Randy Orton's Breaking Point Promo

Барбоса

doesn't know REAL wrestling...
My highlight of Breaking Point was undoubtedly Orton's promo with Josh Matthews. It demonstrated the next evolution of hiss character from the sociopathic Viper to an all out psychopath. Such a character works well with Orton's well-recognised monotone voice. I found myself uncomfortable watching it, but in the right way which is a testament to Orton's much improved acting.

He actually had me believing that he was going to do something horrifying to retain his title. When Randy had Cena handcuffed to the top of the ring post, I half-expected him to reach into the crowd and start slaughtering innocents in order to get Cena to quit.

I was bored by it. I'm curious to find out when intresting charismatic heels were replaced by boring monotone heels. And at what point that people accepted them to be good.

Randy Orton looks like he's holding in a fart, Chris Jericho talks like he's trying to blame the one that got away on somebody else.

I agree with you Jake for the most part. Both Jericho and Orton have let it slip in the past 4-6 months. A lot of their promos have lacked direction and point at times. Jericho has played the "hypocrite" card constantly for over a year and Orton has been the brooding sociopath with nothing much to say for most of the year.

However, last night I think we saw something different in Orton. For me, he sold the psychopathic tendencies a bit more. This promo, his subsequent defeat and Rhodes and DiBiase's win over DX should be used to begin the split of Legacy. Orton should become increasingly unstable regarding his inability to defeat Cena with neither Rhodes or DiBiase able to control him. He could start punting random people for no reason or give Lillian Garcia the RKO.

I have HATED the Orton character for the past six months, but I did like the evolution it took last night. It seemed like he finally committed to the psychopath character instead of just walking and talking slowly. I still cannot stand his in-ring selling of moves and his ridiculous facial expressions, but he made a big improvement last night.

I have to say, recent Orton promo's have been down the toilet & lacking in meaning behind them. What Orton was able to accomplish at the PPV with Josh Matthews actually had people believing that he is capable of torturing other human beings without remorse, is a controlled & dangerous psychopathic character whom can strike you with whatever he feels like, hence the "Viper" name.

What he said in that promo was heavily backed up by his actions in the ring during the I Quit match especially when Orton was delivering those cane shots to Cena's ribs. It made everyone think of how sadistic & menical this man really is... truly one of the better promo's Orton has had. However, I do believe a lot of the promo's he has had is alongside other people not including the interviewer for the show.

I'm glad you started this topic peadarbarbosa, because I thought the same thing while watching it last night, but I just couldn't put my finger on it. Orton's work last night was consistent and convincing.

On a side note, I thought the camera angle while Cena had the STF locked was great. Orton is just inches away from grabbing the keys to "unlock" the hold, but the pain was too much.

I Honestly thought Randy Orton's promo was excellent last night he had alot of demonic things to say and for me beening an old school wrestling fan it worked for me it remined me of something they would have done in the Addititude Era and I honestly thought Randy Orton was going to RKO or Punt Kick Josh Matthews for distrubing him befor his match with John Cena if there was an award for acting in wrestling at a award show Orton would have won last night hands down.

Orton was just scary last night. I'm sitting there watching, and I couldn't help but feel somewhat uncomfortable yet I believed what he was saying. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he would be the one to break up Legacy or attack them or anyone else on the Raw roster. Just start hitting the RKO and then punting the hell out of 'em afterwards. I mean after hearing him last night, honestly what stopped him from attacking a "fan" or someone else in the locker room after his loss. Looking forward to seeing the "Viper" strike again.

I agree with the fact that Orton's promo was good, overall the show was good last night... as for Orton punting Legacy members: not so much... yes their headed towards the split as i believe DiBiase Jr will be having a face turn due to the marine II... but no punting: as we've seen in the past year= Ortons punts lead to ppl being gone for weeks to months... look for some heavy RKOs or the second rope ddt

Orton's promo was awsome last night i'll hand it to him but he's gonna invoke his rematch close ASAP knowing him but i can't wait to see legacy break up the only question is who is gonna be responsible for breaking up Legacy

I loved the look Orton had on last weeks Raw after he dropped Cena. I honestly dont see where the WWE is going with this. They put Legacy over then have Orton lose the belt. Where are they going with this? How can Orton possibly ask for a rematch after being tapped out it makes no sense. I am starting to think they might try Orton as a face again and build Legacy as the heels. Something along the lines of them deciding their better and jumping him.

He doesn't have to ask for one, it'd be in his contract that he gets one. As for Legacy, they beat DX cleanly and at least Ted's due for a face turn in the next few months. I wouldn't be surprised if both turn face and they are the ones to beat Big Show/Jericho. Orton's character is very much a coward unless he has an advantage. He won't attack someone unless he has back up, and last night when Cena handcuffed himself to Orton, Orton was scared shitless. If they want Orton to be legit, they need to watch themselves. Orton gave up really quickly and looked very weak without Legacy.

You got me there I guess a champ would have a rematch clause. Still its hard to get excited for him now or care about the feud when Cena flat out tapped him no questions asked. I really figured they would finish this match Stone Cold style where instead of quitting the guy passes out. Turning Orton into a coward suddenly is stupid. Yea I have always seen him as a guy who likes an advantage but at the same time a coward wouldnt kick McMahon in the head or attack Stephanie while HHH was forced to watch. I think the psycho badass charachter that cant control his temper that they were building before Wrestlemania would be a huge face charachter though. Anyway I think they wrecked this angle. Orton vs Cena has always been boring but now that Cena is champ, tapped Orton out with ease, and Legacy no longer needs his help, well to me it just makes Orton hard to watch I mean whats his purpose?

Orton is gonna do his normal bitching and complaing and blame Legacy for his loss cuz as we all know Orton does nothing wrong or he thinks he doesn't but i love his chracter he's one of my fave heels on the Raw roster

It wasn't bad. Wasn't great either, but wasn't bad. I liked how calm he was, better than his usual cliched heel sneer that he gives to everything he says. I like the fact that they seem to be making an attempt to make Orton look legitimately mentally unstable, and not just like a typical heel.

Decent. Nothing spectacular. Better than his normal shtick though.

He's been a coward since he formed Legacy and took on the viper character. He strikes those that are defenseless or gang attacks them. All of his wins are after interference and he'll let Legacy fight and he'll run up the ramp unless they have the numbers or upper hand. As soon as they start losing, he hightails it out of the ring. He's played the part of a coward for several months now. An unstable, crazy, cowardly heel.

you he is no coward ORTON has more balls than any of you CENA is the coward he did one fucking mistake he should've left the handcuffs on him or put CENA on his own submission move would ve been sweet! It was scheduled that ORTON would WIN and UNDERTAKER to win over CMPUNK well McMoron is g*y we all know it he wants his homoboy boytoy to have the title a couple of quickies and oral pleasures McMahon is relieved thats what the BOSS wants he gets
If Perhaps ORTON put the submission move on CENA would ve been sweet but expect him to get it back he has many tricks up his sleeve how else did he get it back from BATISTA! Seriously McMahon is deaf as well we all despise and hate this f*g
he has only 5 moves and cannot wrestle Orton is more of a technical wrestler than him
Geeez when deep penetration x lost many were glad and chanted LEGACY after screwing Bret Hart it will haunt them for the rest of their lives ahahahhahahaah
How many of you would prefer Undertaker to go up against CENA and ORTON vs PUNK
lets say this switched it I d be more ecstatic

This may be the worst thing ever written about anything, anywhere ever.

On to my actual point, I thought that Orton's promo at BreakingPoint was the best one I've ever seen him do, but that is akin to saying that the dog shit I stood in was the best turd I'd ever stood in, faint praise indeed.

Jericho has said himself that he thought this character only had 6 months of life in it, and he was right, it's getting boring. Orton'scharacter is basically the same, except it is about 4 years old now, and is absolutely excruciatingly boring. However, it is still getting a wide scale reaction, so it will continue.

Jericho should talk he's been doing the same gimmick for over a year he's the stale one Jericho should listen to his tired character and stop being a "hypocrite".

The same for four years ugh that's not true not even close how can you be so naive ? Orton four years ago was still in his "Legend Killer" gimmick, now he's the Viper that's one inconsistency with your weak argument.

He was a glorified jobber in 2005 he had a great vastly underrated feud with the Undertaker, but other than that he was going nowhere he tweaked his gimmick became above average on the mic and mastered in ring psychology.

Orton doesn't need the title to be legit he can just be a pyschopath heel I'm sick of every heel being a monotone heel a coward or both Orton's character can be refreshing if done right.

I was talking about Jericho's own gimmick. So congrats for proving mypoint.

The legend killer gimmick was exactly the same ass the current one. A boring monotonous wrestler who wears down his opponents by beating down their associates or them. The only difference is in what Michael Cole calls him.

He was a glorified jobber in 2005 he had a great vastly underrated feud with the Undertaker, but other than that he was going nowhere he tweaked his gimmick became above average on the mic and mastered in ring psychology.

Orton had the feud with Undertaker, and a main event match against Triple H in 2005, that's not exactly that good.

Orton doesn't need the title to be legit he can just be a pyschopath heel I'm sick of every heel being a monotone heel a coward or both Orton's character can be refreshing if done right.

Orton is both of those things. He quit immediately following Cena's attack, making him a coward and he is more monotone than a teenage metal head.

Who were his associates as the Legend Killer post evolution did he punt people as the Legend Killer or the viper ?

There's really nowhere for me to go with this we will just agree to disagree I say Orton is the best heel today you say he sucks, The funny thing is Orton's been the WWE champion for the longest time out of anybody this year.

He gets his work constantly praised by the WWE and wrestling writers, he has been on a mega push while still not reaching his prime at the extremely young age of 29.

The people that know what they are doing agree with me so I'll find solace in that who has a opinion that matters and agrees with you, you'll be hard pressed to find someone that doesn't exist.

I don't think he meant Orton had associates. He meant that Orton does the same thing now as he did when he was the Legend Killer - attack people closest to his opponent (Cena's Dad --- Triple H's wife).

And he punted people as both gimmicks

A few when he was the LK -
RVD
Dusty Rhodes
Cena's Pops
Michaels
Sgt. Slaughter

A few as the Viper -
Vince McMahon
Shane McMahon
Batista
Triple H

Yeah but it wasn't known as the "punt" back then it was just a kick and not taken seriously, Orton's punt is the only move in the WWE that makes fans believe if it lands the unlucky soul is out for a long time.

It's nitpicking but just watch a Orton LK promo and a Orton Viper promo and then you'll see how he has changed.... for the better.
