his heart condition is recent and he just now found out he can't wrestle anymore. So people who have no prior knowledge of his heart condition (myself included) will take the article to mean that he is done wrestling.

Damn, I feel sorry for the man. Regal is such a great person inside and outside the ring with a great heart.

This really is a shame, it looks like once again a truly great english wrestler is going to go out without a title reign
