Let me start by saying they should be winning matches for themselves more often. But here is why that match worked:

Kofi and Cena are about Legacy on the card. Legacy snuck in last week and cost Cena and Kofi their chance at a WWE Title match. Cena and Kofi are pissed, and kayfabe better than Legacy and beat them in a competitive match to get revenge.
